diane.in.ny Posted February 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2018 We are doing an around Australia cruise and one afternoon we do "Kimberly Coast Scenic Cruising." Was wondering what we should be watching for? Either side of the ship better than the other? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
PerfectlyPerth Posted February 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2018 The Kimberley is an enormous region - bigger than many countries! The coastline itself is 2000km long. This map shows its outline https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimberley_(Western_Australia) So impossible to know what part of that giant region your actual coastal scenic cruising will be without you providing more info - such as the destinations on either side of that particular day. Many of the coastal attractions are listed here. http://www.australiasnorthwest.com/Destinations/The_Kimberley
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted February 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Up on deck is best. If you're going from Fremantle north then the starboard is the shore side, port if coming the other way. However the ship will probably stop at one point (at least) and rotate 360 degrees so everyone gets the view. On the cruise we did that was timed for sunset. diane.in.ny Posted February 10, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted February 10, 2018 PerfectlyPerth, Thanks for the links. Will take a close look at them. We will be doing the sailing between Broome and Darvin OzKiwiJJ Yes, we are coming clockwise. And I just checked ... our cabin is starboard :D
PerfectlyPerth Posted February 11, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2018 PerfectlyPerth, Thanks for the links. Will take a close look at them. We will be doing the sailing between Broome and Darvin So that narrows it down to 1500 kilometres of coastline !! Really - it could be anywhere they decide. So anywhere out on any deck will be the place to be.

There aren't many cruises that do Broome to Darwin and if it's a more specialised cruise you'll get plenty of good viewing of the Kimberley Coast. Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted February 12, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 12, 2018 OK, it will be similar to when I did a Top End cruise. According to the itinerary the ship will be doing the scenic cruising between 3pm and 6pm, so it will approach the coast around 3pm, could be a bit earlier, could be a bit later. The ship will cruise along the coast for an hour or so, until she reaches a prime location. At that stage she will rotate slowly 360 degrees so everyone can see the spectacular cliffs and colours. On our cruise the ship stayed in that location until sunset. This will give you an idea of what you'll see. The colours change as the sun gets lower in the sky. https://www.dropbox.com/s/is4pufl31rjtxxm/IMG_2441.JPG?dl=
