  1. Need to know if wall behind beds are made of steel even if covered by wallpaper. I need to know what kind of hook will attach magnet or command type to hold an IV bag. Maybe someone can ask onboard. Cabin 6630. 2 have responded that are steel. But RCCL special needs department says otherwise. I do find that they do give some incorrect info and learn things are different onboard.

If someone could get a take notice or get confirmation about this onboard would be ever in your debt. Would a strong magnetic hook stick to wall behind the beds? Or if a smooth surface, would a strong command type hook?

Not sailing till May 13th but need to clarify to prepare.

  2. OK. I was excited to be told that walls behind the beds on the Allure are steel, so magnet hooks will work. Now have just spoken to special needs department at RCCL and they said even after checked further that walls are covered with some kind of textured wallpaper type material. When I asked aren't they metal underneath the paper they cannot confirm. Without a confirmation must bring an IV pole on our flight. I refuse to rent one for $95. Already renting a scooter there and may get onboard and find walls are steel and magnets work. If anyone can clarify please do.

  3. Hooray! Special Needs Group now has a kiosk near security at RCCL Pier so can pick up my reserved scooter there rather than in my stateroom. Wheelchair assist at curb. Then get scooter at kiosk. Into HC line and wheel myself on ship rather than being stuck where they would deposit me while waiting to be able to get scooter from my cabin ( they only guarantee scooter in cabins by 2pm). Makes much better use of time, less stress, can learn our way around ship. Hopefully I can set earlier meeting with person on ship is dealing with our special dietary needs. No matter how much advance prep work I do on land it always seems much of that info has not been communicated to the actual ship. Till that is taken care of, I cannot relax. BTW Special Needs Group(used to be Special Needs at Sea) rents on FCFS basis scooters and wheelchairs the day of to those who decide they need one at the kiosk. If you need I would reserve in advance though. I cannot get around on a smaller ship w/o one. I would never get around the Allure w/o. I would definitely spend entire cruise in the cabin Thank you to all who commented. It helped me figure out a solution.

  4. Wheel chair service at the pier and smaller scooter for me in waiting in my room. Hope they let me get that as soon as possible. Worried about being trapped where they deposit me before my husband can trek to room to get my scooter. Considering having a scooter delivered to hotel so I will have it for embarkation. Then have to find an uber that can carry it to port.

  5. Can someone tell me what the wall behind the bed in cabins on sixth level are made from? Ours is Accessible cabin 6630. I am on IVs and need to see if and what kind of hook could be attached to the wall behind the bed so I can avoid bringing an IV pole. If wall is metallic a magnetic hook will work, if a very smooth finish command hooks will work. If is it a wall covering or a slightly a textured finish, command hooks will not work and I will have to find another option. Often hotels will tell me that a wall is painted smooth and I get there and is slightly textured so keep falling and have to hook to a picture or something. I find it nice to bring extra hooks for convenience on cruises too. Thank you.:D

  6. I've never been to a land based resort either but we can never go to any resturant without first checking out the menu. Calling ahead to find out more about the ingredients and find what ingredients the restaurant has to make custom adjustments. For those with severe medical dietary restrictions and reactions this is a way of life. One example, in the middle of the ocean if every salad dressing has soy in it you cannot run out to buy one you can eat or bring one from home since cannot bring liquids on a flight. It is much easier on the cruise line if I ask about these things ahead of time so I can ask about ingredients and not have to be so demanding once onboard. I spend most of my energy during a cruise seeing that my husband can eat safely but still enjoy himself. He needs a vacation. He spends so much time and energy seeing to my health issues at home. It is the least I can do to pay him back.

  7. Hi. I'm new to RCCL. Old to Celebrity, Norwegian,Holland America and Carnival. Been a while though. Going on this trip with my spouse, sons fam including 4 of my 8 grandchildren. This is a major item on my bucket list after the last 2 years of severe health challenges. I've always cruised with challenges: just more complicated now. Planning makes less stressful. I Need a few specifics about our Accessible Oceanview Balcony Cabin on Allure- 6630. Anyone familiar with either this cabin/or Allure Accessible Cabins as a whole? I Appreciate any help! I am traveling with a scooter and bunch of med paraphernalia including daily IVs. Helpful to hear from others before I get too involved with the special needs dept. (I know that sometimes their answers are incorrect).

1.I need to either attach a Command Hook on the wall behind the bed to hang my IV, bring an IV pole, or hang IVs from a picture or lamp etc that might be behind the bed high enough. IV poles are large and heavy to fly in, and have not found a way to rent one yet. So the Command Hook option is preferable if it works. What is the wall behind the bed made of? Is a flat smooth paint finish, a textured paint finish, a vinyl or textured wallpaper? I need a smooth finish for a Command Hook to work. ( I just returned from a trip where they promised me a smooth painted wall but was textured so had to hook onto a picture that was screwed into the wall. Seems small but when bringing so much med stuff it all adds up).

    2. I know that the accessible cabins are roomier to allow for scooter/wheelchairs but read they are missing some of the storage the regular cabins have. Can someone elaborate on where the missing storage is? (I know about the missing storage under the bathroom sink). Do you lose drawers? Lose Shelves in closet? Do you have under the bed storage? I have so many supplies to store it is best to know the situation so I can come up with solutions to make it easier to manage.

    3. I was told the Balcony is larger. 80 sq ft rather than the norm 50 sq feet and I could put my feet up. This sounds great since are Drs orders and I spend so much time in cabin. Does anyone know if the Accessible Balcony Cabins have a chair on the balcony that will allow me to put my feet up somehow?

It is looks from the pics I have seen that all Allure cabins have fewer drawers for clothes than other Cruise cabins I have been in before.

I would love any other observations about the Accessible Cabins. Suggestions, tips or tricks to help me manage in this cabin. Or just suggestions about how to make the most of this Ship. I bow to those with expertise for help.
