All Things Voyager of the Seas Please!!

Ok....since I'm going on the Voyager in March, I've gotta beg for 'all things' you can share about this ship, tips, etc. I've really enjoyed reading some of the tips for the Monarch and Explorer, so I figured I might as well be enjoying reading about the ship I'm about ready to sail!!

We are on Voyager in January, so I am anxious to hear from people who have cruised on her lately.

Condition of the ship?

How is the food?

Is there an omelette bar (one of my favorites)?

What about activities for adults....aside from the casino?

Secrets that we should know (I guess that would make them not secrets, huh?)

There's something about the first ship you cruise on, and Voyager is that to me, so I hope people enjoy their time aboard.

Hi there. I will be sailing on Voyager in February. The 17th to be exact. This will be my first cruise and I'm very excited. Just wanted to introduce myself so I'm not a complete lurker. I've loved poking around this site and learning all sorts of things and I'm looking forward to learning more.

Don't feel bad about lurking. I did the same thing for months. You might look for your sail date on the Roll-Call thread for Voyager. If you are going on a 7 night or longer, RCI does a Meet and Mingle thing.

Join your roll call thread and make friends with some others that will be on the ship with you. It adds a bit more to the vacation knowing that you have a few acquaintances on board.

Voyager is older than Navigator, but should compare very well. We thought she was in excellent shape. Most everything is the exact same. Nitpicking differences might include: the Solarium on Voyager has a few less lounge chairs than Navigator in exchange for some tables that are fixed in place (wish that weren't so), and we felt that the WJ cafe on Voyager wasn't run in quite as efficient a way as it had been on Navigator. Lines there backed up often on Voyager unlike our experience on Navigator. Some things have different names/themes like Cleopatra's Needle (large performance lounge) on Voyager would be Ixtapa Lounge on Navigator. Not better/worse, just different. Most everything seemed to be the same. Great ships both!

Here's a tip: Voyager, Explorer and Adventure balconies are built inside the structure of the ship, so they are cut-outs into the metal. When looking out, there is a metal wall about 3 feet high topped with glass that extends about a foot higher. Balconies on Deck 6 are all metal and have a smaller cutout. There is a solid wall between balconies giving a very cavelike and private effect. Conversely, on Mariner and Navigator, the balconies are built on the outsde of the ship's structure and there is glass from the deck floor up so it's a very clear view. There is no difference on deck 6 from the other decks. As well, the balconies are separated by frosted glass dividers, which can be opened at the discretion of the hotel manager and captain if you have friends/family in the next cabin. (sometimes they refuse to open the dividers for "safety concerns" so it's not a given).

You will notice the "I Love Explorer" in my signature- that is since she became a home ship to us in NJ.... I have only been on her once. I havent been on Voyager since April 2006 but Voyager is THE BEST!!!! We've been on her twice.

An At Sea Day........

Once she relocates to Texas everyone really has to come back and share info. We have to Texanize her and teach the crew how to say "ya'll". ;) I too would love to hear more about the ship itself - we're in a JS. How are the lounges, the spa, the casino? I realize though that since she is in Europe most people on those itineraries spend more time in ports than onboard. I've heard that the solarium pool has a retractable roof and then I have heard that it is open air so there's a point of confusion I'd like cleared up.

Voyager was our first, and it was everything we expected in a cruise. Feel free to check out the pictures in my link below.

I wish I had the answer about the retractable roof/awning over the solarium pool...but I dont. Both times we were on her, we were with kids- all we did was pass through during the day, not taking much notice.

Here is a great link, the answer/fact might be on there, Im not sure. Ive heard the same controversy through some threads, I always thought it was open air in the middle and kind of roofed/covered on the sides...but I dont recall 100%.

I can tell you definitely that she does not have a retractable roof over the solarium - it is completely open air.

I've spent many an hour relaxing in the Solarium hot tubs on Voyager or napping in a lounge chair in the Solarium.

DW and I were on Voyager in March. This was our first cruise and also Our 25th Anniversary.

Just a few things i remember:

Bedding was in Good Shape. DW has a bad Back and was very Happy with the beds).

I have nothing to compare it To, However the overall condition of the ship looked good to Me.

I thought the Food was good and our Table wait staff was excellent.

As to the Omelet bar. Not sure as i am allergic to Eggs, so i did not Notice.

Adult entertainment was great- dancing, Stage Shows,ice Show and other things Like Late Night Comedian(Could not stop Laughing). Much more like Quest, love and Marriage Game

Also Midnight Buffets. First was on Pool deck with Dancing and FOOD. 2nd was in The Dining Room with Food and Chocalote. Awesome Display!!!

As for those asking about Omelets...I think there is no question that all Voyager class ships have an Omelet station. I know when we were on Voyager they did and on Explorer as well. The Omelet stations are in the back of the Windjammer and there have always been 2 guys making them, therefore 2 lines and never, ever too long a wait.

I have a question. Is the observation deck on the very front open on sea days? I know it will be windy there, but would be fun to hang out there, I think. Also, has anyone walked all the way around the ship on the deck where the life boats are? How is the small deck that goes on the outside of the dining room windows? Thanks to anyone who can answer.

What is “the vault?” the disco

What is “the board room?” I'm not sure of this one, but I think it's a meeting room

What is “Studio B?” the ice rink (they also use it sometimes as a dance floor and for quest)

What is “cloud nine?” a bar up on Deck 14

What is “seven hearts?” the card/game room

What is “high notes?” another bar on Deck 14

What is “19th Hole?” a golf themed bar

Thanks. We rather Enjoyed the windjammer for breakfast and Lunch. We Did try the Dining room Once and While the service and the Food were Excellent. We Enjoyed the Variety in the Windjammer more.

Things may have changed since we were on board. However we tried both Sea days to walk up to the observation deck and it was closed. It may have been the weather one of the days, since it was Very windy.

Front deck varies due to wind. Once the wind gets up over about 20 knots, they close it. I went up there several times on January. Even when it's open it's incredibly windy. To be expected when the ship is moving though.

I have been up on the helicopter pad while the ship is moving but occasionally it will be closed, usually due to weather.
