  1. How rough was the water at this beach especially for children? When I asked about this beach elsewhere people kept pushing me to Isla Verde instead but cannot find why. But saw many reviwes about Isla Verde stating the water can be too rough for kids. We just need a beach close to port. Escambron is a closer. If anyone knows how rough the water is, Cost of cab or Uber there, and if have chairs /umbrellas there or not and cost of those if do I would appreciate this info also.

  2. Confused now. Looked up Isla Verde beaches and multiple (stopped at 15) reviewers warned that water at that beach there was too rough for children. Our party will be made up of Adults and children and not really looking for a real commercial beach just a suitable beach near RCCL port.

A local had recommended Escambron so would like to know why not recommended here.

Also are the cabs the same in PR whether you choose a beach 1 mile away or 3 miles away?

Much of info on the internet in Spanish so could not read.

  3. Hear a lot hear about the room service charges. But if I am going to pay for room service I would like to hear something about what is good on the room service menu. Please let me know what foods you like on the room service menu. Sailing soon. Group eating at 5:30 with kids which is really too early for me, shows after, so room service may be best option for late night cravings since most venue closed later.

  4. Are you coming from old san Juan or pan American? I'd go with Isla verde rather than escabrom. Is this a port stop or are you embarking here? What other ports are you going to? Are there kids in your group? Anyone who has mobility issues?

A cruise ship port stop do not understand what you mean about Pan American but the Allure docks near the old San Juan area. Will have children but no one with mobility issues will be going along.

  5. Last Saturday in afternoon, bathrooms were open but no snack bar and very crowded. We rode bikes by there and were trying to find somewhere to buy a drink. Beach appeared fine but really super crowded. There's other nicer beaches.

Which would you recommend close to cruise pier. I was trying to find something not too far from cruise pier as some in my group had considered Playa Pena Beach but I was concerned about this some a local said too isolated and possibly unsafe as homeless used to hang there before hurricane so I questioned safety even more now. Not a long stay and wanted something not too far from the pier.

  6. Anyone know the current status of Escambron Beach San Juan PR? I know bathrooms were out of order and only beaches where hotels have supposedly been cleaned up. This was a lovely beach and close so would like to know the extent of damage - how bad trees down etc...I would assume could still use a beach with some downed trees, but maybe I am wrong. Would love an update if someone could provide leave in 2 weeks.Could not find current info online.

  7. We were torn between the 2 also and agree either would do. But DIL and GC decided 6 access to morning donuts made the decision. Agree has easy access to most locations. Just a long elevator ride to pool decks and stuff above. I do prefer lower for movement issues. Would never want a deck 12 cabin. Hope location on 6 means that room service will arrive hotter?

  8. Was deciding between buying a 3 device plan so could let each of 2 kids families traveling with us use but decided on buying 3 single device plans so each cabin would have their own access code to manage how they wanted- could see the log in issue causing problems if got onboard and found conflicts.Could not do this online but called and they charged me for the 3 individual plans. Buying ahead of time get surf and stream for same price as surf only later onboard. We mainly want to connect with each other though SIL felt need to check work email sometime during cruise.

  9. How has the Playa Pena Beach in Jan Juan faired with recent hurricane? Part of our group was considering this beach as a simple option. Any opinions or warnings? Any other simple ideas for a group of mixed adults/children that have seen old San Juan too many times and do not want to go shopping? I would stay on board with youngest GDs in kids club and check them out to get a better lunch and treats with GM. All my GC love the kids clubs on Oasis class but hate the lunch in there.

  10. Thanks for your opinions. We do have our own standards. But just for packing makes more sense to know what is actually accepted, expected or enforced. I never choose to be underdressed but do not like to stick out because overdressed all the time either. If their guidelines were followed I think would be great and they seem clear to me. But do think they need to be clear if standard is different on Oasis class they should say so. I can see where people have the right to get upset if on one cruise the norm is more casual so next time pack according to what just experienced and a few months later get turned away because of it in MDR.

  11. Someone mentioned (new again) rules for MDR dress code onboard. Apparently was changed on website and here is a very recent article about it. Sailing on Allure May 13. We personally pretty much adhere to this anyway. Not sure if DSo or SIL planned to wear shorts more often. Possibly some GSs might have planned to on some nights since have sailed recently and knew the new norm. What do you think of this? Not sure when RCCL made change but this article is very current.

  12. The cruise is round trip from Port Canaveral.

What local companies would you suggest calling

    and pricing around.

We do in fact have an accessible stateroom booked for her.

Thank you for the heads up though, from past experience

I cannot imagine trying to get that scooter through a standard

    stateroom door.

I am going to look at scoot-around and special needs at sea today.

I do believe that Special needs was bit cheaper, but that makes me nervous

is there a reason they are less expensive?

Also I know that the Scooter is left in the room, but rooms aren't available

until 1 PM, what is the solution until the scooter can be accessed. I know

they will give her a wheelchair to be wheeled onto the ship correct?

Sorry for all the questions just with her limited mobility I want to

make this as smooth as possible for her , because she already

feels like she is being a burden. :(:(

This was a big concern for me also getting scooter before1 pm. Hate to be dropped somewhere by a wheel chair and be stuck there. Special needs at sea (special needs group) in many ports Miami and Port Everglades( Ft Lauderdale) has a Kiosk right at pier after Security. So wheelchair assist at pier or walk to pick up scooter and wheel yourself on ship and enjoy yourself till cabins are open. If special needs at sea (special needs group) doesn't have a kiosk at that pier maybe some other company does. I know different companies are official providers for RCCL at the different ports. I have used them before and did great. Some people have said that on debarkation day might be best to do wheelchair assist out and leave scooter in cabin as when first began some had trouble with finding where to leave scooter if left the ship with it. Make sure to take a paper copy of scooter rental with you. For the small scooter I needed their price was only $185 for a seven day cruise. Do not rent before final cruise payment if might cancel cruise. One person on in the forum was upset because they have a very clear non refundable $50 rental deposit when you reserve. It is in the contract, so do not know why people would complain. Price quote was so much lower than scootaround and you do not have to reserve that far in advance. They even informed me that on the Allure they actually rent scooters onboard as well as at the kiosk. But I definitely would reserve one in advance. My larger one from home not best size for narrow halls and small elevators. It makes all the difference in the world.

  13. Royal has two different behaviors when a VOOM package reaches the device limit:

    - another device gets automatically kicked off

    - an error message is displayed which says the maximum number of devices is logged in and one must be logged off before a different device can be logged in.

If the ship is using the latter behavior, the error message indicates how many devices are logged in.

Anyone know which behavior occurs on the AOS? That would make a difference. Is the wifi available as soon as you board or get to cabin for code? Offer right now for that sailing is $15.99 -1 device surf and stream. $30.38 -2 device surf and stream. $43.18-3 device surf and stream. Rather have each family manage their own code. The slight savings is not worth the possible problems if it kept a whole family from finding the rest of us because too many devices left logged on.

I called RCCL planning, and at first said might give 3 different codes with 3 device plan. When I pushed it had to go ask. Did say could sell me the 3 single device plans and attach to different reservation # though. Really want primarily for connecting with each other. I assume this price for surf and stream beats anything onboard. Comes close to the "surf" only price onboard (whatever that means). But I assume the extra power can't hurt.Thought I read here where some people have come up with strategies to allow for easier communication on the ship within their group w/o inviting the distraction of the whole world in. How does that work? I do not foresee everyone wanting to stay online. No kids over 11.

  14. Sailing on Allure May 13 2018. If I order a 3 device Voom package will I get 3 different aces codes that I can give one each to my 2 kids families so we can communicate or use however. Would they need a Voom code actually attached to their cabins instead? If so is there a way in cruise planner to purchase for their cabins using my OBC? Trying to figure how to do this. And for each different device code given- if they had been logged in with a smart phone then one of them logged in with a tablet, it would let them in but log out the smart phone and vice-a versa?

Do yo actually get charged for 7 days not 6 since we leave late on embarkation day and regular cells will be working and arrive early on debarkation day and cells will be working. It seems like there should be a 6 day option since do not get full 7 days.

Does anyone know price onboard for single days if really only need sea days for communicating.

If bought onboard there are different packages- surf and surf and stream correct and what are prices? Buying in advance you get the full surf and stream correct? Where are the onboard purchase options listed in the forums?

I am leaning towards purchasing now unless kids tell me not to for some reason. But really will only need on sea days and Likely the San Juan Day.

I am assuming purchase price onboard for fewer days and lower plan with just surfing option would likely be higher priced than purchasing for entire time in advance. HELP!

  15. Have a larger OBC than am used to after redeeming. We do not actually spend a lot onboard on cruises. We do not drink and I do not do sodas anymore and if did they do not have my choice. We will not do specialty dining since staying with our group of 14 which is half children though may encourage husband to try the upsell Chops Filet in the MDR (though not heard good reports recently). So we will eat with group. Thinking of paying daily gratuities with OBC. Thought about purchasing multiple device voom packages, one for each cabin so we can communicate. If I do that they will send an access code for each device and I can give one to each cabin? Correct? Or does need to be registered to each individual cabin? That way we can communicate especially on sea days. And when together and do not need some of the young ones can also get their tablet fix of shows when they get tired it is calming. Old cruisers but this cruise is about family and celebrating making it to 40th Anniversary (we often did not think we would due to my health). Celebrate life by cruising.

  16. My DH has a problem with chronic Hives or urticaria also. If you need to bring extra linens on your cruise /flights. If you have a letter from your doctor they will allow the luggage with linens on your flights with at no charge. You will have to contact them in advance and only put medically needed items in the luggage. So far he has not reacted to linens on ship. At home we use only allergy sensitive detergents and if we do not do an extra rinse cycle on all clothing and linen items he has a problem and definitely reacts. Have a cruise coming up so will see how do on RCCL. In 2012 did fine on X linens. Do call ship special needs also. They may have linens laundered already for those with sensitivities. It is worth a try before you bring your own.
