  1. I really want to go to Mountain Top. Last year, in St Thomas, we went to Magen's Bay first and then planned to take a taxi to Mountain Top from there but we couldn't find a taxi that was willing to take us there.

Does anyone have any advice or do we have to take a ship excursion to get there. My 7 year old is very scared to try the sky ride up so that probably isn't an option.

Oops the sky ride is at Paradise Point so ignore that part :)

  3. Cas Abao as well as Porto Marie are about 30 minutes from the cruise port. Taxi average is $40 each way.

Most people say that Porto Marie has better snorkeling, but Cas Abao is prettier.

Keep in mind that the beach closes at 6 PM, so you might not have much snorkeling/beach time if you're coming in at 2 PM.

The $40 each way for the taxi is that per person or $40 no matter how many people?

  4. Curacao

If you want to dive, check out operators in Curacao for a "Discover Scuba course". Underwater, whether diving or snorkeling, is better in Curacao than Aruba.

In Curacao we simply took a taxi to Playa Porto Mari. My husband and I were set on just spending a day at the beach. We ended up diving (we are certified already). They also have a snorkel trail there as well. It was very easy getting there by taxi.

    Aruba

Search here in this forum. Aruba is great for beaches as well as sightseeing.

    Aruba-best beaches

Was it pretty easy to get a taxi in Curacao to Playa Porto Mari? Is it easy to get one as you're leaving the beach or do we need to make sure the one that drops us off will come back?

  5. Chiming in here, but would you recommend Porto Marie beach for young children? Any other beaches that are not crowded and nice for little ones? thanks!

I was wondering this too. Is Porto Marie or Cas Abou better for young children?

  6. I've been trying to decide if we should book with Peter Trips to do their beach tour stopping at Big Knip, Cas Abou and Porto Marie. It's $50 and includes all entrance fees.

Or should we just try to get a taxi as we leave the ship to take us to either Cas Abou or Porto Marie for the day? Is it pretty easy to get a taxi to one of these beaches? Is it easy to get one back to the ship when we are done at the beach? Would the driver, also, be willing to take us by the flamingo area?

Thanks for any advice or opinions you can offer :)

  7. We are in St Thomas from 8-5pm. We want to hit PP and Magen's Bay. Does anyone have advice on which place we should go to first? Is it pretty easy to get taxi's to and from both places?

Last time we were in St Thomas, a taxi driver tried to talk us out of going to Magen's Bay because he couldn't find enough people to fill the van. He made us wait for a long time until the van was full.

  8. We went last year and just found a taxi as we got off the ship that took us there. I can't remember exactly how much it was. When you're ready to leave the beach there are many taxi's waiting for you.

This year we hope to go to Magen's Bay for a bit and then have a taxi bring us up to Mountaintop. I'm wondering if they would be willing to do this. They always seem to want a full van before heading anywhere.

  9. You can get some good info from going to ports board. We've done all the ports mentioned. Went to Boatyard, close and inexpensive (they will provide transportation back to ship) If there are a lot of ships in port will get VERY crowded. Really enjoyed snorkle with turtles thru private company (can not remember name) Aruba is for beaches Got a taxi to eagle Beach and rented palapa and chairs from Amsterdam Manor No crowds. Liked it so much spent a weeek there in October. Cab catch the bus back as stops right in front. Curacvao just walked into town and caught a local tour (inexpensive) Enjoyed the cafe and casino after. Not fond ot the beaches there

Thank you for this! I've been trying to decide if it would be better to do a beach day in Aruba or Curacao. Aruba it is!

  10. Thank you so much for the review! I know it takes a lot of time but it is so much appreciated!

We are taking the same cruise in March except they changed our Columbia stop for Guadeloupe and St Martin for Barbados. After seeing your Columbia pictures I'm a bit disappointed! The buildings are beautiful! It would have been neat to say I've been there :)
