I did not know ships went to Shelburne. I would suggest you post this on tripadvisor. Go to forums and then Canada and then Nova Scotia. There are some local experts who should be able to help you.

I often use Wikipedia to find more info about ports. Lots of useful information for most places.

Shelburne is now a small town of just over 2,000 people but at one time was the largest town in Nova Scotia as a result of the arrival of the Loyalistf rom the American Thirteen Colonies. Today there are several museums, some craft shops and antique galleries that make the town worth a visit. It also has retainet many buildings that were constructed for the set of the movie; "The Scarlet Letter" which starred Demi Moore. Here is a link to the town's tourism website:

Thanks Maryann. I hope that there might be a taxi or private hire minibus to hire at the port that would take me on such a tour. I had written to ask how to make the most out of our brief stay in the town so this might well come to pass!

I love Nova Scotia, although a brief stay last year, I couldn't wait to get back there!!

Thanks, I'll try to get hold of the book!

Read "Book of Negroes" by Lawrence Hill (Titled "Somewhere, Someone Knows my Name" in the USA). It's got some interesting historical perspective on the area.

Also a fantastically written book.

You may also run into a Hollywood movie being shot in Shelburne while you are there. William Hurt and Ethan Hawke are starring in the film "Moby Dick", which is being shot in Shelburne and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia this fall.

Thanks for the info - maybe we will get a walk-on part? :D

Off to another meeting, but will post some suggestions in the morning.

Thanks Timothy - look forward to hearing from you tomorrow!

I don't suppose the filming for Moby Dick will have started when Balmoral visits? I'm really looking forward to the visit anyway.

South Shore, I stayed at a fine B & B near the Dory Shop Museum. Have lost the name. May have been Cooper. Have you any idea? I had a small bedroom but friends had the upstairs suite.

The place is The Cooper's Inn, across from the Barrel Factory and near the museums. Paul and Pat Dewar own it now and it is as great as ever.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Cooper's Inn. I loved the location. We had a few days before the cottage I rented on the Bay of Fundy in West Advocate was available and make use of our extra days very well. What a beautiful area! We had several great meals and did a little shopping. Thanks to your good memory, I'll keep notes with the intention of making a return visit.

Thanks for the link but had already checked this website only to find that most thing shut down before we get to Shelburne, hence the original post. Timothy advised that he would post further info on or after 11 October.

I spend a lot of time on the south shore, north of Shelburne and have to tell you that this delay is typical.
