  1. Back in the dim, dark days of my youth (when dinosaurs roamed the earth) I always had a bottle opener/corkscrew/can opener thingie in my handbag.  LOL I learnt to be prepared!  It was perfect for opening any bottle of booze at anytime/anywhere.  I was always popular whenever any of us were on a picnic or at a party ... remember parties????  *sigh*

Think I still have it ... it would be somewhere in the long grass at the back of the gadget drawer in the kitchen I suspect.  Oh, the good old days. 🍷

I'll assume you also like the movie "Waiting for Guffman"?

Did you get my quote from that movie?

Post 431. A Eugene Levy line.

    Norris

One of my favourite movies.  I love the 'overture' for the show.  So surprising in the context of it all.

Having been coerced into joining in a couple of amateur theatricals in my long ago youth I can totally get the "waiting for" thing.  LMFO, many of them thought they were the next Broadway star.  Sadly they weren't.  But it was fun and that's what life is about isn't it?  Having fun.

Looking forward to Dublin through the eye of your camera Norris.

  3. Yes I agree OzKiwiJJ ... Tuesdays I'm busy with grandie duty - and that 3 year old would never let me sit and watch a podcast (or whatever it's called).  Noon is lunchtime and "I'm hungry!!!"  So we'll be busy making lunch!  Gawd help me ... and cleaning up "her" mess.

If I register, will I still be able to watch it later that evening or would I have missed it altogether?  And hey, what about the people who are working?  When could they watch it?

LOL it will probably be some "talking head" waffling on ad nauseum.  Maybe I could catch it on Youtube later? 🙄

  4. Aaaaah, Mars Bars, haven't had one in ages.  You've all inspired me to go searching  on the web for a Mars Bar slice.  Used to make one years ago when daughter was having little birthday parties.  I remember it needed 3 cups of Rice Bubbles but can't remember what other quantities.  Much nicer than chocolate crackles!

We've got the grandkids for a sleepover next Saturday so I'm thinking an activity for them will be to make a Mars Bar Slice.  They both love "chollet" (as the just turned 3 years calls it) and they both love Rice Bubbles.  LOL something to take home to Mum and Dad ... Mum will love it I know.

    Thank you for the inspiration.

  5. Yes Lyle, "manure" does tend to mess up the best laid plans of men ... and whatever.  Best to you and Lynn.  Hope she can have a wee bit of a celebration with you later.

*sigh* Still locked down here ... it's now official, longest lockdown in the world!  And there's no sign of it ending anytime soon.

Sorry, but I needed to vent my frustration a little --- sorry to rain on the parade cruisers.

Now let's see if CC will let me post this?  Nope?  Not looking possible

  6. Brandee, our SIL's aunt travelled to an "ashram" somewhere in California in January 2020.  She's still there and hasn't been able to get home.  She's a single lady, in her early 70s and definitely not a millionaire so has been unable to get a reasonably priced flight home.  I understand she's doing OK and the family are hoping she will be able to get on a flight home this coming Nov/Dec or even January 2022.

As an aside ... she's pretty tough and resilient.  She was in India doing her meditation/new age stuff and was staying at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai at the time of that terrorist attack.  She managed to escape through a window and down a fire escape into an alleyway during the shooting and was helped to safety by a group of locals.  LOL the family thinks she's an airy fairy new agey vegan nut case, but I reckon she's a survivor.  Hopefully she gets home.

I'm not sure whether you can do it complete by ship from Oz. Do your trip via Canada we are not all bent out of shape about Cuba like the US is. Canadians have been traveling to and from Cuba for over 40 years.

Mmmm, I've always wanted to visit Canada too.  Thanks for the suggestion Lyle.

Joanna Lumley did a "Hidden Caribbean" series where she visited Cuba and Haiti which was shown on the ABC here in Oz.  It was very interesting but I think it's no longer available on iView unfortunately.

  8. Cuba for me ... but on a cruise.  Sailing out of Oz across the Tasman - eventually through the Panama Canal and on to Cuba.  Nope no way will I fly to the US to get there.  Just think ... Havana - a ride in those 'classic' cars, is 'Sloppy Joe's' still there?  And the music!  Buena Vista Social Club stuff - dance,  drinkin' rum and coca cola, gosh, I might even have a go at a Cuban cigar!!!!  I know that Cuba's infrastructure is pretty much falling down, but it's a country that has always fascinated me.

So one last trip ... Cuba Libre for me!

  9. Sheesh .... here I go again.  Yep, I'm double vaxxed against Covid (as is DH) but guess where we're going tomorra?  Yep back to our Clinic for another jab!  This time for Shingles.  S-I-L popped in during a Facetime father's day chat with the grandies to suggest we get a Shingles jab ... he is suffering from Shingles and ... being a bloke ... is in agony!  Understandable, so jab for us tomorra.

Maybe someone could turn this jab after jab after jab ... etc., into a comedy routine?  Maybe a whole Broadway musical?  Who knows.

Sorry, the drama queen in me just escaped.  I'll shut up now.

  10. Like I always say ... you've gotta be tough to live in Melbourne.

LOL I remember many years ago we had family from England visiting in January.  A couple of days after their arrival we had a barbie for them in the backyard with extended family.  Well, they were loving the heat (it was about 35 deg C and a dry heat) and were wearing their bathers and jumping in and out of the pool and lying out in the sun and getting burnt to a crisp.  All the Aussie family members were sitting in the shade LOL.

Over night we had one of our famous Melbourne 'cool' changes (more like an Antarctic blast!).  The next day we took them down to Sorrento and across on the ferry to Queenscliffe.  They were shivering and moaning that they were freezing.  We were out in shorts and tshirts enjoying the crisp breezes.  Us Melbourne people can adapt to anything! 😏

Wont have long to wait to find out. Tomorrow?

Now that's the answer to "Who's the pitcher .... No, Who is on first" that famous old Abbot and Costello routine.  Who is on first, What is on second, I Dunno is on third and ... Tomorra is the pitcher."

If you don't know the routine, here it is ....

Yep, time for us all to calm down and have a laugh.  Warning everyone, this thread is moving to be removed (politics and all that jazz).  No I will not report.  Just settle down and have a laugh ... or if you don't, a mental breakdown might ensue!

  12. Well, you're all better detectives than I.  I've checked the Book of Faces and for the life of me cannot find this person.  All I get are academics or mini politicians from "another" country.  Gawd forbid I'm labelled a racist on here if I mention this particular sub continent.   🙄

But I must say, Uncle Les, reckon you've won the money on this one.  It's gotta be that one of "Many Names on CC".   😉
