Montreal Arrival -- Luggage Hold for Evening Flight Home?

We are arriving into Montreal in mid-July. We're looking at taking a night flight out, but am unsure what we can do with our luggage during the day. We were hoping to use the day to explore the city. Any suggestions for what we could do with all of our luggage for the day, until we head to the airport? Thanks in advance!

What time is your flight?

I've only been to Montreal when staying the night, so I've never had this issue. A quick Google search brought up several frustrated TripAdvisor and related posts on the lack of luggage storage facilities in Montreal, other than in some fairly unique circumstances.

That could put you in the potentially expensive situation of booking a hotel "for the night" knowing full well you'd leave in the evening. Or, if possible, spend a day in Montreal and fly out the next morning?

EDITED TO ADD: Actually, it appears there is a luggage storage location. It may be relatively new, and I know nothing about it, but it's Canadian Luggage Handler, web page http://www.luggagehandler.ca/ Check it out and see, and maybe someone on here has used them.

Thank you SO much. This is exactly the type of service for which I was searching. Thank you!

Are you arriving by cruise ship? If so, there is a luggage storage facility at the cruise terminal opened all day (available to embarking passengers too). More info. in this link:

Thank you to the previous poster who provided the link. We will be on HAL in August disembarking in Montreal and have the same dilemma with a late flight and not knowing what to do with our luggage. I googled the cruise port and came up with nothing about luggage storage so thank you for providing it. Does anyone know what terminal HAL uses? Thanks all in advance.

Have you considered renting a car for the day, picking it up at the cruise terminal and dropping it off at Dorval airport? You could store your baggage in the trunk of the vehicle and use the car to explore Montreal. Depending on the number of people in your party, the car rental cost might be worth while.

We are planning on doing exactly as you suggested in June. However, I was not able to locate a car rental facility at the pier through my internet search. Can you tell me what rental agencies are available at the pier and the address used?

You will find very useful information on car rental agencies near the cruise terminal in this web page (with maps).

Personally, to visit Old Montréal, I would not rent a car (problems with parking, possible construction etc.). You might be better off just walking or taking cabs if mobility is an issue. There is a luggage consignment service at the cruise terminal.

Even to go to the airport, the cab might be a better. I think large ones can be booked for a larger group. To have an idea of taxi prices, here is a well done website. I don't like to encourage one cab company over the other but with this site you will get price estimates according to where you are going.

Usually HAL uses Terminal 1 with some exceptions such as in May if the water levels are too high to pass under the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. To get an idea, here is a schedule from last year:

http://www.port-montreal.com/en/cruise-vessels-schedule.html

Important update about HAL usual terminal. The docking assignment schedule has been updated.

This year, even in the summer and in the fall, some HAL sailings will arrive/leave at Terminal 3. Ships from other cruise lines which are berthed 2 days seem to be getting the priority at Terminal 1. Also, during festivals and events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix, some streets in Old Montréal are blocked off. When so, it is much easier to get to Terminal 3.

A complimentary shuttle between T3 and T1, with airport style vans, which can accomodate luggage was organized last year and should be this year. From the comments I have read, there were no complaints about the service. The ride is not too long. It is on a private port road so no traffic issue. Here is a link to see where the different terminals are situated and how to access them:
