  1. We were GTY suite with balcony last year for a segment of 41 days on the Quest world cruise. No suite until 1 day ahead of boarding. They had us in 502. I don't know if you realize that some balconies on deck 5 become smaller from about 510 forward. 502 is greatly diminished. We were not happy and their solution was to buy higher. Fortunately we got a cabin with full balcony as another guest upgraded. I was unaware of the balcony disappearing act and furthermore had it in my mind that I would be treated extremely well since I was sailing for 41 nights. I was wrong. I'm only relating this so that you won't find yourself in the same position. Maybe TA can check.

  2. We've taken one Seabourn cruise, 41 days from Singapore to Venice in 2013. Had many of the same questions you have. We loved it mainly because of the fantastic itinerary. The ship is a pleasure although a little too modern in decor for my taste. Food and service excellent. The reason I am posting, however is to advise that all V1 cabins are NOT the same. Look at the deck plan and you will see that the forward 4 cabins on each side on deck 5 have a decreasing balcony. I would not have been happy in 502 where we were originally placed for 41 nights. We moved to 514 which was fine. A long cruise remains exciting as long as the itinerary in front of you is exciting. Hope you enjoy your eventual choice!

  3. We were on the same cruise with Lyn and While I'm sure her comments are valid I thought I should throw in our two cents worth. We LOVED the specialty restaurants. Every one was special. The duck and watermelon salad with the miso sea bass was fantastic. The Dover sole in Jacques fantastic. We love the ambiance of Polo, also the food. We also ate in La Reserve and I would say if you schedule the gourmet meal you have high expectations, maybe too high. We were a little disappointed there. I would recommend the discovery choice (although I didn't have it!). Service was great in all specialty restaurants. We only ate once in the GDR and it was just Ok. Terrace and waves very good, service also. No cruise is perfect but the Riviera is great!

  4. Hi All,

We're looking at this Mariner cruise and thinking about rough water. Clearly, there are many cruises scheduled both in the Carribean during this time frame and TAs. I have also researched the last 3 years of storms. They do crop up during this period but not like August and September. Most storms start pretty much right out of Senegal where we will be in late Oct. and then head west to develop, or not. Any words of wisdom from experienced TA cruisers? I've checked the roll call and there is a little, but not much, discussion about this. Thanks in advance.
