  1. Hi, I'm in the process of booking a cruise with Princess and I have a question regarding Princesses Insurance.  I understand Princess offers a Standard Insurance and a Platinum Insurance.  We also have Platinum status.  According to what I read on the Captain's Circle benefits, Platinum passengers can purchase the Princess Standard Insurance and receive the Platinum Insurance benefits.

Is this true?  And if so, do I tell my travel agent I want the Standard or Platinum Insurance?  I'm new to Platinum status and trying to figure this out.

Actually, the travel agent originally listed me for Standard Insurance.  When I inquired about the Platinum benefits she changed my reservation to show Platinum Insurance but now the cost is higher.  I've not paid the deposit yet and would like to get this settled before making the deposit.

Appreciate any and all help.  Thanks.

While no one can predict the weather conditions be prepared for heavy rain and rough seas.  And if you luck out had have lovely weather be happy.

For the family members heading to Fairbanks, they will arrive during our aurora season.  Are they considering a visit to Chena Hot Springs Resort?

I think my brother and his wife were aware of the Chena Hot Springs, and may have already purchased their return flights.  However, I have not, an I am interested in spending an extra day or so and overnight at the Chena Hot springs.  How is the weather/Aurora viewing from Chena Hot Springs in later September.  Any other suggestions if we were to add an extra night or two on our own after the Princess land tour concluding in Fairbanks with what to see and do either at the hot springs, or Fairbanks area?  Thanks.

  3. Looking to book a Princess cruise and land tour in 2023.  I always had the impression that land tour might include a train that would pick up at the ship's port, i.e. Whittier, and can take all the way from Ship to Fairbanks via train with stops at McKinley Lodge, Denali Lodge, and Fairbanks Lodge.  But as I look at some of these tours, I'm not seeing that.  For example, one shows a Coach from the Ship to Anchorage, then Coach to McKinley Lodge, then the "train" from McKinley Lodge to Denali Lodge, and then back to a coach from Denali Lodge to Fairbanks.  Not exactly the train excursion I assumed from Ship to Fairbanks.  What am I missing, or does such a Princess rail tour not actually exist from Ship to Fairbanks?  Thanks for all your help.

  4. I understand there may have some damage near the pier in Skagway due to a rock slide in 2022.  Did this prevent cruise ships from arriving in Skagway in 2022?  If so, will it affect Skagway cruise arrivals in 2023?  Thinking of doing a Princess cruise that visits Skagway in 2023, and was wanting to learn what is going on with regards to the damage, and if the ship will actually visit Skagway, and if not, will Princess add a substitute port?  Thanks for all information.

  5. My brother and his wife have already booked an Alaska cruise departing around September 9 from Vancouver, up to Whittier and then doing the Train tour up to Fairbanks.  They want us to join them.  All sounds wonderful, but I'm cautious about going in September.  I wish they would have selected a summer month like June or July.  Don't mind cooler weather, but not keen on getting a lot of rain, especially with the idea of spending so much money for possible poor weather.  Anyhow, wondering what others have experienced with September weather.  Thanks so much.

I have a question on the time of the test.  Princess states that PCR or Antigen test to be done 72/48 hrs before sailing.  The ship delay the sailing to 11pm Saturday night. Therefore , we can't take the test before 11pm 2/3 days before sailing.   I though that it was 72/48 hours before embarkation.

For sailings out of Canada, the Antigen test per Princess website says 2 days.  PCR test is 72 hours.  My interpretation is 72 hours from boarding, not departing.  However this is a good question because for flights when a test is required for some intl destinations requiring a test such as a PCR the airline requirement is 72 hours from boarding time,.not check in time as required by some countries.  So based on this, I now question my interpretation.

  7. WejAre Covid test still free for cruises at urgent care or pharmacies?  I need a Covid test for a cruise sailing out of Canada.  We're flying to Canada on a Thursday morning, and boarding on a Saturday.  So if I want to take my test while still in the US, I'll need a PCR which is valid 72 hours.  Trying to figure out whether to go to a pharmacy like Walgreens or to an urgent care which can provide results within 24 hrs or same day pending when test is taken.  Anyone, wondering if this is going to cost no matter where I go.  I know back in November for a cruise I was not charged.  Perhaps my insurance covered, I don't know.  But what about now, what are cruises doing now for sailings out of Canada which still requires testing.  Thanks, appreciate your help and information.

Sailaway was great. We got to see a beautiful sunset since the ship did not leave until 7:30. I figured out the herd of elephants I could hear from my cabin were the dancers right above me. They did the sailaway party from Neptune's Reef and Pool area. MUTS is at the Calypso Reef and Pool.

I went to dinner after we passed under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. It was a nice table for 8 with a couple from Florida, a couple from Iowa, a couple from South Carolina, and a solo woman from California. The food was good. I thought there would be plenty of time to eat and make it to the show. I was wrong. I skipped out on dessert to go see Doug Funk's show. I don't know if I've seen him before or he was just telling old jokes that other comedians also tell. I left about halfway through.

What time was your dinner reservation and what time did the show starts?  Thanks

  9. I'm a Platinum status and previously the Medallion Net fee showed $50 for my upcoming September 10 night cruise.  I didn't want to pay early, but with the cruise less than 3 weeks away figured I'd finally make the $50 payment.  However, today I see the cost is now $100.  I see on this forum I'm not the only one discovering this issue.  Well, at least I'm not alone in this issue.  I wonder, if it doesn't get resolved before boarding, can I get the Platinum discount rate on Ship?  How long has this been an issue?  Thanks.

  10. Trip is not until September but this morning tried to log in to the Medallion App but was not able to log in.  Something about information not matching.  But I checked and checked again and my information is correct.  Anyone else having log on issues.  Thanks.

I ordered four of the Binax Home Test kits. I know that before we take the test we scan the QR code on the front of each box that we will be using.  My question is how do they identify each of us? Do we fill out a form or does the person who is monitoring the test identify us by passport or drivers license or what ? thanks

You will need to download the Navica app.  Each person must have their own Navica account.  Go to YouTube and search for Covid test and there will be plenty of videos on how to do.  Also, Abbott BinaxNOW has a video too.  Again, each person must have a Navica account.

  12. Is the actual vaccination card sufficient or can a photo work.?  We have a cruise in September.  Just found out my brother only has a photo of his card on his phone, and the actual card was washed and ruined.  I just texted him to go to where he originally received his vaccine card and ask for a replacement.  Was wondering if anyone was able to board with just a photo.  Plus, cruise is out of Quebec City Canada, and a vaccine is needed to go to Canada.  Anyone else have this issue?  Thanks.

Hi, I'd like clarification on when I need to get my PCR test.  I'll be boarding on a Saturday in Quebec City Canada.  According to the Princess website, if doing a PCR test, a PCR test within 3 days of cruise.  So would the earliest test date be on the Wednesday before?

We're flying to Quebec City on Thursday and spending 2 nights before boarding on Saturday.  I do plan to purchase and bring the Optum BinaxNOW Antigen Telehealth test and maybe do the day before, but mostly I'd like to have a test in hand before leaving the US on Thursday, and hoping a PCR test taken on Wednesday will be valid, and not expired come Saturday boarding.  Looking for verification.

    Thanks

To update, I understand the PCR test is valid 72 hours prior as opposed to 3 days.  We board on a Saturday in Quebec City, but the ship doesn't sail till next day, Sunday afternoon.  So when exactly would we need to get the PCR test and still be valid? Thanks.

One thing to keep in mind is that the test has to be within 72 hours of the time that the ship is scheduled to sail.  So, if the ship is scheduled to sail at 4:00 PM on Saturday, the test has to be taken after 4:00 PM on Wednesday.  If that works for you, you can get tested on Wednesday.

For our cruise, we board on a Saturday, then spend the night on the Ship, and sail out Sunday afternoon. So does this complicate when to count back the 72 hours for a PCR test?
