  1. I certainly am resembling the quote today!  Reviewing "cruise critic" to avoid a report I need to get out for a group I secretary for!  Just can't seem to get motivated.  ( I think Covid restrictions and lack of being able to get together with friends is making my lack of motivation)

Rescued Grandson from school today for a nose bleed, it was minor, but schools have to be so cautious, so he came home with us.  Weather is cooler, looks like possibly a few raindrops this evening.  Will help the firefighters in the northwest.

So I have postponed long enough..................time to stop reviewing and get my report done!

    Stay safe.

  2. Fatcat, best wishes for your husband.  I have had episodes of vertigo to the point I had to go to my "ER" (where I worked) a couple of times for IV meds to try to help control it.  Had the Epley  procedure a couple of times.  I still have some residual balance issues, which can be comical at times.  Try walking down the hallway and "weaving"  no not drunk just no balance!

Tell him to give it time, it may take a bit to "settle down"

  3.       Good evening all, missed checking in this morning.  It is finally clear here, during the night the winds started blowing and we blew all the smoke out of here that we have had since labor day!  It is turning to fall, felt it in the air this morning, it was cool and crisp.  Made it nice to be outside and  get the "fall prepare for winter chores" done, barn cleaned and moved the hay into the storage area.  Need to finish winterizing the chickie and duck area, then we will be set!

Butterscotch pudding sounds great, but I think I am too tired to make it tonight.  Maybe for tomorrows dinner?  Hubby and I had quite a talk at lunch about what will be our next cruise!!  Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the fall weather.

  4.       One of these days we will get back on a cruise!  At least we have the memories of the ones we have gone on.  I am especially grateful for 2 of them.  One year we went to Alaska with Dad and his wife wonderful memories made, he now suffers from dementia and just doesn't recognize much anymore.

The next year we returned to on an Alaska cruise with my Mom and sister, it was fortunate as then 10 months later she suffered a stroke.  It has been three years and she has recovered enough to be independent in a retirement apartment, but is hesitant due to her stamina to try another cruise.  I know if she had not had a stroke she would cruise again, she wishes she had taken her first cruise long before she did!

So we are still dreaming of future cruises, we would love to take the 2 oldest Grandsons on a "Graduation" cruise in 3 years, but will wait and see what the future holds for us and them.

  5.      Good Morning Everyone,  Hope everyone is doing well.

The Grands had "mini donuts" for their snack today, so I guess we were prepared!

Love seeing the pictures of Yellowstone.  We were going to take a "road trip" to Yellowstone this fall, but it is on the back burner for now.

We are helping to school five grandsons between online, hybrid and part time in school classes.  It has been interesting as they were to go to school for the mornings this week, but now the air quality has closed their school.

The northwest fires have our air qualities as hazardous and we have visibility  of 780 feet today, so no sending the boys out for exercise.

Our prayers to all who have suffered loss from these fires. (our closest fire is was 25 miles from us and is out now)  We have several friends who have been evacuated and are not sure what they will return too.

Stay safe out there.  I really appreciate checking in and seeing what folks are up too.  One of these days we may just meet on a cruise!

  6. Good Morning friends, well Labor Day 2020 was a mess.  In Washington state we had fires and wind all over the state, multiple highways/freeways closed.  One small rural town  Malden, Wa was 80-90% destroyed.  Several of our friends have been affected by the fires, but they are safe.

This am my house feels "gritty" even the refrigerator has dust on the door.  My petunias outside my back porch are rather dusty looking now.  Well I guess I know what I'll be doing today.............time to clean up!  I hope everyone is safe.  I think I have a new swear word "2020"

    Stay Safe.

  7. Good Morning all,

Unusual Labor Day for me, I was usually working!  But since I retired from the hospital, my part time fill in job is actually closed on holidays!  Hubby was generally on call the same holidays, so this is a new normal for us.

We were to have a small get together to meet our nephews fiance but the weather is awful and we can't social distance in the yard as planned.

We are to have historic winds in the state and several fires are going at this time we even have ash falling in our yard and nearest fire is 90 miles from us.  Prayers to our fire and emergency personnel.

    Stay safe everyone

  8. Prices have gone up.  Tuesday, I went to the grocery store and came back with a whole beef brisket!  It was $ 2.99 per pound much cheaper then anything else.  Cut it in  half, put a rub on it.  Then wrapped and froze one half for another day.  Put the other half in the crockpot with some home made BBQ sauce!  It was awesome (I don't have a smoker, so crockpot and BBQ worked wonders!)  We ate on it, sent some over to father in law and leftover brisket sliders tonight!  Hope I can find another "sale" in the future!

  9. Thank you Copper for all the "drill" pictures.  I found it interesting as the many years I worked in the ER and was involved with in house and community medical, haz mat and disaster drills.  All employees had an "assignment" somewhere.  We also worked with multiple agencies from police, fire, military, schools etc.  I enjoyed seeing how "others" keep prepared.

  10. Kinda late checking in tonight, worked on a bunch of "end of summer" yard chores today, so just now getting to check out the daily!  The Nanaimo bars are great, but generally 2 bites and they are just too sweet to eat more...................but if you cut them into small pieces they are a nice treat.

Thank you everyone for all the nice comments, pictures, trivia, sharing that you do here.  Last night I told my husband that this site makes me smile and chuckle, a nice respite from so many things that are happening now.

    Stay safe

  11. Good Morning Everyone,  Thank you for all the kind words for our anniversary yesterday.  We really celebrated, we had Korean Dumplings from a local food truck (they are wonderful!) and then dessert was a "Blizzard" teased Dave and told him I couldn't decide which restaurant we should try "onboard"!

I hope all of you are safe from the hurricane and the weather.  Summer is winding down here, plan to do some fall/winter prep today for the critters, will get the Grandson's to help.  They are good helpers just need a lot of directions!

    Take care and stay safe.

  12.      Good Morning everyone.  Thanks for posting.  It's our 42nd anniversary today and I keep telling Dave we need to be on a cruise!!  Not sure what we will do for dinner, as things are still shut down for indoor dining. (Some places have out door seating but it is still a bit to hot to enjoy that)  We may stop and bring something home from a couple of food trucks that are making some really good food.

Today we have 4 grandsons and a grand dog here, so it is busy. (we have been watching the boys so parents can work)  It will keep us on our toes next week school starts and it is a combination of reduced class size and online learning.........................I will need a cruise.😁

Stay safe and stay well everyone.

  13. Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!  There has always been a special place in my heart for older people.  My first job was washing dishes in a nursing home (at 15 had to get a work permit signed by a judge that it was okay for me to work at 15!)  I enjoy working with my clients they have so much to share with us.  Everyone please stay safe and thank you again for the welcome.

  14. Thank you for posting the Daily.  I have enjoyed it for quite a while, while day dreaming about returning to cruising! I too am thankful for our medical transporters I worked closely with them for many years (retired from 29 years of emergency nursing) they were an integral part of our team!

I love the bit of trivia/fact you post each day, I actually do a similar share with my clients, they love it. (after retiring from the ER, that lasted 2 weeks and I went to work with dementia and developmental disable clients)  When we get back to meeting (after Covid closure)  I'll share some of the laughs with them, some of them traveled in the past and they miss it.

  15. I am planning and will book something when things settle down.  I too like the "planning" and have several plans for different itineraries!  We were actually planning to take a last minute Alaska cruise this month if the "price was right" just to see if we could take advantage of waiting. (we are 5 hours from Seattle, so easy drive in the Spring)  almost ready to book and then this darn Covid-19 virus derailed our plans.  We have had several other trips to Alaska so we had planned to just go and enjoy the trip without needing to do anything....................oh well back to the planning!

  16. I am enjoying your blog.  Keep up the trivia questions.  I am always on the lookout for "different/interesting" trivia/facts to share with my clients.  Many of them have various disabilities and can no longer get out and travel, but they love sharing, and these questions often trigger memories which they share with others.  Even on the days I have more dementia clients its interesting to see trivia facts that trigger memories. Thank you for posting them.

  17. I echo the recommendation for the Blue Horizon, we have stayed there twice.  Older motel, but nicely remodeled.  Price was reasonable for the area.  Close to port.  We were able to walk to dinner with out difficulty.  We will stay there again if we are in Vancouver.

  18. I enjoyed your review!  You "saved" me this weekend!  Coming home from a road trip I stopped to get gas for the truck, while it was fueling I picked up some garbage and almost stepped over the fuel hose to get to the trashcan.............your images flew into my mind and I told myself lets not go there!  I went around the pumps to the trashcan.  I was surprised how that memory popped into my mind!  Hope you are continuing to improve!

  19. We have sailed on the Pearl two different times to Alaska.  Out of the different ships we have sailed on, it is one of my favorites.  I love that it isn't too big!  We have also been on the Joy and the Breakaway.  We liked the Joy, the Breakaway was just okay.  I have tried to think why the difference but it was just subtle things.

If  the Pearl is sailing an itinerary I want, I will be on the ship as it is my favorite!

  20. Hi,  I ran across your review when I was daydreaming of a future cruise.  (Not sure we will go on one this winter, due to aging parents concerns, have been on several last went  in January and July 2019, but cruises may now have to go on back burner for the moment)

I cringed when I saw your injury, after 29 years of ED nursing I knew you would be in for a long road for recovery and I know us nurses are not the best patients!

I have enjoyed your review and pictures very  much.  I hope you enjoy your December cruise!

  21. Don't laugh to hard but Ketchikan has been pretty good to us for coats!  I brought a coat with me and still bought one in Ketchikan!  Best $ 20.00 I spent on a winter "chore coat"  I have actually bought two in different years that we cruised to Alaska.  Now, hubby and I have a running joke going "its time to go get a new coat"  I am currently watching for a last minute cruise deal on the Joy for this summer!  If it gets to my "price point" we may take a last minute cruise and get new coats!
