mellion1;  I have had club class on all my cruises and we have the same wait staff every night.

Wow, you lucked out.  Even at lunchtime on sea days, it was very busy.  We went later in the evening and they told us that we could only have the same server/table IF they were available.  People were still eating their meals.  We have excellent service all the time in the dining room anyways.  We kinda felt like fish in a bowl when we would do Club Class as everyone was looking over wondering why they couldn't come over in that area!  We usually stay on for 30 or more days and so it is so much easier to get the same staff so they know what we like and also getting to know them is one of the best parts of our cruise.

I am not an aft lover, but do appreciate a good suite.  Somewhere down the line, the bean counters decided that cabins needed to be revamped (and not for the better).  A long time ago, I "won" a night on the Queen Mary, Long Beach.  I remember the days of traveling on a Matson "luxury" liner.  I had so much fun re-living those days on the Queen Mary.  I always thought they should have turned her into a Cruise Ship hotel ... with classes and full ship activities.  But I digress.

Be it said, I am in favor of the older Princess ships.  My days have passed.

Thank you so very much for sharing your cruise with us.

I totally agree with you about the changes to the newer ships.  I am having a difficult time finding a room with a large covered balcony like on the Grand class ships.  Just noticed yesterday researching and the new ships have no stairs to any of the pools either...all ladders.  What a shame.  I know it is everyone's personal preference on these items, but we just said we must be in the minority to feel the way we do.

No worries.  The cabin is nearly all the way forward, but it's still on the Port side of the ship so not directly facing forward.   I was surprised how little wind there was.  In fact, at night, we kept the door open and I would have liked a stronger breeze for sleeping.  A guess at the size is 5x12.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos of the interior. (I'll ask DH)  But no, there wasn't a separate room.....just a square-sized room for the couch, coffee table, bed and desk.  Tons of closet space.  If I could afford the regular price, I would get this room again in a heartbeat.  Location was perfect.

Here are a couple more photos from the balcony....

Thank you so much for the info.  I will now have to check pricing!!  LOL

Has anyone stayed in one of the six Penthouse Suites located forward on the Sun Deck (S109 - S115)? They are currently classified as S4, but starting November 15, 2021 they will become S6 "Vista Suites." The indicated floor plan seems to change from a separate sleeping area to one large sleeping/living area. The cabin square footage is almost identical after the change to the Riveria Deck suites (S4), though the balconies appear to be larger on the Sun Deck suites. I cannot find any reviews or images of these Sun Deck suites. I can't imagine that they will actually be redesigning these suites (as the cabin width would have to change), but rather just reclassifying.

Just searched and saw your post.  I am wondering about those same cabins on the Enchanted Princess.  Looking for pictures of room/balcony.  Did you find anything out that you would like to share?  Thanks.

We were in an aft penthouse suite on the Dec 10 sailing and there were a couple of days where the the soot/ash was noticeable on the railing and decking. Our balcony (Baja deck) had a larger overhang so it really did not get on our deck furniture too much. There were a couple of days where the room stewards were doing a thorough cleaning of the aft balconies. There were several days where it was very windy at sea, with gusts of 30-40 knots at times, and I think that helped to push the soot down onto the aft balconies. Definitely not a deal breaker if we were ever upgraded again to one of the these suites.

Were you able to get pictures of the balcony and room number?  We were wondering if the bedroom also has sliding glass doors and how much of the balcony is covered and whether people can look down or up at you.  Thanks for your help.

  6. Has anyone stayed in any of these suites on the Enchanted Princess or Sky Princess?  I am looking for pictures of the room and balcony.  Especially S109 and S110 (are those balconies larger?) AND are they fully covered or can people look up or down on you? Are they too windy to use when at sea or are they like other balconies on the side of the ship.  Being so forward, just curious.  Also wondering if the bedroom is separate and has a sliding glass door too.  Thanks so much for your help and any pictures you can share.  It is right below the Sanctuary, so I assume it will be quiet???  Someone shared the balcony pic of S112 and it looked nice!  Mar

Sure thing. We were on Dophin D736 and the balcony was indeed covered. It was delightful! We love a good aft balcony!

Nothing better than watching and listening to the wake while having a cocktail, especially at night.  The large aft covered balconies in the mini and suites on the new ships seem to be non-existent anymore.  Appreciate the photos.  Ship looks in good condition too.

I believe it was Oscar Perego. At least that was the dining room "official" who had a bottle of wine sent to our stateroom after we showed up to Club Class dining one evening and there was no table available. Apparently that is unheard of was considered a major staff faux pas. We were happy to wait, but the dining room entrance personnel began flipping out! After a brief hullabaloo and whirlwind of waitstaff flittering about, apologies abounded and a bottle of wine was proffered. And we ended up seated in a different section, which was fine with us.

This reminds me, we still need to write about the sham Club Class dining is...  Thanks!

Thanks!  We did Club Class one time and we preferred traditional dining room.  We liked having the same waiter/assistant waiter and getting to know them.  They also knew us and what we liked and had it ready!:classic_biggrin:  Do you have any pictures of your suite and the balcony?  We are looking for a larger balcony covered aft.  Mini suite or suite.  Cheers!

Room was S112.  There is an overhang from the deck above (deck #18) which is the upper deck of The Retreat.  There are glass walls surrounding that deck area, so even if the deck wasn’t overhanging, no one can look over.   I was actually surprised how few public areas there were (on the whole ship) to look over a deck railing.  BA3E4A3E-9F9A-4916-81B1-D02907A0060F.thumb.jpeg.b9017b3a83d9e31e6445da51aaa70b10.jpeg

I just looked and saw that it at the front of the ship.  Is it windy up there on sea days?  My BIL said they stayed in a suite at the front and it was not usable when the ship was at sea as it is too windy.    Any pictures of the inside of the room?  Wondering if there is a separate bedroom with balcony doors too?  Thanks.  Sorry for all the questions.  Loved the picture.

Thank you.  It looks like it is fully covered and no one below either!  About how big do you think the balcony is? 5 x 9??

You do not want a cabin under the pool deck because the crew cleans the pool deck starting around 4 am, sounds like someone is running a cannon across the deck above you.   Same thing not under the buffet, you will have food smells like garlic to content with.

Boy are you on the ball!  I never even thought of that.  Thank you.

The M107 balcony is not covered. Depending on the time of day, there is some shade. There is a sliding door. You can't really go out there when you are out to sea it's much too windy. But, it's a great place for a sail away party as you steam from port. We entertained about 40 people out there and had a blast.

The only downside is it's a bit of hike to the rest of the ship as you are all the forward. Also, if it gets choppy or rough you will feel it up there. But, it's an extremely spacious cabin with a separate bedroom and living room. Book it, you won't be sorry.

The first 2 minutes or so of this video includes some footage of the cabin and balcony.

Jonathan, thanks so much for the info and video as it was very helpful! Mary

We stayed in spectacular mini-suite M107 on Regal this past October for the New England/Canada run.

Terrific spacious cabin with separate living room and bedroom. Glorious, massive, private bridge wing balcony affords commanding views of ports and seas. A great spot for our Cruise Critic Sail Away.

We have the same cabin booked for this coming September. Can barely wait to get back there. It is now a Club Class Mini-Suite so that should be interesting.

    These mini-suites located forward like M107, M108 L107, L108 are very unique.

It's been awhile, hoping you can remember...Are these balconies covered?  Is there shade.  Also, does it have a sliding door?  Is it usable when at sea or is it too windy.  Any pics would be great. Thanks.

We are having the best time on the Regal Princess!  After a dining snafu the first night of our B2B, we have been spoiled by so many people!  My question is - do we tip the Maitre d?  We have never made acquaintance with one before but Nicola has been outstanding!!  Always stopping by to check on us at dinner, chatting about upcoming ports and acknowledging us about the ship when we are masked. He has sent bottles of wine and other goodies to us.
I do not want to commit a faux pas by extending a tip but we want him to know how much we appreciate his generosity and attention.
    Help!!  Thanks

So glad you are having a great time.  Nicola is an outstanding Maitre D!  We would definitely tip.  Tell him Mary & Gordie from the last cruise in 2020 on the Crown before covid started to rear its ugly head.  He got my husband, who had cancer, a table in the corner and a table for 2.  We truly appreciated his efforts as we were on for 30 days.  Please tell him hello for us.  He actually trained many of the Maitr' D's like Generossa, who also is outstanding.

I got off Enchanted yesterday and, based on some of the questions,  I thought I would share some of what I experienced...

OVERALL:  I'm feeling very grateful.  We had a wonderful trip! We stopped at every island as planned.  It was above and beyond our expectations.  I can't stress enough how everyone on the crew was nothing but kind, accommodating, and doing their best to make sure we had a great experience, despite the challenging circumstances.  And when I say 'challenging', in my opinion, it's not about me having to wear a mask or not knowing exactly how many positive cases are onboard (which I think is fundamentally impossible).  Challenging is what the crew goes thru, mostly behind the scenes,  to make sure the passengers are as safe as possible.  Without getting on a soap box, my hope is that if you decide to cruise, you can... be kind, be considerate, be respectful, be understanding.  We know very little about what others are going thru.

NEG TEST:  we took a PCR test 2 days prior and didn't get results before getting to the ship.  We were directed to a door, not far from the boarding area, for a free (we showed proof we hadn't gotten results) test.   Super easy and quick.

CABIN UPGRADE:  I went to Guest Services as soon as I got onboard to get on the list for a paid upgrade.  I was told it would be at least 40 hours before (the main office) would release the cabins to process the upgrades.  Day 3, I checked again and my timing was fortunate..  I was able to go from an Aft Balcony to a Vista Suite, for $120/day ($60 per person) for a total of $840 for the remaining 7 days.

EXPECTATIONS:  If you've been a cruiser, you might have certain expectations.  Keep an open mind and pack your patience.  It's likely you'll wait at the buffet for assistance.  It's possible you won't see your favorite activity on the schedule.  We packed books and games and REALLY enjoyed...no lines getting on and off the ship, being able to sit side-by-side at the dinner table as there was plenty of space,  being able to attend a Winemakers dinner, an open lounger by the pool at 10am on a sea day...and the list goes on.  I was told capacity was ~ 38%.

PORTS:  I feel incredibly lucky that we could stop at every island we were scheduled for.  Most places required a temperature check and/or hand sanitation. Taxi drivers asked us to hold out our hands for a squirt.  Some places gave us a wrist band to wear.  Masks were required and nearly every local we saw (adult, children) was wearing a mask.  The only place we took off our masks was at the beach.  Not a big deal and it made sense.

EXCURSIONS:  I rarely book a ship excursion and was happy I could continue that plan and get off at each port.  Most islands offered plenty of opportunity for tours and taxis.

I know things are changing on a daily basis, so it's awesome that people are posting live updates.  I also feel like so much of what's in the news and social boards about cruising seems a bit dramatic and fear-based.   If you are debating, use common sense, try and stick with facts (if possible) and go with your gut.   The book I was reading on the cruise had a meaningful quote...."It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."  (Henry David Thoreau)

Hi, could you post the vista suite number and take photos of the room and balcony.  Wondering if the balcony is covered or if people can see you from up above or down below.  Thanks!

We had them on our last two cruises. Both were just before the shutdown. I like to keep a couple in the refrigerator to make disembarkation lounge Mimosas. The did run out of them though in most bars by the end of the last cruise.

Thank you and good to know!  You always know so much.  Happy Thanksgiving!
