minniemom2009 Posted September 9, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2009 I know the cruise is a "cashless" society for the most part, but are there any times when we would need it? I want to make sure I bring enough along. I know we'll have the tip the porters, so I'm planning for that. I am going to get some traveler's cheques for any expenses in Bermuda (our only stop). Is there any other reason I would need cash? TIA!!
Gonzo70 Posted September 9, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2009 I bring cash to tip room service, tip tour guides, and give extra cash to room steward/waiter if I feel they deserve more than the standard tip. I also bring cash for the casino so I don't have to pay the 3% fee.
Moondawgie Posted September 9, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2009 Gonzo or anyone - is there at ATM on board (is there a fee?).
cb at sea Posted September 9, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2009 If you plan to tip at the end of the cruise in cash, then you will need it for that. You will need cash for the porters, when you board ...$1-2 per bag is sufficient. Room service delivery folks are tipped in cash. Everything else (except for gambling money!!!) can be put on your account, generally backed by a credit card. So, you won't need to be carrying wads of cash around the ship with you! gerif Posted September 9, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 9, 2009 Yes there is but sorry I don't know the fee for them. Not sure about the ATM, but the casino charges 3%.
jcamber Posted September 9, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 9, 2009 I booked my excursions on my own and as those require cash payments, I had to bring cash. Cash is also golden when on port and trying to get around, eat and buy souvenirs :)
Gonzo70 Posted September 9, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2009 Gonzo or anyone - is there at ATM on board (is there a fee?). I think I heard someone say the fee is $8, but I don't know for sure. You can withdraw cash for 3% charge at casino, so if it is a small transaction you'd be better of doing that than the ATM. If you are withdrawing a few hundred, the ATM might be cheaper.
