maryann ns Posted September 16, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2009 I did not know ships went to Shelburne. I would suggest you post this on tripadvisor. Go to forums and then Canada and then Nova Scotia. There are some local experts who should be able to help you.

scotian1 Posted September 16, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2009 Shelburne is now a small town of just over 2,000 people but at one time was the largest town in Nova Scotia as a result of the arrival of the Loyalistf rom the American Thirteen Colonies. Today there are several museums, some craft shops and antique galleries that make the town worth a visit. It also has retainet many buildings that were constructed for the set of the movie; "The Scarlet Letter" which starred Demi Moore. Here is a link to the town's tourism website: http://www.shelburnenovascotia.com/

bandber Posted September 17, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 17, 2009 This newspaper article is heartening. I have been planning excursions for this Balmoral trip and couldn't find anything about what to do in Shelburne on an out of season Sunday. So this is good news! maryann ns Posted September 17, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 17, 2009 Good news for you and for Shelburne. By the way the coastline around there is very beautiful so just renting a car and driving is possible too. I did visit in that area a couple years ago and enjoyed the Pubnico area. bandber Posted September 17, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2009 Thanks Maryann. I hope that there might be a taxi or private hire minibus to hire at the port that would take me on such a tour. I had written to ask how to make the most out of our brief stay in the town so this might well come to pass! I love Nova Scotia, although a brief stay last year, I couldn't wait to get back there!! wcudmore Posted September 17, 2009 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2009 Read "Book of Negroes" by Lawrence Hill (Titled "Somewhere, Someone Knows my Name" in the USA). It's got some interesting historical perspective on the area. Also a fantastically written book.

Have you any idea? I had a small bedroom but friends had the upstairs suite. The place is The Cooper's Inn, across from the Barrel Factory and near the museums. Paul and Pat Dewar own it now and it is as great as ever. Timothy
PennyAgain Posted September 24, 2009 #21 Share Posted September 24, 2009 We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Cooper's Inn. I loved the location. We had a few days before the cottage I rented on the Bay of Fundy in West Advocate was available and make use of our extra days very well. What a beautiful area! We had several great meals and did a little shopping. Thanks to your good memory, I'll keep notes with the intention of making a return visit.
