Hello

We are considering booking cabin 5137 on the Star.

Has anyone stayed in that cabin? Was there much noise from the dining room above?

On the deck layout drawings there is an unmarked area next to this cabin and towards the back of the ship. Does anyone know what is in this space as I am anxious about noise?

Many thanks for any help

I have not stayed in the cabin 5137 or anywhere near it.

That noted deck 5 in that area would have inside cabins

and ocean view cabins across the passageway.

The white areas surrounding this cabin and others in that

location are probably crew serve area - storage areas for

cabin steward supplies carts etc. Crew elevators are not

marked on the deck plans - this area could have these also.

But looking at deck 6 with the Aqua Restaurant just above

elevators don't fit into this as would crew stairs. Ventilation

ducts and airways would also be ruled out.

I have eaten several times in the Aqua Restaurant.

Regarding noise from the Aqua Restaurant should be next

to none as the floor is carpeted and this cabin 5137 is right

under an area with tables that are not moved.

This is not an area where service carts with dirty dishes are

moved over tile floors. If real quiet may hear a vacuum after

hours cleaning the carpeted floor but not for hours on end.

The Aqua Restaurant would be open for all three meals

breakfast lunch and dinner but there are plenty of other

venues to eat so that should not be a problem.

Reviewing the deck plan your cabin 5137 appears to be at

the end of a dead end passageway - BUT - that would be

unusual - there is no doubt a crew door entering into a crew

area that could be used as an emergency exit. With that

in mind the passageway outside your cabin door should not

have a lot of traffic if any.

Good central location - (center of the gyroscope) - desired

by those with motion discomfort problems.

the galley may be on 5. if i remember correctly, i believe the two MDRs are serviced by the same kitchen and i remember an escalator being involved on one of the behind the scenes tours i did. so i dont think the dining room above you will be noisy, but if the galley is behind you/next to you, that could be very noisy.

The galley is on -6- services both MDRs - cabin 5137 is located just forward of the bulkhead wall

of the galley - just enough to be out of the noise zone.

NO escalator on the STAR or the DAWN - but I do recall one ship either the HAL Westerdam or Carnival

Victory having the escalator between decks - searching photo inventory to check on that.

CONFIRIMING - the escalators were on the Carnival Victory !

If the Star has the same staff or same training that they had in December 2016-2017, I would be happy sleeping/camping outside on a deck chair. Staff was fabulous!!! I've been on Century, Carnival, Holland and a couple of Norwegian cruises but the Star staff outshone them all - in spite of the mechanical problems that had her broke down in a couple of places. The staff never let that affect their outstanding attention to detail and their wonderful attitudes.

According to CruiseAdvice:

"Deck 5

******************** Warning ***

Some cabins on this deck with potential problems.

Deck 5 is right beneath several major public areas on the Norwegian Star, including the casino, bars, and restaurants. This could mean some noise issues for a select group of cabins.

Forward on Deck 5 of the Norwegian Star, Oceanview Staterooms 5000 and 5500 are closest to the theater area. Noise could be an issue during rehearsals and performances.

On Deck 5, exterior cabins 5526- 5558 port side and 5026- 5058 starboard are under the casino. Inside cabins in that area, 5525- 5553, 5025, and 5055, will likely be most affected. Noise issues from this area can occur after hours when many travelers are in their cabins on the Norwegian Star. Guests of 5526 have indicated that noise from the casino, to include hearing chair dragging between 2:00 and 4:00 am, was a problem. If you are light sleeper, you may prefer to find a cabin elsewhere on the ship, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine (a sound device available at a specialty retailer like Brookstone -- produces pleasant sounds that can wipe out the unpleasant sounds).

Port side on the Norwegian Star's Deck 5, interior cabins 5067- 5083 and Oceanview Staterooms 5072- 5078 are generally under bar areas. Again, we suggest looking for a stateroom elsewhere, bringing along ear plugs, or investing in a wave machine for light sleepers.

Aft on Deck 5 of the Norwegian Star, Oceanview Staterooms 5668- 5638 port side and 5086- 5138 starboard, and interior cabins 5567- 5591, 5083- 5093, 5609, 5109, 5629- 5635, and 5129- 5135 are under restaurants. The noise experienced in 5132, according to guest reviews, does occur late in the evenings when staff are doing kitchen clean up. There could be noise during dining hours and during the clean-up after each meal. For dinner, the last diners usually exit by 10:30 and there is likely to some noise from the clean-up (vacuum cleaners) as late as 11:30. Given that most people don't get back to their cabins to after 11 PM, this shouldn't be a substantial issue. Breakfast typically starts in the main dining room at 7:00 AM, so you might hear some noise above starting then. However, few people go to the main dining room for breakfast, so, this should not be a major issue.

Some of the worst cabins on the Norwegian Star are on Deck 5. While we are not suggesting that this deck be avoided, you will find quieter cabin areas on higher decks!"

We have just come off the star on Sunday....it was our second time on this ship...the first time having a balcony quite high up and this time we had a outside on deck 4...and here the problems began.cabin was situated near the medical centre....the walls were paper thin......we could hear the English couple on one side and a Chinese family on the other and could hear every conversation quite clearly.

On the 4th day the English guy next door confronted my Mrs....complaining that they hadn't slept a wink because of my constant snoring...so I trundled off to guest services asking about a change of cabin, initially they said ship was full, but when I explained the situation... They said we could move cabin.

We moved to deck 5 a few cabins along above our initial cabin...there were 2 cabins empty next to each other so now we only had neighbours on 1 side....unfortunately we could still here every conversation from them....so without question, this ship has sound proofing problems on these 2 floors....if you are a light sleeper....you have no chance....you have been warned.

I did Google it while onboard and it seems lots of complaints about thinness of walls.

We did have a good time and I will give a more comprehensive review when I get time.
