SoloGal Posted September 22, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2010 I'm thinking about taking a cruise (I've never been on one but travel solo all the time) and I am wondering, do single men also cruise? I am not looking to fall in love or anything like that. I would just like to meet a man I can have fun with while on vacation. Am I likely to meet someone? Is he likely to be in my age range (30s-40s)? I know you can't really say for sure, but I'd be interested to hear others stories. TY Lily
NLP33 Posted September 22, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2010 On the RCCL Monarch of the Seas (Dec 6 - 10) there are a lot of single women and men traveling in that age range. From my experience if you travel RCCL or Carnival you will find more single or solo travelers in that age range. Celeberity and Holland America will have solo travelers but they usually are seniors. I have met some great older people traveling solo that were a lot of fun. But if you are looking for single men in that age range stick with RCCL or CCL. Always go in with the mindset of having fun and you will meet others both male and female to hang out with. You can try a organized singles cruise if you want a group of single/mingle type activities. Just google " singles cruise ".
familyofrobot Posted September 22, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2010 Celeberity and Holland America will have solo travelers but they usually are seniors. Fooey. I'm booked on a Celebrity cruise and was hoping to meet some singles my age. I'm 32. Oh well.
NLP33 Posted September 22, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2010 Fooey... hilarious :) Do not give up hope. I am sure someone will be traveling with a parent or family that you can hang with. Also, most older travelers are active and fun to converse with. Have fun and remember that 30% single supp. is still ongoing on my cruise. ;)
familyofrobot Posted September 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Also, most older travelers are active and fun to converse with. Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against older travelers and very much enjoy their company. It's just that I work with a lot of older people in my job (which I love), without a single person close in age to me. So I was just hoping for some companions my own age while away from work. I'm sure I will still meet people. I am afraid to book a ship other than Celebrity because I am not too much of a partier. I'm pretty nerdy and rarely use alcohol as a tool for entertainment (though, I do enjoy a good buzz). I chose Celebrity for their enrichment classes which totally thrill me. Gives me a chance to brush up on my Italian, learn some new cooking skills, and possibly attend some interested lectures (see...nerdy). The other ships didn't really offer anything like that. Princess has Scholarship@Sea, but their food is awful. At least, it was on the one ship I went on. And I like food! Oy! A vacation is what you make of it though, so I am sure to have fun regardless. P.S. Words like fooey are part of what makes life so enjoyable.
NLP33 Posted September 23, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 23, 2010 Celebrity is a great cruiseline with many offerings that some others do not have. Lectures, classes etc. and I hear great food! I almost booked on Celebrity for December because of these things as well as their "drink package"! I think you would do fine on the other lines in the future. They are not booze cruises except for spring break. RCCL and CCL have a wide demographic and many fun activities to fill the day and night. I took my grandmother on a Carnival cruise this past spring and we both had fun. Great memories. Here is what I propose... You cruise Royal Caribbean on your next cruise and I will do Celebrity on mine. That way we both will be going outside the box. :)
outerspaceguy Posted September 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 24, 2010 I am afraid to book a ship other than Celebrity ... The other ships didn't really offer anything like that. There are some of us out there. I'm 33. I'm single. And I've cruised a bunch on Celebrity. And BTW- IMHO- you are correct about Celebrity. You'll definetly have a better chance finding someone closer to your age on RCCL, but (even so) I also like Celebrity better...

No other ships have really appealed to me as much.

Stallion Posted September 29, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 29, 2010 Yes I can confirm that singles get lucky on a Celebrity Cruise. I usually go RCCL or Carnival but I met a great girl on Celebrity-too bad she was "geographically undesireable"

outerspaceguy Posted September 29, 2010 #13 Share Posted September 29, 2010 The other thing I don't like about cruising with a singles group is that they tend to want to do the "single-mingle" dining (where you can sit wit whomever amongst the total group)... but (I've noticed... typically) at the LATE seating. I'm a hard-core morning person: I start getting noticeably tired around 830PM. Having late dining just. will. not. work. And I'm not much of a conversationalist once I start getting tired... ;)
Shipbound Posted October 2, 2010 #14 Share Posted October 2, 2010 Several years ago I was on a cruise and I talked to these three ladies, I believe it was the next to the last day of the cruise, one of the ladies said I was the first person that talked to them all week. I am not a shy person at all, in fact I go solo on cruises all the time. The next one is 10/31/2010. People ask me all the time how can I go by myself ?. I usually say I'm not by myself I'm with 2000 other people. The only thing that is a bummer abount going solo is that it cost more money. So do not be concerned about going solo just have fun. The easiest trick I've found for this is to simply walk/run/jog the "wrong" way on the jogging track. (ie: on almost all the ships I've been on, everyone walks/runs on the jogging track counter-clockwise. You go clockwise.) The other reason to do this is that you get to see a stream of smiling faces (as opposed to...)

I am very low income and manage to scrape together the money(with credit card at times admittedly but wth) and am a 49 year old divorceee and grandmother :)I am one of the younger passengers on the chip and frankly as one approaches that is a perk not a negative LOL.But I have a great time regardless of the age oof passengers because theolder passengers often have more energy and better attitude than people 1/2 their age! I do not smoke or drink either. The food is excellent, you get on voard as you wish credits, and there are awesome lectures, classes and shore excursions. The staff is second to none in friendliness and they are great to chat with. There are not a lot of single people however one thing you migh do as I have is request to be sat woith other single travelers at dinner... Torgo Posted October 18, 2010 #18 Share Posted October 18, 2010 I'm 27 and I'm going on my first cruise in about 12 days as a single, so I'd say that you're definitely bound to run into other singles on whatever cruise you choose. I would tend to think that you'd have better luck on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, or Norwegian... but I think you could find singles your age on just about any ship. Lvnmylife85 Posted November 30, 2010 #19 Share Posted November 30, 2010 I'll be cruising solo next week, and not that I'm looking for love but it'd ne nice to see some single men within my age range. Heck, I'd just be happy if I see any single or solo cruisers on my ship. I'm in my mid 20s and cruising with ncl. Wish me luck on mine and good luck on your search! :-)

MrOctober Posted January 27, 2011 #21 Share Posted January 27, 2011 About the Idea of Cruising alone... here was my take on that subject a few years back. posted this on anothere site when this topic came up . I cruise alone all the time well... I took two women with me on sepreate cruises and both ended up the two worst cruises Ive taken. couldnt stand the complaining ...like "I dont want to go to the Casino" " I have to do my hair and make up I'll be ready in an hour" "we have been sitting in the hot sun for over an hour" "sex?.. Now?.. It's only 11:00 am" "sex? ..Now?...someone may come up on the deck and see us " "lets go shopping" "it's 10:30 pm lets go to Bed" " she's just going to braid my hair Ill be done in an hour" "another beer? youve already had two today so far" "No!! the shower is too small for both of us at once" "i have to make the bed and clean up before the stewart comes" "the topless deck is for perverts" " I look Fat in That Bikini Ill wear this one piece with a cover up" "Don't do that Here....I think theres cameras in the Elevators" " I dont like the way the Girls were Looking at you when you were singing" " I just want to Cuddle" "Theres not enough room up there by the Port Holes to do that" " stop using the mouthwash right from the bottle" The list can go On and On.... Going on my 6th cruise January 25th and going alone... Booked another one for October 13th of 2007 on the Liberty By myself as well. There is no words to describe the freedom of Cruiseing alone!!! there are plenty of singles on board to play with and dance with then go back to being alone doing what you want to do when you want to do it...this past October on the Sensation (4 night)I just didnt feel like getting off the ship at either port so I didnt It was my choice and I had a great cruise just hanging around the ship for the whole cruise...you can do whatever you want !!!! It's a wonderful Life...lol Do a four day cause the quick three days is just one day too short. youll just be getting used to it and then it's over...the extra 4th night is just enough, Im doing my first 8 day in Oct ...Just hope i have enough Casino money to hold out that long.... Try it alone you'll love it Just My Experience.
FSUJim Posted February 7, 2011 #22 Share Posted February 7, 2011 I am a 58 year old single male, and I also tend to be rather shy (although ironically less shy while cruising). It is amazing when I return home many friends and family will ask "Did you meet anyone while you were crusing?" and my answer is always "quite a few" as in all honesty I will talk with whoever I can. I also agree with an earlier post that my major goal in crusing is to see areas of the world I have never seen before, so if I have an early port day, I tend to have a quiet evening as I will spend that next day quite busy.
Angelus Posted February 19, 2011 #23 Share Posted February 19, 2011 there's plenty of people that cruise solo. I've done it plenty of times. I have 3 cruises planned this year. Although one of them is with a group of friends. I love going on cruises. So if none of my friends like going, then I go anyway. You only live once...
masez34 Posted March 9, 2011 #24 Share Posted March 9, 2011 I am 32, single and am going on my First Cruise in 3 days on Carnival Glory, so it does happen, I am hoping to come across some single women also to spend a little time with. never know who, what and where you can meet someone that can change your life, so hopefully it can happen on a Cruise.
