Misty Fjords Flight Excursion Ketchikan

Have been doing a lot of research through CC regarding Sight Seeing Flights over the Misty Fjords while we are in Ketchikan in August. I am looking at Island Wings and also Family Air as two possible venues. Family Air has a 4 pax Cessna which makes me a bit concerned about turbulance in the smaller plane. Would that be an issue for a smaller plane? Both companies have great reviews on Trip Advisor but would love to hear from anyone through CC that has some insight.

I flew with Island Wings last summer over the Misty Fjords. Michelle's plane holds seven people total. The flight was calm and landing on the water was much smoother than landing on land. The highlight of the trip was watching a bear on shore while we stood on the pontoon of the plane.

Enjoy Alaska!

It's been a while (2007) and I don't remember which vendor we used, although I don't think it was one of the two you are considering. However, I do remember that it was a pretty small plane and there were just two of us. I don't remember any turbulence and the water landing was smooth. Since there were just two of us (probably much, much more affordable in 2007!!), seeing out the windows was not a problem. However, if you have 4 or more people in your party, or are asked to share, I would ask whether everyone gets a window. Hopefully someone else can answer about the size of the plane and turbulence, but obviously those little planes are used quite a bit in Alaska, so I suspect there's no great difference between the smallest and the largest. And, of course, it depends on what the weather is like on the day you fly.

We did the Misty Fjord flight tour in June 2017 with Randy Sullivan of Mountain Air after reading many reviews on trip advisor. His plane holds 6 passengers. I am a bit of a nervous flier, but I felt safe on this flight. Very little turbulence. Much less than what I expected. Randy was very informative and personable and we enjoyed this excursion very much! He was also happy to answer all my questions over the phone when booking.

from the Family Air website:

1. My airplane holds a maximum of 4 passengers and I will take a minimum of two (3-4 minimum is the norm for other companies). All the seats are window seats.
