  1. Did anyone find out for sure about name changes? I booked onboard last week and the third person is my son or daughter (not sure yet of the gender). The agent made me put a name down instead of 'baby' so I just made one up. Now I understand why he wanted a name, although he never mentioned this policy. Guess this will be a cancellation if it's true. On the phone now, well on hold now.

  2. I liked Carnival while I was in college and for a few years after, but I now prefer Royal as I like to relax a little more and drink a little less. I think the Carnival pool areas are more fun if you are in a party mood. I'm sure as I get older, I will probably move on to Celebrity and think Royal has too much partying.

As for food, I really don't notice a difference unless I eat at a specialty restaurant. The entertainment is much better on Royal, but just my opinion.

  3. Yeah, I understand the privacy thing, but what about saying that item is no longer available for that cabin. Nothing disclosed there

My wife and I had our honeymoon on Allure and we had chocolate covered strawberries the first 3 days of our cruise, all gifts from friends of ours. At least Royal was smart enough to deliver on different days and not all at once.

    OBC, it is.

  4. My friends are going on their honeymoon in a few weeks on Oasis and I called CS about buying something off the gifts and gear menu for them. I have their reservation number and I had no problem being able to purchase something, but they won't tell me if something has already been bought. I don't want them to get two of someting.

I understand about privacy, but you should be told if something you are buying will be a duplicate item---maybe just steer you in a different direction.

  5. Can somebody explain why Royal doesn't show you obc on your reservation online. I know you can email them and ask for your invoice, which will show it, but why can't you just look online.

I have a few refer a friend obc's coming plus a ncc that I wanted to make sure are all there.

Looks like I either have to call and hold or email and wait for a response. Would be much easier to log in and see it under your reservation.

  6. you have to play a lot in the casino to even get rated, and even then, the comps are very hard to come by. If you play slots, it's even worse, I play the same amount on a cruise or in Vegas---one place, I get my rooms and beverages for free, the other, I might get $10-20 back.

My wife says the wine is pretty bad, but I thought they changed it since our last sailing.

  7. I am looking at a 7 day Allure cruise. For this cruise, my wife and I will have a 13 month old, my wife's parents and their son. Typically, he would stay in the same cabin as them, but with this promotion, I could put him in a cabin with me, then a cabin for my wife and child and another cabin for her parents. Is it okay to move into the wife's cabin and have 2 adults and a child in there, leaving brother in law with his own? The discount works really well for getting a third cabin instead of cramming into two, but I'm not sure if the room steward will be okay with us having an extra person (a tiny 13 month old) in the room... Thoughts...

  8. As other people have pointed out, if RCCL paid its service people the same as Australia pays its service people, you would be paying the $400 anyways---it would just be included in the cost of your higher priced cabin. Either way, those people are going to get paid a fair wage---through tips or through an hourly wage---but both options would be paid by the cruiser somehow.

  9. I have some friends who are going on RC for the first time and they had no clue about any themed nights or formal nights. I asked if they were getting dressed up for formal night and they both looked at me with shock. They still aren't bringing anything more than jeans, but at least now they know there are other options that night.

I think a lot of people book a vacation with no homework at all, especially a cruise, where all you really need is a passport and a credit card.

  10. I have never really thought about it because it feels peaceful while walking through it, but with 6000 people on every sailing, I guess you will get a few bad people who might be looking for an oppurunity. While I don't feel the need to walk my wife to her cabin if I'm staying in the casino, I usually do just to be nice (not for safety).

I would say, just be aware of your surroundings.
