  1. Last year we were on the Epic for a January birthday in the MDR. Then on the Getaway for an October birthday at Cagney's. Both times we let the staff know ahead of time. They bring a nice cake for the table and of coarse sing. It was festive.

We also got the birthday decorations for the cabin they did as a suprise while we were out.

  2. I like the whimsical magnets. The kind with springs to make them bob. They have been in the ports. I used to get the coffee mugs when they were smaller. Now they are too large for me. They take up too much room on my shelves. Also I like ornaments.

  3. An important tip the room steward did not tell us about on NCL. (We were on the Breakaway last week.) If you have a balcony cabin, the main handle says to pull down to lock the door. This does not actually lock the door from the outside. There is a separate lock at the top of the balcony door that really locks it where someone can not access your room from the outside. My sister had one of the angled balcony cabins. Because of the angle, it is very easy to hop over the railing onto the neighbor's balcony.

The college age men in the room next door did this very thing and stole all of the booze from my sister's minibar. Thank goodness she had her diamond ring and electronics locked in the safe.

The ship tried to charge her the $127 of the alcohol, but eventually reversed the charges after several hours of us hassling with upper management.

Lesson learned…make double sure, your balcony door is locked so no one from outside can access your room.

I think balcony rail hopping is why it's no longer "legal" to open the balcony divider even with connecting rooms.
