I have requested atd for the first time out of 37 cruises. Since we are doing specialty dining 3 nights I didn't think it would be fair to other diners and staff to not be at the table so many nights. Please explain how it works. What are the hours? What are the peak hours? How long is the wait? Do I need a reservation? Is the service as attentive as fixed dining? How do I tipped extra if the service is exceptional? Thanks in advance for your answers.

I wouldn't have lived to see Cuba if I went up there.

The Holiday had a top optional deck on my first cruise n 96. The wife said I wasn't allowed up there.

For those who don't enjoy tea, they will bring coffee on request. It might not be a classic high tea experience, but it is very nice, white gloves and all. Much better than the way Carnival does it.

Hide the firearms and the wife's extensive jewelry collection in case of burglary. Also notify the credit card companies so your card is not declined abroad.

It gets fancier on longer cruises where the demographic is older.

I love it when the ship rocks and rolls.

Btw, that is a great cruise. On a great ship.

Take your luggage tags down to the pursers desk and ask for an earlier time. I have done this several times and no problem.

White house Carnival now substitutes for legitimate entertainment.

What they serve is not huevos rancheros. Not even close. Classic huevos rancheros is a corn tortilla topped with beans topped with fried egg topped with salsa topped with ranchero cheese topped with avocado slices. What they serve might be tasty but it is not huevos rancheros.

They are very easy to make. My Slovak grandma taught me how. We call them palacinka. Best with apricot jam.

What time would you say is best to get to the port?

It just ice cream with meringue. If you ask for a volcano they will bringyou the biggest sundae you ever saw. It's from the kids menu.

Occasionally I get vertigo. Meclizine works great but makes me sleepy. Very sleepy, but it is better than vertigo.

If you lose your card they ban you from the buffet for one hour. Almost killed me.

My daughter is mobility impaired. We learned something interesting about excursions on our August cruise.

 

If there is something that you are interested in but it says "high activity' date='" go to the excursion desk and see if you can talk to a crew member who has done it. Often the entertainers go on excursions to evaluate them. They are not always as limited as the descriptions might imply. For instance, we wanted to do an excursion that involved seeing monkeys at the top of a mountain. We found out that it was listed as "strenuous" because there was a long stairway going up the mountain. BUT for $1, we could ride a tram up and down. The tram was not included in the excursion cost, but it took the activity level down to almost nothing--we could walk around as much or as little as we chose at the top.

 

On another excursion, we visited 3 sites. 2 were totally easy, the third involved a lot of walking and stairs. We knew in advance that the third site wouldn't be a possibility but we chose to book and enjoy the other two sites. And we actually found out that there was plenty to do and see at the bus parking area without doing the long, difficult walk with the guide at the third.

In and Out has nothing to worry about.

Depending on where you are coming from the weather will either be nice or lousy. If you are coming from Minnesota it will be wonderful. If you are coming from Florida it will be cool. Either way it will not be tropical. Probably in the 60s. I would expect everyone to be in a festive mood. I would expect some folks to be merry making. Sorry for your loss. I know how that hurts.

So true. This is how my relative gets their free cruise. He spends so much time and money in the casino though.

Of course they are everyone needs more $$$$.$$ so let's just do it and don't make a big thing about it. If we didn't have a boatload of $$$.$$ we wouldn't be cruising right ???????

Bingo! If you can't afford the tip you can't afford to cruise. Don't be so stingy. You can't take it with you. We have worked hard and have made good, we like to spread it around.
