  1. Also from Saint John and I disagree. King's Landing is a two hour drive on a boring divided highway in each direction.

St. Martin's sea caves and the Fundy Parkway are beautiful. The museum, city market, loyalist burial ground and a wander around the old part of the city near the cruise terminal are also great.

Also, you will get to see some change in the tides simply based on how much the Splendor will move up or down in comparison to the dock during the port time.

  2. I would also recommend St. Martin's and the Fundy Trail Parkway.

Or...if you want something more casual, the city market and a stroll around the old city near the cruise terminal will reveal several quaint pubs and microbreweries.

Lots of nice golf courses nearby too.

  3. Good service is in the eye of the beholder. On the flip side imagine someone wanting a cocktail or a glass of wine and spending your time in a venue looking for someone to serve you, I have had this happen and it is frustrating. Yes Princess is there to serve and the staff may indeed be held in account of what they sell. In the end I would much rather have been asked and pleasantly reply yes please or no thank you rather than never being asked at all, I call this great service and pray I get it on my upcoming cruise:)

I was thinking the same thing....sounds like good service to me!

  4. Hopewell Rocks is a two hour from the port. Amazing at low tide or when you have enough time to see low and high tide but not great if you are only going to be there at high tide. Check the tide schedule to make sure. You can drive but part of the route (40minutes)is a two lane winding country road.

There are many quaint little pubs and a few microbreweries within 5 minutes walk from the ship. Also within 10 minutes the city market, loyalist burial ground, nb museum, lots of neat little shops and examples of unique architecture.

The reversing falls is only really, really impressive when the tide is coming in and pushing the river backwards creating some pretty impressive whirlpools. This is about a 30 minute walk.

It is a very small city core area and easy to get around.

People are very, very friendly but do appreciate good manners and pleasantness in return. Enjoy!

  5. Thank you all for the replies. I don't think it is doable this trip and I am, frankly, a little relieved not to have to plan this. I think I will just suggest hubby and father in law head to the Museum of Flight which is pretty close to our hotel in Tukwila. They could be there for opening at 10:00, spend an hour or two and then head to the terminal for cruise without too much difficulty.

  6. Trying to plan trip for in laws who are sweet but keep adding requests. So, looking for opinions. Is it possible/wise to do a boeing factory tour morning of departure? We sail July 11 on crown Princess at 4:00 pm.

I would somehow have to arrange pickup at Ramada Tukwila to Boeing factory, luggage storage while on tour and then transportation to the pier?

    Any ideas/opinions would be appreciated.

  7. Fog in the Maritime Provinces can happen any time of day 12 months a year (Ice Fog in Dec, Jan, Feb). Temperatures can fluctuate wildly over the course of one day. Yesterday I left home at 7:00 am in fog, rain and 2 degrees celsius, by 4:00 pm it was sunny and 20 degrees celsius and had started to rain again when I got home At 9:00 pm. So don't worry too much about the weather because anything can happen regardless of what time of year.

Come and enjoy the beauty and the friendly people!

  8. The Calgary Stampede is usually in July if you are interested.

Also check out Brewster Tours in Banff area for activities.

I agree with renting a car and driving the Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Columbia Icefield and Golden Triangle over a 5-6 day period.

Consider lodging in Canmore. Only 15 minutes from Banff and more reasonably priced.

  9. We stick to ship tours and have found them to be very good and not too much more than private tours. I am a worrier so the total guarantee of being on a ship sponsored tour is worth a lot to me. We have done many different tours both on and off cruise ship vacations.

We loved the princess tours we did in Rome and Ephesus. The guides were amazing and we really felt we got good value. We usually try to book tours that have at least a small bit of "time on your own" because we are a both introverts and need that.

The only tours I have ever had issues on were one in Barcelona because of a bad tour guide and one in Jamaica because of horrible fellow cruisers.

In my experience, all of my Princess tours have been exactly as described. Some people jist don't read the descriptions or expect private 5 star amenities on a $50 excursion.

  10. Thank you all for your responses. After more research and much discussion with my train buffs, we have opted for the Bennett Lake trip.

I will let you know what we thought when we return

  11. I am a little confused.

We booked cruise early. Requested early traditional dining and thought we got that months ago. My reservation says:

    Dining time requested:6:00 pm

    Dining time confirmed:6:00 pm

But then below the above it says 6:00 pm (waitlist #317)

So, am I confirmed and they are telling me there is a waitlist or am I on a waitlist

I have never noticed this before. Much appreciate opinion from any experienced princess cruisers.

  12. We are doing RT on Crown out of Seattle. Have post cruise excursion booked but will need to get a hotel room afterwards as we are travelling with seniors who will need a rest before our 11 pm flight....so basically looking for a place to nap, freshen up etc from about 2:00 pm-9:00 pm. Hotel rooms in Seattle seem either stupidly expensive for basic chain hotels or cheap and questionabe....any advice would be appreciated.

  13. I am upscale and in the 35-50 age bracket. Give me quiet and relaxing any day. I don't particularly like hairy chest contests and drunken musical chairs at the best of times and appreciate not having that on Princess....just not the cruiseline for those activities and that is why many people choose princess.

I think variety between the cruiselines is a good thing.

  14. We are doing roundtrip from Seattle because:

    1. Flight times and prices in and out of Alaska are ridiculous and we can't take time to do B2B.

    2. We wanted to do Glacier Bay and the Princess out of Vancouver do Tracey Arm.

    3. As Canadians from the East Coast, flights are actually cheaper in and out of Seattle than they are in and out of Vancouver!

Given the time and money, I would certainly prefer 14 nights on a B2B but that just doesn't work right now.

  15. Bulky leather jackets don't sound like they will fit the bill....you are better off in colder climates (as others stated it is summer but perhaps cold for you) with layers. A long sleeve t-shirt, a fleece layer or hoodie and then a light weight nylon waterproof layer would probably be best. If you are really not used to cold weather, light gloves and a hat or headband may be needed too.

Having said that you will see some people with parkas and you will see us Canadians in tshirts and shorts:)
