  1. If it makes such a mess of our manicures, how good can it be for our hands/skin?

It's not, it dries out the skin so best to use a nice good quality hand cream. People worry about their faces aging but not many don't think about their hands and it is a dead giveaway.

  2. For us it is about logistics, living 50 minutes from the port, so we choose to sail from PC so the Dream or Fantasy. I am not drawn enough to the Wonder or Magic to travel to try it but would look again on the odd occasions they sail from PC so can't comment objectively on the smaller ships.

  3. This makes me believe there is something more behind the policy change--legal or insurance issues do make sense. I didn't think so initially' date=' but I now believe there is more to this than financial motivation.[/quote']

What caused you to rethink it? I may be totally blinkered but I personally still don't buy this, if this was the case surely it would have been perfectly acceptable to come right out and say this to passengers. It's kind of hard to argue with legal or even insurance reasons.

  4. Glad you had a great time. Just out of curiosity did you get the opportunity to spend time in the adult only areas/beach/restaurants/spa/bars?

We sail Disney without kids, we are not what you would call Disney freaks by any means of the imagination.

However it's a lot of considerations really, we are so near the port therefore I don't really want to drive to FLL or Miami, we get residents rates where we can go at the drop of a hat, we never sail during the school holidays so ships are not over run with children and we spend most of our time in the adult areas on and off the ship (Serenity Bay) and dine in the adult only specialty restaurants to break up the MDR where we choose late dining as less kids.

The bigger balcony rooms with the split baths are great and a good size for two plus the ships themselves are beautiful.

The mouse is there if you want it if not walk on by, we don't do the shows now as we have seen them all before numerous times so we just relax as we would on any other line.

So that is just a little insight from an adult cruiser who travels sans kids.

There are things I don't like about DCL, the MDR food is mediocre at best and I am not chuffed with their new alcohol policy and the itineraries are getting a little boring so our next couple are X/Princess so will be interesting to see the difference as I am sure there are kids on these lines too!!

  5. CELTICGIRLCRUISER: Thank you for the info RE "Elle" black dress. It's always interesting to know the background of a label!;)

sunnydaygirl: I take most of the photos, too...so it's not always easy to get "fashion photos"! DH takes landscape & scenery mostly. He's in lots more pix since I tend to take more offbeat shots. We all like to see Outfit pictures, so hope you can get some!

QUESTION: We're fairly new to taking pictures with our iphones. Do you CCFs use a camera, phone or both? I'm thinking about using only my phone (and DH can use his) on The Next Cruise...

I generally use my tablet and then my phone but also take an underwater camera as that has the best flash for evening photography. I like my mobile devices for the ease of uploading the pictures instantly to social media etc. Being a huge foodie I confess I take food pictures more than I should and I was finding the phone wasn't bright enough at night.

  6. We drive to the port, park at the Raddison and take their shuttle, we have never waited for anything, security, check in or to get on on and we skip the photo line if it is long, this has been the same for our last 3 or 4 times. We get there at circa 11.30 am for what it is worth. I will point out that there is a line for past cruisers (castaway club member) but there are of course quite a few of those too!

If I was you I would probably get up at a reasonable time, have breakfast, get myself over to the terminal mid morning, soak it all up and then get on the ship ready for lunch which we have at 12.30 before the staterooms are ready.

Just get on the ship as early as you can to make the most of every minute.:)

  7. So MM I bet you you would do a 3 nighter if you lived 50 mins from the port, it's about circumstances. The OP is probably beyond excited, so to say you would only go if free is a bit harsh, especially when the thread is about wearing pirate costumes.

  8. Melody posted about CND Vinylux, which I haven't heard of before...

Wanted to point out that I think that the color "Gilded Pleasure" is a LOT like the Peridot color. I thought you enjoyed that:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=gilded+pleasure+vinylux&espv=2&biw=1165&bih=714&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CDIQsARqFQoTCI7Bs-Kv1McCFcUcPgodGDwOwQ

It is CNDs answer to regular polish for those who do not want to wear their Shellac brand colors so long, Vinylux has replaced their old "regular" polishes.

It has many matching Shellac colors so people can have the Shellac manicure and still have the same color with a "regular" Vinylux pedicure. They have added lots of extra colors too. It is designed as a retail product but a few of the CND salons/spas use it too.

  9. ...........

Oh, I sure you'll find shoes with 3-7 inches heels here - now finding a shoe that's under 2 inches that supports / cushions a size 10 foot that has no arches and has to look presentable at the same time, well that's a different matter.... That's what Amazon, Zulily & DSW is for. :)

I meant finding a shoe in my own collection, I don't possess too many flat closed in shoes. I can quite believe you can find 7 inch heels in NY!

I do understand your issue with finding the right shoe for you not always being easy as in my school days I worked as a "Saturday girl" in a shoe store and we saw it all. I also come from a large city where all the business ladies used to wear beautifully tailored suits and gym shoes to hurry to and from work each day.

  10. Not trying to convince, said take a look - I don't think anyone here would buy if they were $10-20 on Amazon (which is exactly how I winded up with all 3).

Just as you'll never convince me to wear flip-flops or open-toe shoes - Never going to happen because of too many failures and injuries with those types of shoes on my feet. I've yet to have one of the crocs disintegrate or snap in 2 hours of wearing them like flip-flops have at the beach...

I think everyone has their own good reasons why particular styles /looks/items, they will never wear. But it doesn't hurt to see the look of those items, just to look. Never know; they might be an alternative to what one hates, just like what happen to me and flip-flops / open-toes shoes - Found Crocs, Bernie Mev and certain sandal styles.

It would be hard for you if you lived down here not to wear sandals or flip flops, luckily you probably don't have that problem in the Bronx. Saying that if I came to visit you I would have problems finding a closed in shoe that doesn't have a three to four inch heel. (I have over 250 pairs of shoes, so that is quite a failure on my part, lol)!

Variety is the spice of life, would be boring if we were all the same.:)

  11. 3 out of 5 pairs of my cruise shoes are Crocs, but not their typical style of them. If you lookup Gianna Link ballet flat Mahogany/Bronze and Adrina flat black - they do look good for both beach/sundeck and NCL/Carnival MDR. [emoji4] The other one is the Kadee Ballet Flat - I needed beach shoes ASAP for 1st cruise.[emoji2]

    You'll never convince me:p

  12. Can you stay as little or as long you want on the island. Do they have smaller boats there to take people back whenever they want? Anything worth paying for there?

You dock on the island. They have a tram to whizz you around to the various places.

If you haven't read Gambees DCL trip report you should dig that out, that will get you excited.

  13. .....

Calling my name was an LBD and then a great color knit top.

The dress is by "Elle". Never heard of it so googled to find out. It's a brand from Kohl's and dresses sell in the $60 range.

This one has a lace top and peplum. The belt looks kinda cheesy up close...but quite passable when the dress is on.....

icon14.gif. That makes me a happy CCF!!

Just a bit of background. Elle was a "sporty" brand maybe a bit like Pineapple, when I was growing up in UK, they branched out into more "normal clothes, but it was always a good name and more expensive. It has become a but run of the mill now and you will see Elle socks/hosiery/brollies in the likes of Ross from time to time.

  14. I am still searching for my "style" I still have my 'mom' body and my son is almost 3 [emoji33] I really want to save money and hire a stylist because I am not good with fashion or makeup or anything. I was raised by my single dad so beauty tips were never spoken of. I'm more of a t shirt and shorts with flip flops and a pony tail type of gal right now but I want to wear cute feminine things and look nice for my hubby.

You don't need to save money to hire a stylist, some stores have people that will help you find something nice. You can start off with just a few pieces that don't age and go from there with accessories/shoes etc.

Nowadays Mr Google will be your best friend, you can get so many ideas and style from the www.

You can always go and get a makeup lesson but I would use a pro rather than the girls at the counters whose only goal is to sell sell sell. A great hair style, well cut, can make a huge difference too with appearance.

And of course we have the ladies on this section of the forum who are "into" fashion/beauty and we can help too with ideas. I will always tell the the truth if asked.
