Did some research.....we only need an evisa for two countries.....Vietnam and Cambodia.....easy to do on the computer and print out.....

I guess you could just stay on the ship and not get off.....but not for us....want to see some of the culture....

No Cambodia evisa is only good for air entry, does not apply for seaport entry let the ship do it.  For Vietnam easy to get yourself.  Also Visas are necessary whether you get off ship or not.

This will be my first time on Holland America, specifically on Rotterdam.

    1. I am confused about the availability of self serve drinks on Lido, I have read about disappointment in the length of time getting a beverage with your meal, I am hoping that there is availability of self serve. I bring my own thermal glass to drink water, juice and lemonade.

    2. I always avoid Lido for embarkation lunch. Will other venues on Rotterdam be open for lunch on that day? We do have Club Orange, but I think that dining room is only open for breakfast and dinner?

    3. I read that I cannot bring cans of soda on board. But in looking at what I can preorder for my stateroom, every beverage except soda can be pre ordered. My cruise is a year out, maybe they will add this option at a later date? I did not purchase the Have it all package, we are not heavy drinkers. I drink mostly water, maybe one can of soda, maybe one alcoholic drink per day. My husband likes one maybe two beers a day. So it did not seem to be a good value for us.

We purchased our sodas and drinks during happy hour.  We purchase extra sodas during happy hour to bring back to our cabin.

We get 25% off purchases from the bar in the cabin as 3*.  Since I drink mostly diet coke can I have the bar stocked with just that or is it a standard setup that the ship chooses?

I purchase pop during happy hour for the room.  Sometimes I purchase six cans at a time.

    That's only $16.52 per day!!!

Yes, quite the deal.  For us if we drink we only purchase during happy hour and not every day   Our bar bill for a cruise this length would probably be close to $300.00 for two people.   So for us no deal however for people who would like to drink even 2 to 3 drinks per day might be a good deal.

Elliot died in 2020!  LIke many things related to HAL, this post is somewhat dated.   We always found him a delightful entertainer.

@Hlitner Elliot Finkel was a guest entertainer on our 2023 Grand South America cruise.  He was very much alive at that time.  I believe his brother passed away in 2020.

In a slap in the face to all of us who worked to earn priority boarding through the mariner program or who pay for a neptune suite it now seems like casino guests are given priority boarding in addition to their steeply discounted or free fares! This was at our embarkation today in Copenhagen and resulted in combining the typical priority boarding with Casino guests in one line for check in.

We embarked Copenhagen as well yesterday.  Could not believe that sign.

Wonderful report. May I share your post with our Roll Call group?

Sure, I was just counting the time I embarked in Vancouver, over 18 times.  We always get their early, between 9:30 and 9:45 am.  They open security to scan the luggage at 10:00am. We are always through the hoops within a half hour, we do wait to board most times but at least we are sitting and not standing in lines for over an hour or two.  We just sit and chat with fellow passengers so times goes by quickly.

Canada Place - Sept 17 - 9,266 expected arriving and departing passengers to handle - which makes a possible total nearly 20,000 to pass in and out that day?  Let alone any crew transfers.

    ---Viking Orion - 930

    ---Celebrity Eclipse - 3420

    ---Noordam - 2366

    ---Brilliance of the Seas -2580

Are these other ships loading up for another Alaska run, or taking their ships back on repositioning cruises to warmer waters?  Maybe they will not be fully booked. Noordam is loading up for a 14 day last Alaska run on that day, so it is fully booked.

Come on, Canada Place. I know you are now up to this. Which docks will get assigned will be another interesting factor at what looks like the  close of the 2023 Alaska cruise season.

We come back to Vancouver Canada Place two weeks later, when we share port with only the Nieuw Amsterdam, as we continue on down the Pacific Coast.

We were on the Westerdam Embarking Vancouver on September 30th, 2018.  The Norwegian Bliss was in Vancouver that day, over 4,000 capacity and another ship I forget which one.  Anyhow they had early check in time for us that day.  We actually boarded by the ship by 10:30 am but we were advised that rooms not ready until 11:30am.  We could go up to Lido to eat we just waited in the atrium until the MDR opened for lunch. They had anticipated a crazy busy day.

That is Canadian Dollars (Not USD) as the option to pre pay is quoted in the currency of booking.  This is an opportunity to get a good rate of exchange and save a few dollars.

I prepaid for our Grand South America I worked it out to an HAL exchange rate of 1.27 when the going rate was 1.35 so the rate they provided to Canadians  was pretty competitive.

So I booked a 2024 Eurodam cruise in Dec. 2022, with full refundable deposit, and now ready to make final payment.  I assume that the fare and insurance costs will be as quoted by my HAL agent; but should I ask about promos and perks, and changes available now?  The only promo offer from HAL, during the past year, has been the "have it all" deal, which I do not want.  Maybe HAL reps.volunteer this info🤥  golfbagger

Maybe do a dummy booking, log into the HAL site and select your cruise, to see if the price has gone down.
