Suds70 Posted October 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2017 are there a lot of taxis to the old port from the cruise port? Thanks
Rare Hlitner Posted October 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 16, 2017 A lot? No! Enough? Sometimes! But many of the taxis want a longer haul then just driving a couple of miles....so you might have to wait a few minutes to get a taxi for that short haul. There will also be some type of shuttle bus system (the cost varies from zero to about $10....depending on the cruise line) which is how many will go into town. jpenguin Posted October 18, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 18, 2017 Any idea how much taxis charge for the day? We will be on Symphony of the Seas in June 2018 and was thinking of having a taxi take us around for the day. Rare Hlitner Posted October 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Any idea how much taxis charge for the day? We will be on Symphony of the Seas in June 2018 and was thinking of having a taxi take us around for the day. Sent from my iPhone using Forums A French taxi for an entire day? Asking them to give up their coffee break, lunch break, etc? You are probably looking at 250 € plus or minus 50. But its all negotiable and supply/demand (and the mood of the driver) will impact the price. Also consider that most of the drivers speak little or no English. If you want to hire a car/driver for the day we would suggest looking for a professional tour company (we have no idea who since we always do our own thing) and booking prior to your trip. And when you say "take us around for the day" you will need to be more specific. If you just want to go around Marseille you can certainly do it without the big expense of an all day taxi. If you want to head North into parts of Provence it would help if you had some idea where you want to visit. With a car there are many option including cities such as Aix en Provence, Nimes, Arles....or...perhaps you would rather explore the Luberon. We would never rely on a taxi driver to choose an itinerary. So that is another reason to find a professional tour guide/driver. Hank
marazul Posted October 19, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2017 Ditto Hank's comments. A taxi for the day is not a good idea. The area is not like a Caribbean island where the taxi takes you on the road that goes around to all the beaches. You need to pick where you are going. Look in Trip Advisor for the many recommendations for tour guides. Go in their websites and look at their many "set" itineraries. Pick one or combine features that appeal to you from a couple of the tours. (Look in a map to see where those places are.) The final cost will probably be comparable to what the taxi would charge you. (And don't count on finding a taxi willing to do it.) Since you are not going until next June, you can still find a good guide. But book soon, it is not too early to set this up.
caroak Posted October 28, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 28, 2017 Does anyone know if Uber is available in Marseille? Carole
Rare Hlitner Posted November 10, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 10, 2017 Does anyone know if Uber is available in Marseille? Carole The last time we were in Marseille they did have Uber. But Uber is very controversial in France, primarily because the taxi drivers are organized (often in Unions) and oppose any competition. So the real question is will Uber survive in Marseille (and elsewhere in France) until you get there? Hank
