  1. I just got off the Veendam on Friday. We had very rough seas. It started getting rough after leaving NYC and was rough all the way to Ft. Lauderdale.

    Food Poisioning

I am guessing the OP didn't get the response they were looking for since they haven't been back to respond to questions. Accusations that could possibly not be true can really hurt a company. I understand the OP's frustration but maybe they should have taken a step back before posting. JMO

    Rented a Car in Halifax!

This is a great start. Thanks for all the input.
  4. I will be in Halifax on October 12th I have already rented a car. I kind of want to get away from the touristy stuff. What is a must see? I love the small fishing towns and stuff like that. I know I won't be able to get away from all the tourist stuff, but I want to see some local flair.
  5. This thread reminds me of some FB post. They are very vague and only want people to ask what is wrong. I normally don't respond. Dang it....I just responded.

A must read for all cruisers!

I think your first problem is how you spoke to the CSR. I have a feeling you were very rude and probably came across entitled. These people were overwhelmed with calls. The last thing they need is someone calling that wants an answer to a question that is NOT an emergency. And not to mention that you were probably being over dramatic. If you went to Burger King and asked for a Whopper with no onions, but actually got a Whopper with onions....would you call McDonalds and ask them if you had ordered a Big Mac with no onions would they give you a Big Mac with onions? Sounds crazy doesn't it? That is exactly what you did by calling Carnival. You have been on three cruises. By no means are you considered an expert on cruising. I'm sorry, but this just all seems so petty to me.

    My Dreams have Been Crushed!

I was just in Cozumel for a week. It's perfectly safe. There is a travel advisory because it's Mexico. Not one thing has happened there. So try again. Your complaint holds no water.

    My Dreams have Been Crushed!

The ONLY port that could be considered dangerous is maybe Falmouth. I personally loved that port. I never left the gated area. I am really appalled at your post. Yes, you spent a lot of money. So did a lot of other people. Have you considered that every cruise line is having to change their itineraries? Do you think that it's possible all of the cruse lines have had to get together and figure out what they are going to do. Do you think it's possible that they have to all go differed places so there isn't six ships in one port on a particular day? Quit thinking about yourself and be happy you are able to take a vacation.

    Small children - safety

I was just in Cozumel for an entire week. While I did not have children with me, I have never felt safer. Cozumel does a great job at keeping the bad guys from coming to the island. We had several locals tell us they watch who is coming in on the ferry. Remember, Cozumel is an island. People from the mainland must come on the ferry or by private boat. They know who is coming. I saw a lot of people with kids (big and small) I personally think you should get off the ship and have fun.
  10. I'm just going by what reynoldsrsj said. See his reply above. Now you have busted my bubble. :D
  11. Thanks for the replies. I think we have now decided to stay at the seaport. I was not aware there was so much there. Thanks for the advice.
  12. Hello all, I will be cruising on the Veendam in October. I have been to Boston many times and have seen most everything. This trip, we have decided just to go to Quincy Market and people watch. What is the best way to get to the market from the pier?

how strict are they on age in the bars?

I'm thinking that some of you need to go on "Adults Only Cruises" You also might want to pull that stick out!

how strict are they on age in the bars?

I know I will get flamed for this. It's OK. Here is part of the problem. The teen club is for up to 18 years old. So for kids that are ages 19-20 have absolutely no place to go. I see absolutely no problem with letting say 17 and up into the disco as long as they have a parent with them. They have nothing else to do. They are stuck in an age where no one will allow them in. Here is where the flaming will start. I vacation in Red River NM. Very small town with snow skiing and summer activities. There is a bar there name Bull of the Woods. Small local bar. I started taking my son there when he was 2 years old. My son is now 21 years old. And guess what? He HATES alcohol. Allowing a kid in a bar is not going to make them an alcoholic anymore then allowing them in the post office is going to make the a Post master some day. You may think my parenting morals are wrong. But I have a good kid that works, goes to school and doesn't drink. Oh and if you letting them into the comedy club is a horrible thing to do......I promise you, they have heard much worse at school.
  15. This is a little harsh. The OP did NOT steal the jewelry. They were trying to do the right thing. I have no doubt that HAL has a good lost and found. However, not every employee on HAL is honest. Everyone of you know as well as I do, that there are some employees that would pocket whatever they found. So those of you bashing the OP need to stop. They did what they thought was best. And I totally get it. I'm not a very trusting person. I tend to assume the worst. To the OP. What you did is fine. While I do agree you probably should contact HAL, at least you know that no one pocketed the item.
