Thanks for posting the pictures of the senior officers. I am always interested in seeing who is in charge, and I recognize several of them from our previous cruises. Special congratulations to Captain Kevin, after sailing with him many times as Staff Captain.

Quick question as I am sailing NCL soon for the first time. What do the symbols mean next to each entree?
Go all the way down to the bottom of the menus and you will see. One is for vegetarian, one is for gluten-free and one is for spicy.

Enjoying your reports this week very much. I know you went back an hour last night when you left Halifax. I am guessing you will need to go back another hour tonight for the end of Daylight Saving Time. Unless you went back 2 hours last night.

Will look forward to your reports as we are doing the same itinerary on February 6th. Is there any way to modify the title of the thread to say 2023?

Hey @PistolPete13 I was enjoying your pictures and commentary. I hope the only reason you have not posted in almost 24 hours is that you are too busy having a good time.

No excursion tomorrow, guess we'll have are walking shoes.
Here is something that has never happen before, our excursion today was never discounted, latitudes perk. Inquiring at the desk tonight they said we had to ask for it, never had to before?
That’s very interesting because we have to ask for it every time. Never gets applied automatically, whether we book online, via the app, via the kiosk, etc.

We cruised many times with Chief Engineer Anders Nadal on the Breakaway. He would say that when he was onboard, that was the only time the Breakaway would have a Norwegian crew member.

Thank You for sharing. I am curious as to the protocol.
Were you under any mask restrictions when released from the 5-day isolation?
Were you tested at the end of the 5-day isolation?
If you had been tested positive, would you have been isolated another 5-days?
THANKS for any insight.
I was kind of surprised when we were released by the infectious disease officer that there was no discussion of restrictions of any kind. My wife and I did wear masks for the rest of the cruise, which was only about 18 hours.
Our isolation officially ended Monday afternoon. We had been tested Sunday afternoon and again Monday morning - both negative.
If we had tested positive either time, I had already been assured we would be disembarking the ship Tuesday morning in NY. Perhaps with more restrictions than we had, which was none.

Did Oceania provide the Paxlovid?
Yes. At $800 for each of us. The other medical treatment (tests, phone calls, room visits) was complimentary.

My wife and I were also on the 7/12 sailing of Insignia and also both tested positive for COVID at the end of it. However, since we were doing B2B cruises, we spent from Wednesday 7/20 through midday Monday 7/25 isolated in our cabin, taking Paxlovid. Fortunately we were in one of the Owner’s Suites, so we had plenty of room and a nice, large balcony.

AR & RJ - yes, we are going to keep in touch for sure. Here's that Getaway Semi-Live from March 2022 - https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2840868-getaway-semi-live-limited-ny-florida-pc-gsc-nassau-3272022/
Just in case you are thinking about using those NCL certs (ours "were" extended from 2023 to 2025 by NCL automatically earlier this year, although we just used them all up ... so, picked up more this past week, in case there's another DoubeUp promo soon/again) - we decided to break our own rules & "early" book on the GA next January to the Carib's for 12 days (out of NY) These are new ports to us (aside from PR & USVI) - should be a good one - despite the uncertainly with warnings of another surge, etc.) First, we got some tough choices & decisions to make for September "Joy" ... now that we've experienced non-H Joy suite lives, kinda missed the real balcony - will write up a bit more shortly.
There're some B2B on the Joy this week, saw room stewards moving luggage down the corridor as we made our way AFT for a quicker priority "exit" to the gangway - he's on almost every other cruise, if not B2B and with some of the NCL promos & deals, he's definitely doing good scoring his way to being honorary Master of the Vessel or equivalent.
Henry, thanks for your work this week. We will be doing B2B on the Joy in September (9/1 and 9/6). Perhaps we will run into you.
My sense is you never got to meet Patrick Berido, the concierge. I would like to email him to see if he will be still onboard in September. Each NCL ship has a unique 2 or 3 digit code used in its email addresses. I know the email address for the Joy's concierge will be conxx@ncl.com or conxxx@ncl.com. If you got an officer's card at some point during the cruise, his/her email address was probably listed, including that 2 or 3 digit code. If you don't want to post it here, perhaps you could email it to me at eichorns at aol dot com. Thanks very much.

We had Patrick as suite concierge on the Dawn repo one year. He was excellent!
Enjoy your cruise. I love your suite. Something to think about.
So many familiar names. I will let Henry report if any are on the Joy now. As far as I know, Deepak and Nomita are on the Encore (GM and Asst GM) and Kivanc and Alvin are on the Escape (GM and CD).

That’s great. Thank you. If you can get the names of the top hotel department officers, that would be even better. Never been on the Jewel, but on the Gem there is a video screen with their pictures on deck 12 just forward of the pool, near the library.

Bummer, no BTS tours, no Dine with Officers or Wine Tasting, but going stop there to get a gift - likely OBC, plus another Sapphire pin, gave mine away from last month.
Lunch at The Local, food was good but service chaotic with the rush. Stopped at Joy Theater to check in for our Muster drill station. Will find out whether shows are on or not ...
Upgraded to unlimited basic WiFi, $110 for the 7 nights, credited $100 for my 150 free minutes. Not stopping at Norfolk, might as well get this to stay connected. Cisco WiFi router right in our living room, nice - that should do it.
Patrick Berido is the conciergeHenry, thanks so much for doing this again. We who are at home very much appreciate it. Patrick is our very favorite concierge and we sailed with him many times on the Breakaway, Gem and Escape. Please tell him Victor and Nancy Eichorn from NY say hello. We will be on the Joy for B2B on 9/1 and 9/6. I wonder if he knows if he will be on then. Maybe you could ask. Thank you again.

Excellent detective work. Must be a picture from quite a while ago. Looks like an old Holland America Line ship at pier 90.

So wonderful to see the Latitudes party (with officers) and the Dine With an Officer back again. Hope they are back for our April 25 crossing on the Escape. (We hope the Escape is back by then, too. ). Thanks for your great reporting, Henry. Looking forward to sailing the rest of the week with you.

Richard Janicki also has that title. We met Richard when he was Hotel Director on the Gem in 2017.
We also met Klaus on the Encore last September. Since then he, Richard and Jenny have all been very helpful to us.

Was Puerto Plata cancelled, or did they reshuffle the cruise ports again?
Puerto Plata was cancelled because they want to get us back to NY ahead of a storm that will hit the area Thursday night. The plan is to dock sometime late Thursday and then do normal turnaround Friday.

Hope you have a great time. Have been on the Escape 6 times out of NY. Would be interested in knowing the names of as many of the senior officers as you can find out, as well as the name of the concierge.

Testing is at pier 88, ship is at pier 90.
Actually, it is the other way around. Pretty short walk between the two.

Unless I can’t count, which is possible, it appears to be “only” 6 days at sea, at least for now.

Thank you. Much appreciated. If, at the Meet and Greet, they gave you a card with the names of the Hotel Department officers, would you please post that as well? Thanks and enjoy the rest of your cruise.
