So why are they selling bottle water if water is included? Also a coffee package? Confused---If the above are included I don't think I need a package?

Bottled water is not included and some people, like me, are coffee snobs and like a more "upgraded" coffee like lattes and such....lol.  Also with the package, fresh squeezed oj.....

  2. I was on Harmony and was uncertain, pre-cruise, of some of the same things/ issues.  I have to say, I LOVED Harmony and never felt crowded, although I did not eat in the WJ....lol.  Had an easier time finding pool chairs than on some of the other ships!  I would not hesitate to sail on Harmony again!  Go with an open mind, and I am sure you will have a fabulous time!!

  3. I have sailed both Carnival and RCI....we prefer RCI and even my kids (young adults) chose RCI, when given a choice of what cruise line to sail.  We feel there is a lot more to do on Royal, the food is better in general, the rooms (esp. showers) are better, and it just feels a notch above Carnival.  Will I sail Carnival again...perhaps, if price and itinerary is right.  My feeling is that any day on a cruise ship is a great day!  Ur cruise is what you make it.....I have seen people love, and not love, every cruise line.....it is just so subjective!  I say give RCI a try, enjoy ur cruise, then you will have a personal experience to compare, and decide going forward, which cruise line is more for you!  Enjoy ur cruise, whichever one you choose!!

  4. Royal excursions, as posters stated above, need to be paid at time of booking.  However, there are private excursions that sometimes give you the option for a minimum down payment and then balance is due when you do the excursion.  I just had this option on one of mine that I booked.  I usually just pay it in full when booking, as it is more convenient for me.  Less I need to worry about later.....

Speaking of the cruise planner... is anyone else having trouble with it? I know issues pop up from time to time but I have never experienced it. I log in to the website and I can see my cruise on the dashboard. I click on "Plan My Cruise" and it takes me to the old style page where it asks me for my reservation number, name, date of departure, and ship name. I enter all that stuff in and click on "submit" and then I get an error page that says the webpage doesn't even exist. I've tried multiple browsers, clearing cookies/cache, etc. not sure what else to do at this point.

Yes, I have had this happen and I just try later......

  6. RCI seems to be running sales on a lot of their excursions right now....I am sailing on the Anthem in a couple of weeks, and saved $40 on one of my excursions for Puerto Rico!  It pays to browse your Cruise Planner on a regular basis pre-cruise!  That was quite a savings for you!!  I sailed on Harmony 2 years ago and LOVED it!!  I am sure you will have a great time!

Yes, but it will be more expensive by maybe $1 plus gratuities per day per person.  It will just show up the same as a regular charge does on the Sea Pass.  I guess I don't understand the how does it show up on the SeaPass.

When you pay, you will get a soda cup with a chip in it and you can begin to use it right away.  You will only have a couple of hours til you can get in your room.  Your Sea Pass will be there....take your receipt, along with the SeaPass card, to guest services and they will put a sticker on it for you.  I had the beverage package when on HOTS and showed my print out until I got to my room...only difference is that I already had the sticker on my card, as I had purchased the package pre-cruise.

  8. 1.  If you are not a big drinker (1-2 day) and only really drink tea, then I would say it is definitely not worth paying for the beverage package!  On shorter cruises, it tends to be more affordable.  I was on a 7-day last cruise and got it...and enjoyed the convenience!  This time I am on a 9-day and the ruling has changed, to where both parties in the cabin need to purchase (and at least a refreshment package if a non-drinker for medical or other reasons).  This was not worth it to me this time.  Price depends on cruise....mine is down to $45/day and I have seen it as high as $56/day when I first booked.

2 & 3.   Carry on luggage refers to any and all luggage that you will be literally carrying onboard with you.  Checked luggage is those bags which go with a porter and you will find outside your room at some point later in the day.  If you choose to keep wine in checked luggage, you take the chance of them holding it and calling you down to the naughty room to retrieve it!  Not sure if the locks would present an issue, as I would think they would have u unlock when/ if they have to call you down....but no guarantee there.  If your luggage does not present any issue, then I am sure you will find it outside your door, still locked!  Never had this happen, so maybe someone else can speak to this better!

I did actually call them - and even had the guy check with his supervisor. They maintain that the 1C category (Large balcony room) is indeed smaller  (177) than the regular 1D balcony room (198). So - not sure the large balcony is worth it.

Also - is it better to be on the hump?  The room that has an angled balcony but still a 1D is right before the hump.

Can be so frustrating sometimes....and, unfortunately, you can't always bank on the fact that when calling RCI, you get the correct info!  I am staying a couple doors down from the angled balcony...lol.  I would have gotten that cabin, had it been available!  Never stayed on the hump, but I would definitely do so, if they are available and not too pricey!

  10. I am sailing on the Anthem May 9th, and ran into this when I was booking this cruise....thought it was odd that it was listing the cabin, with the larger balcony, as actually SMALLER than the room with the smaller balcony!  I opted to just book a room with the standard balcony, since there are only 2 of us.  It really seemed strange to me, as the rooms do appear the same size on the deck plans.  If there is any concern, give RCI a call and see what they say...

No ice cream, a tiny splash of Kahlua and chocolate poured on the inside of the glass.  It was so bad that one sip was all I had of it.

Wow!  Sounds like the bartender did not know how to make them??  I drink Mudslides all the time and have never had an issue with them being made correctly, or having plenty of alcohol in them!!

The formal night was changed becuase all aboard is 7:30 in boston.

Our concierge "helped" us through immigration this morning.. He told us it would be faster going with him. We assumed they had a separate line. He made no difference. He got us to the back of the line and then left.

The drink card showed up today. Ten drinks for $79 plus gratuities.

What itinerary are you on?  I sail Anthem in May, on the 9 day Bermuda, Labadee, Puerto Rico and St. Maarten and am hoping they offer the drink card on our sailing, since I'm opting out of the beverage package this time!  I know it's a gamble, but would be a nice bonus!!

  13. I have sailed on Carnival and RCI....with and without my kids (who are now adults).  My feeling is that there is no bad cruise, as long as I am on one!!  With that being said, I tend to prefer RCI, and so do my kids.  Seems to be more to do onboard and just seems to be a step above Carnival.  Entertainment seems to be much better on RCI!  Whichever you choose, you will have a great time!  Enjoy your cruise!

I don't recall the washing sinks on Harmony last year like I saw on Anthem before entering the Windjammer. Washy washy was good

Yep, they are there....matter of fact, they had it set up that you had to go through the washing sinks in order to get into the WJ.....Following your review, as I have sailed Oasis class (Harmony), and now going on the Anthem in May!
