paulfoel Posted August 8, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2018 We've got a 14 year old and a 5 year old. 5 year old will love the kids club but how do they get in touch with you in the event of a problem? 14 year old will probably wander around a bit and do his own thing - how do we keep track and/or find each other or do you just have to arrange to meet at certain time? leaveitallbehind Posted August 8, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2018 If the 14 year old is interested, there will likely be a kids club program for them as well. As to keeping in touch, set the guidelines for what you expect them to do and how you want them to check in with you. But post-its on the door, room phone messages, pre-arranged meeting places and times, meal gatherings, discussions and plans for the day's activities on board, curfews, knowing the likely places they - and you - will be (pools, arcades, etc.) all work as ways to stay in touch. The ships are not that big and the places they will likely be at any given time are not that many to make it difficult to keep track of them. As mentioned, talk in advance as to what their plans are and set your expectations ahead of time.
paul929207 Posted August 8, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2018 It just takes a little planning. Leaving a note on the door if things change.
agargoyle Posted August 8, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2018 HI, just set ground rules and check in times. Also depending on the ship and if your 14 has a smartphone, you can use the ships wifi via the ship app to stay in touch. On our last cruise on the Anthem with my son and his family, the 11 and 9 year old were allowed tot go to the SeaPlex by themselves. They could only go from the room to the SeaPlex and back, knowing if they strayed they would lose the freedom. Worked well. Funny story-- my 9 year old grandson took it to heart and when he had to go to the bathroom he went back to the room instead of using the bathroom in the SeaPlex area. We had to qualify that he could go to the bathroom and the hotdog stand.
cruisinqt Posted August 8, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2018 Carnival has the Hub app which provides unlimited texting through the app to fellow passengers for $5. Not sure if other lines has something similar but the app is awesome. No more post it notes or having to meet up at specific times.
