Trainman-2 Posted June 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2010 ...You Should Not Open This Windjammer Thread We are Diamond Plus with 25 RCI Cruise Credits and on every cruise, the Windjammer was our favorite place. There is something for everyone, at every meal, on every day, to either love or hate. Lots of variety makes trying new things fun! I had never had Baked Beans for Breakfast until the Windjammer and when I asked, I was told that they were a popular breakfast item in Europe. You learn something new every day and now they are a Breakfast Staple for me. Some of these photos I have posted before in my "Live From..." threads but many have never been posted. Please bear with me. I have a bunch and it will take awhile to post them all up. They are in no particular order but posted by ship... The Oasis of the Seas! The World's Largest Windjammer! Trainman-2 Posted June 13, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted June 13, 2010 More From The Oasis... That's it for the Oasis. You have probably guessed that the larger servings are mine and the smaller servings were Carol's. My Personal Recommendation is to conduct a "Detailed Reconnaissance" of the Windjammer to determine what is offered and where it is before you start to load up your plate. One thing we always did was use the US $1 Coins. Carol and I would head for a table where she would sit while I did the Reconnaissance. She would order our drinks. Usually water or iced tea for her and a diet coke for me. But she always gave the waiter a $1 coin per drink. By the second day, they remembered us and our coins and the drinks came automatically as did the refills. These coins worked just as well in the bars in all of the RCI Ships we sailed on. huenix Posted June 13, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 13, 2010 Pretty sure I just gained a pound reading this thread. And I can't even eat about 95% of the items pictured. Thanks for the visuals!

windjamming Posted June 13, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 13, 2010 I love this thread, Trainman!! What a great idea to put together all of these yummy memories that we were lucky enough to experience with you. I like all of your pictures, but I think I like best your cream cheese, grape jam, and sausage English muffin sandwich and your perfectly round gravy indents in your mashed potatoes. PS: What is the secret with the indents? I have tried but they never come out deep enough, and my gravy goes all over my plate.
Trainman-2 Posted June 13, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted June 13, 2010 thanks for psoting the photos.. but why the dollar coins, and not just bills? The $1 Coins are uncommon. Most of the crew have never seen them and it is always fun to watch them examine them as they walk away. Because they are uncommon, they are memorable and it helps the crew to remember us. They are hard to find. Many banks don't stock them but any bank can get them for you. Always ask for "New" ones as the fake gold coloring turns brown with use. The first time I posted a photo of a "Gravy Depression" a member from the UK got all excited about it. The "Secret" is a really big (high) pile of mashed potatoes. Sick the gravel ladle down into the mashed potatoes and sort of tilt it and pour the gravy into the "Depression" before removing the ladle. Practice makes perfect! :D

irishgirl Posted June 13, 2010 #13 Share Posted June 13, 2010 I see the Windjammer on the Oasis is set up exactly like it was on the Celebrity Solstice. I found that I really liked it with the different stations. It took me a couple days, but I also found that if I wandered around from station to station, I wouldn't choose something that I really didn't want. My favorite for breakfast was a hot roll with butter and I would spread bleu cheese on it. I'm hoping they have plates of bleu cheese on the Oasis. Thanks for the photos, I have enjoyed them and I was so sorry to hear about Carol's passing. Judy
Trainman-2 Posted June 13, 2010 Author #14 Share Posted June 13, 2010 More from the Freedom of the Seas... For a long time I knew about "Afternoon Snacks" in the Windjammer but I never went because it interfered with my Nap Time. But one day I went and was shocked at the number of really good offerings. I had to revise my Nap Schedule and I have not missed one since!

Trainman-2 Posted June 13, 2010 Author #16 Share Posted June 13, 2010 More From the Freedom of the Seas... Another Tip - You can get some Chedar Cheese slices from the Cold Cuts Area and then cover it up with scrambled eggs. That's it from the Freedom Folks. Trainman-2 Posted June 14, 2010 Author #19 Share Posted June 14, 2010 The photos are Breakfast and Lunch. We only ate dinner in the Windjammer once or twice. If you have ever noticed that there are not a lot of kids running around the Main Dining Room in the evenings it is because they are all busy running around in the Windjammer. The variety of offerings in the Windjammer is impressive. Too many to list. Every lunch they offer a carved meat selection which varies day to day. Some things are there every day and others change. There are always cold cuts, burgers, hot dogs, french fries and such in addition to the fruits, salads, vegetables, meats, and pastas. I have to reemphasize the importance of walking through the entire Windjammer and checking out all of the selections before you start to fill your plate. It is too easy to fill you plate to capacity and then find something else you would have liked more.

Trainman-2 Posted June 14, 2010 Author #22 Share Posted June 14, 2010 The Mariner of the Seas For four years in a row, we did a Family Cruise in the Summer. This was before I started doing "Live From..." posts so I have no photos from the Windjammer on the Mariner or the Sovereign. Carol's son Calvin was with us on each of those cruises. He was in the Junior US Marine Corps ROTC program offered at his High School. Near the end of his Freshman year he suggested the he and I both wear our Dress Uniforms (I am retired from the US Army) on the Formal nights. Carol agreed but my Dress Blue Uniform had shrunk badly hanging in the closet over the years but we were able to come up with a new on that fit. These were special times for Carol. Here is the "Official Photo" Calvin is now a Lance Corporal in the US Marine Corps serving as an Electronic Intelligence Specialist and stationed at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. Mydnite Posted June 14, 2010 #25 Share Posted June 14, 2010 The first time I posted a photo of a "Gravy Depression" a member from the UK got all excited about it. The "Secret" is a really big (high) pile of mashed potatoes. Sick the gravel ladle down into the mashed potatoes and sort of tilt it and pour the gravy into the "Depression" before removing the ladle. Practice makes perfect! :D It was certainly something I had never seen before traveling to the US, gravy elevated to more than simply pouring over something, now OH does it and get some funny looks over here sometimes :) Thank you for posting the pictures, I have cruise witdrawal atm, made worse (or better) by an upcoming cruise and they have helped to allivate some of the symptoms :) Great family photos as well, def something to be proud of.
