  1. I can't answers your question but as a Galveston cruiser I can only quote Leonard Cohen with a grateful Hallelujah,

    Hallelujah.

Felt we were being punished by replacing the Breeze with the Vista. Sooo happy to hear we will still have a Dream class ship.

Thank you for posting, and thanks to Carnival.

I’m glad Galveston will get to keep a Dream class ship also.

I’m assuming Triumph will stay after its dry dock and give NOLA three ships total once Valor and Dream swap.

  2. So it looks like the Triumph is getting a 2 month drydock.

Seems like its going to be a Sunshine type makeover.

I highly doubt that Triumph is given a “Sunshining”. Surely Carnival would’ve learned its lessons after the hurried drydock/revamp of Destiny and scheduled more than two months to work out the kinks.

I’m sure Triumph is going to get a nice spruce up to the cabins (think Victory and Elation) while the ship is docked instead of closing off decks while the ship is still being used, lido deck ocean view and grand suites at the bow, and probably Waterworks similar to what Glory received in her last drydock.

I’m probably wrong, but I guess we’ll find out sooner or later.

  3. Can someone get in touch with Carnival and let them know they might want to disable Pride's ship cam?! I just stumbled upon it and I had to wonder if the people on that ship realize there's a webcam on the lido deck pool area. [emoji15][emoji85][emoji23]

  4. With P&O Australia receiving Splendor (as well as a Princess ship Spring 2017 and the two HAL ships last year) I have a suspicion that Sprit or Legend might come back to the US. It seems like the Australian market is going to have a lot of capacity in the upcoming years. That could solve the Long Beach vacancy after Splendor leaves the fleet.

  5. I usually tip at least a dollar on the receipt but if I'm repeatedly going to a bartender that I like I might tip more. I've found that usually they are not expecting a tip, so anything that they get extra is usually appreciated.

On Freedom in April, I had a bartender that was servicing the aft pool area and he knew my drink of choice - Malibu and Sprite. I tipped him a little extra since he wasn't behind the bar and having to bring drinks to me and after the first two drinks he started bringing doubles for the rest of the cruise which were rung in the system as singles. That was appreciated and he was definitely tipped extra for the service.

I've found that most bartenders that you tip and build a relationship with will be more than willing to take care of you and go above and beyond expectations. Also, the bar could be crowded and you are the first person they go to. It's all up to you - are a few extra bucks worth getting better service? For me it's all about convenience and service and taking care of those who are taking care of me. :)

  6. Mattcj89, the first formal night is the second night (Sunday), the last is on the sixth evening (Thursday). I've heard that the first night in the MDR can be chaos. This was the reason we chose that evening to dine in the steakhouse. We also got a complimentary bottle of wine (we could have also chosen to buy other wine at a 50% off discount), not sure if the first night is the only option for this though.

Thanks a lot. Great job with the review so far!

  7. Thanks for this review! I'll be on Freedom Saturday, doing the same itinerary. Do you remember which night the second formal night is? I'm thinking the second sea day, but I'm not 100% sure yet and I wanted to make reservations for the steakhouse. Thanks again! :)

  8. Wonderful World and The Big Easy are the only two production shows I remember from last October.

Hopefully they keep The Big Easy since it's moving to New Orleans. I haven't heard anything about the ship getting playlist productions during this drydock and I'm pretty sure Magic kept its shows. I wonder if Carnival is moving away from the playlist shows being installed during drydocks.

  9. So quick and easily...it worked! I got emails with attachments saying my price protection request has been approved. It didn't state the amount, however.

I searched this Board and found instruction on where in the Print Online General Info docs I would see the financials, and sure enough! OBC credit already shows.

    Thank you, Carnival :)

Spa and photos, here were come...

Make sure they didn't switch your cabin! I qualified for a price drop and called Carnival a few weeks ago because I wanted to make sure my cabin wasn't changed. I got confirmation from the rep that our cabin would remain the same and after checking the confirmation email, we went from a balcony on deck 11 to a balcony on deck 6. I was able to get it all worked out, but the hassle wasn't fun.

  10. hi mattcj

Yes people do keep these pins. Some people actually sell them on ebay as well as other cruising souvenirs.

If you aren't able to take a longer cruise you can usually have lobster in the MDR for a fee and we still do get room steward service twice a day for room cleaning. You can also call 24 hrs. a day if something needs more immediate attention.

    have a great cruise

I'm curious as to how many others actually keep their pins; I didn't realize that they were that sought after. We always give our steward the pin back on the first day because it will just collect dust otherwise.

The lobster is something I won't eat unless we're dining in the steakhouse and although I realize I can still get the room serviced twice a day, I would be very surprised if this trial with the service menu isn't fleetwide by the next year. But that's a thought for another thread...

  11. My itinerary from Carnival says we will be in Nassau 7am - 5pm. I know the Bahamas are on Eastern time zone. Will the ship stay on Central Time as we are going out of Galveston? Are we really in port 6am - 4pm island time? Thanks for the help! I'm trying to see if a day pass at Sandals is worth it if I can't go until 10am.

Nassau will be an hour ahead, not an hour behind.

  12. Why would the Indian place get axed?

The Deli would be inside like the Breeze no?

Tandoor is very popular with the ships crew and officers.

The deli on Magic is where the Pizza place is on Breeze. Hopefully they move the deli inside the lido restaurant and leave the Tandoor alone. I know Freedom lost the Tandoor when they added Guys and Blue Iguana, so I'm hoping that Magic doesn't lose it's Tandoor also.

  13. Main Menu

    Fat Jimmy’s Best Barbequed Yardbird

Juicy, sweet, smoky CHICKEN BREAST. Mmmm, mmm.

    Oh, Ya! Grilled Kielbasa

A tempting Old World favorite served C-Side!

    Brew Ribbon Grilled Italian Sausage

Fat Jimmy loves ‘em! Why? Because they’re sausages!

    Granny’s Grilled Veggies

You’ll be surprised when the kids ask for seconds.

    Pig-In-A-Poke Pulled Pork Sandwiches

So slow-cooked Fat Jimmy almost fell asleep in the fire!

    Sides

    Potato Salad

    Coleslaw

    Baked Beans

    Creamed Corn

    Cornbread

I didn't realize that the food served at Fat Jimmy's (currently on Breeze and on Magic after it's drydock in the Spring) was different than the Lanai BBQ on Dream and Magic until sailing on Breeze last fall.

I definitely preferred the offerings on Dream and Magic where you could get the sliders and quesadillas. I was pretty disappointed after standing in a long line only to realize that the food was different.

  14. Yes, have just heard.....

    Magic Dry Dock 2/21/16-3/06/16

    Guys burger

    Blue cantina

    Blue iguana tequila bar

    Red frog rum bar

    Pizzeria relocate

    Deli relocate

    Fat jimmys bar-b-que

    Alchemy bar

So I guess this means the Indian food on the aft lido will get axed to make room for the deli? It will be interesting to see where they put Alchemy. My guess is the casino bar, although the piano bar does take up a lot of space on the Dream class ships so maybe there's room to squeeze it in there towards the aft.

  15. If I were a bartender at the Atrium Bar and there was a table selling Cheers 10 feet from me, I'd tell you to go over there too.

Our last cruise in January my wife and I purchased our Cheers from the bartender at one of the bars on Lido Deck shortly after boarding.

Considering the atrium bar is one of the bars that is listed as selling Cheers, I don't know what difference it makes.

  16. We went directly to the Atrium bar (with Platinum cards) and they couldn't sell us Cheers.

They directed us to the table set up across the floor.

I definitely understand that the sticker doesn't mean anything at all -- the computer knows, but we had to go to the table to add it to our accounts.

    gary

p.s. No idea what 'Next taxes' are.

    This.

We were also turned away from the atrium bar and sent to stand in line at the table in order to get the stickers applied and we still had to go through the rules spiel. I didn't really see the benefit and was hoping that the stickers would be applied upon receiving the sail and sign. I didn't really see the benefit. This was on Imagination on 9/24.

  17. However, I will be posting all of my photos, Funtimes (activity newsletters), and paper handouts on my blog because I don't know how to upload them to Cruise Critic. This is the same way I have done my review here on Cruise Critic for the past several years. [/i]

Pardon my ignorance, but that seems to be a convenient way to drive traffic to your own personal site. You mean to say that you know how to build an entire website about cruising but can't figure out how to ask Google how to post pictures to these forums? Okay... [emoji57]
