jessgmann Posted September 15, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2009 I am trying to find out if anyone knows of any ports where you could exit the ship and walk to a public beach area. Mainly looking for Caribbean/bahamas ports. Trying to avoid the hassle of a car seat on port & also a little scared of the drivers of the cabs/busses down there. Thanks!! 6rugrats Posted September 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2009 We have had very good cab drivers in the Caribbean and don't feel there is anything to be afraid of. I have had worse driving experiences by far in Europe. There are lots of ports in the Caribbean. Are you asking about any specific ones?
MNmomof4 Posted September 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2009 I'm glad I'm not the only one concerned about bringing a car seat and the safety issues. I changed my NCL cruise to the Carnival Dream because of the ports and car seats. I will be doing nassau and I can walk off the boat and catch a water ferry if I chose and head to the beaches on paradise island. I dont think we will do that the next 2 cruises I have going there. In St. Marten I will walk to the beach after some shopping. I'm hearing different things about st thomas and I dont remember from the last time I was there. Someone said you could walk to a beach from the port and someone else suggested the ferry to st john's. Someone also said you couldnt walk to the port. I picked a ship that the kids might not want to get off :D
Ellanora Posted September 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2009 Try to get an itinerary that includes one of the cruiseline's private islands. That would give you an automatic beach day, no car seat required. :)
CeleBrat Posted September 16, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2009 Here are some of the ports that we've been able to go to nearby beaches: St. Maarten--across the bay with the water ferry Grand Turk--right off of the pier Nassau--water taxi to Paradise Island, but then requires a 20-30 min walk Grand Cayman--snorkeling available near the dock, but wouldn't recommend it as a beach Half Moon Cay--private island (Holland America and Carnival) Castaway Cay--private island (Disney) Great Stirrup Cay--private island (NCL) Key West--Fort Zachary Beach, available via a short walk from tram Ocho Rios--beach at nearby Margaritaville, but must pay for use St.Thomas, Tortola, San Juan, Belize, Cozumel--no beach within walking distance Hope that helps! 2112 Posted September 16, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2009 You can also walk to the beach in Labadee and Barbados (20-30 min walk). To add to the above, no beaches within walking distance in Freeport, St. Kitts, Dominica, Guadalupe, St. Lucia, Roatan, Colon, or Antigua. There is a beach within walking distance of Limon, Costa Rica - but it isn't really a good one.
