  1. Thanks you @StopTheWorld, my embarkment process is much quicker than in Yokohama. From Kyoto to cruise terminal took under 90 min, 30 min time to get onboard.
  2. Hiroshima port authority uses both wharfs for cruise ships, no permanent fixture. You need to prepare plan A and B. I will be in Hiroshima in 2 days, see which wharf we will use.
  3. I am on Celebrity Millennium now in Osaka. No pass for Haruka, buy single way, cheaper rate for tourist. I usually purchase the ticket thru KKLOOK website, get a redeem voucher, or you purchase at Kix airport train station (present your passport).
  4. I joined the ship in Kobe this morning. Photo of Haruka express. I will take the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kix to fly home. Will post the Shinkansen photos.
  5. This morning took the limited express train to Kobe then transfer portliner metro to cruise terminal. There are 6 passengers boarding in Kobe and the ship only 2200 passengers. Took 30 min to have my luggage onboard, received sea pass cards. Kobe weather is hot and humid, sit on the loop bus to go around. Onboard restaurant serving Japan beef, can’t compare with the Kobe beef I had.
  6. Have you thought about your jet lag? For option 2, travel from Yokohama to Kyoto will take you half a day, so you will have less time in Kyoto.
  7. Live from Kyoto, I was stuck in Kyoto for a week because Shinkansen shutdown, I am leaving to Kobe to board the ship instead of Yokohama. Is overcrowded with tourists and traffic problem in Kyoto and Gion area. Was 33C with high humidity, weather was not on tourist side.
  8. I always fly to Osaka (KIX) less traffic than Haneda and Narita. Ride Haruka express to Kyoto (90 min) stay there till embarkment day, ride Shinkansen to shin-Yokohama and transfer to Kanni station and taxi to cruise terminal (one mile). Cost of living in Kyoto is cheaper than Yokohama and Tokyo.
  9. Thanks @villauk May be I should act like a replacement crew. Kyoto station will go crazy tomorrow because Shinkansen resume operation. Went to Ginkakuji (silver temple) and Philosopher’s Path (I am brain death) saw Hokkaido green house cantaloupes selling 3900 yen each, wonder if the ship stock any??
  10. Shinkansen resume operation on 2nd Sept., however, expect full capacity for several due to backlog. Don’t know will impact cruisers planning to Kyoto on 3-4th Sept., very hot and humid weather in Kyoto,
  11. Hi Everyone, Still no instructions from RCCL regarding my embarkment at Kobe port. Anyone knows what the protocol is? If no ship staff at the terminal, will store my luggage in cruise terminal lockers, have fun in Kobe and checkin when I have done my Kobe day. The ship will leave at 3am, so I have the time.
  12. The overhead board display the certificate number for the Kobe beef and Waygu beef. Don’t eat Japan beef - import from North America or Australia. I had a local beer with the meal for extra 500 yen. Also, I went to Ine village - the Venice of Japan, see Sea of Japan.
  13. No 18% gratuities, meat quantity is better than onboard Tuscan grille. Customer can either pick the set lunch or buy steak from them and pay 500 yen cooking fee. You can enjoy Kobe beef without breaking your wallet. The shop is not in tourist area but 99% customers are tourist.
  14. Sunny, hot and humid weather in Kyoto. Because of heavy flooded and washed out train tracks, Shinkansen service is still cut off between Nagoya and Tokyo. Went to Kobe yesterday to have a Kobe beef lunch in a butcher shop. Visit the Herb Garden and Kobe Chinatown, then to Umeda-Osaka for shopping and picked up Osaka pass to be used during Osaka stop. Waiting RCCL instructions on Kobe embarkment.
  15. That’s why I am not in hurry to embark the ship, and spent my money on edge class ships.
  16. Typhoon moved out to the sea away from Osaka and Kobe, Kobe was partly sunny with 32C temperature. Heavy rain in Shimizu area with flooding. Shinkansen still suspending service between Nagoya and Tokyo. Millennium will hit the storm tomorrow when sailing to Kobe.
  17. Shinkansen update this morning. Many tourists couldn’t travel to Tokyo for their flights. Will travel to Kobe this afternoon for errands. It’s more convenient to stay in Kyoto than in Kobe while waiting the ship.
  18. Thanks @Provence55always Because Kyoto is inland, not getting much rain as coastal cities. Waiting Celebrity protocol on Kobe embankment. So many tourists in Kyoto when Shinkansen shut down, the whole station was full of panicked tourists like a disaster zone. Hotels are very accommodating, let everyone extend the stay because no one can leave or leave.
  19. Will post the details after done my cruise. Japan Shinkansen totally suspended operation due to typhoon. I was stuck in Kyoto could not travel to Yokohama to board the ship, but Celebrity approved me to embark at Kobe port.
  20. I got approve to board the ship at Kobe on 2nd September. yuppy
  21. Too much rain from Shimizu to Tokyo area. That’s why the Shinkansen suspend operation. Kyoto is dry and partly sunny, if I can get the downline request, travel from Kyoto to Kobe is one hour and still have train services.
  22. Thank You, I think this typhoon also impact the 31st August sailing.
