  1. We stick to the requested attire. Smart Casual in the evenings. I wear a dark suit for formal nights unless we eat somewhere other than MDR. In that case we stick with Smart Casual. I would never consider entering MDR in shorts for dinner.

Of course I also believe that a gentleman never wears a hat indoors. Hats in restaurants really peeve me. People don't seem to be raised with any manners these days. It's sad.

where's the "like" button, when you need one!! :) :)

  2. Oh, I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. Know that you are in my thoughts. And, yes, should we find ourselves on the same big boat- hugs, coffee, and Kleenex are on me. (((Hugs, friend)))

    sounds good Tracie.... bless you..:)

  3. Hello Tracy.... I do not know you personally, but feel like I "know" you through your beautiful blogs that you write. I love to read them, and feel like I am right there with you.

I will be travelling alone now, as I lost my husband just about 2 weeks ago now, and I am not even 50 yet.....

I say... go on your trip, do what you want because our path is unknown, and you should enjoy and accomplish what you can now, while you still can .....

I hope one day to be so lucky to be on a Princess ship with you.... and give you a hug!! :):)

  4. Hello.... I did the Star to Hawaii cruise in Oct. 2015 and when formal nights were held, pretty much most of the men wore suit and tie.. there were a few tuxes, but only a handfull.

    Your uniform will be perfect.

There were also some men who wore the Scottish kilt... looked great.

I will be on the Star again in Sept. out of Vancouver to Hawaii..... looking forward to it.

    Happy cruising!:):)

  5. I am the OP for this thread. Thought I should drop by and give everyone an update.

After I received my assignment, I got 2 upsell offers. Both would move me from an obstructed view to a balcony for our 7 Alaskan cruise. First was $250 pp, The second was $200. We declined both.

Then we got moved from the Obstructed view on the Emerald deck (E505) to an obstructed view min-suite on Caribe deck (C202). It is the front cabin on that deck.

Thats excellent Paul !!! Have a fabulous cruise. You have an excellent Captain and crew on that ship... say hi to everyone for me!!

    Monika

    xx

  6. I bought the soda and more package on my last 3 cruises, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

They put a sticker on your card, and very quickly all the bar staff learn who has the sticker and who doesn't and then they don't even ask to see your card.

I found that by having 1 drink per day and 1 hot chocolate......it paid for itself.... :):):):)

Will definitely buy this package again. The chocolate banana and tropical breeze were really good.

  7. OP.. I am considering this cruise from Sydney as well, only I would continue on up to Vancouver . Have never been downunder , so I understand how daunting the planning can be. I am almost 6 feet tall, so I completely understand the crapped seating as well. I would not be looking forward to that , but I guess if I don't do it, then I would never see some parts of the world.

good luck with your planning and when you decide, let us know! :)

  8. We have been on the waitlist for an S4, S5, and S6 on Island Princess for months. Just got notification this morning we cleared the list and Princess offered us D701, a Vista Suite.

    I have to make final payment by end of day today. Two quick questions;

    1) does the balcony have the two steamer loungers?

    2) is Dolphin deck a good deck to be located on?

Excellent Dshock!!! see you on the rollcall. Congrats!! :)

  9. They've done that pool towel and blanket check out procedure before ...

It is ridiculous and and not happy to hear they have reinstated it. Why are they so tight with them? Do people really steal these items from the cruiseline? Argh!!

yes, they do steal them... thats why they do this. Always a few rotten eggs to ruin it for everyone else.

  10. I had the free grats on the Star this past April/May and they did not show up on my folio... I have had it where it would show up and then a "minus" right below it, but I think they have changed that now fleetwide.

  11. I travel solo and love it !! :)

I have anytime dining and I have been fortunate enough to sit with lovely people every meal...... yes, they all do ask the same questions of me.. why do you cruise solo.. are you lonely, etc. etc. I gladly answer their questions... its no problem.. they are curious of me, as I am of them.

We have alot of laughs and thats what cruising is all about for me... well, ok.. the ports too!! LOL :)

  12. When I travel with my girlfriend, she loves to play the slot machines. You know at the top of the machine, it tallys a total of "credits", I'm gonna say... sorry, I don't go much to the casino... just to check on her and how she is doing.

Anyway, by the time our 15 day Hawaii cruise was over, she had a total of over 20,000 points/credits... she was told she was the highest number on the ship!!

She was given a FREE 15 day cruise to be booked in the next 30 days and also $750.00 OBC for the casino when she goes on that next cruise!

By the way... I'm going with her!! :D:D:D

  13. Uhh ? .. What Tip ????

I had tipped my driver, very friendly, pointed out stuff along the way, give tips on things to do in San Pedro if I had the time. etc. etc.

    Very friendly and efficient.

I always tip the taxi driver as well.......... and they don't say anything to me... except."where to".

  14. I have used Uber from LAX to San Pedro... loved them. $36.00 was my cost. Then tip on top of that.

When you have your luggage, you have to go up 1 level ... between terminals 2 and 3, if my memory serves me correctly.... and look for a sign that says "shared ride"... that is where Uber picks up.

YOu can contact your Uber driver once you get a quote from them... ( by the way... you must have the address of where you are and the address of where you are going).... my Uber driver talked me through the directions of how to find him and it was easy. Great service.

Hope that helps. Would use Uber again for this. Saved alot of money. :)

  15. We are on our inaugural Princess cruise aboard the Star Princess in October, having only cruised with P&O previously. British Airways have made us a provisional one night room only reservation at the LAX Hilton Hotel prior to cruising the following day. I have read negative local reviews of this area of the hotel for walking out in the evening.

As I have time to cancel this reservation can anyone offer advice, guidance as to a preferred stay location perhaps nearer the World Cruise Centre at San Pedro?

Crowne Plaza or the Doubletree in San Pedro is much better...... its about a $65.00-$75.00 taxi ride from LAX to San Pedro... depending on the day and time that you arrive.

I always stay at the Crowne Plaza and walk with my luggage the next day to the ship. Such a beautiful walk along the board walk.

    Enjoy your cruise :)
