Charleston is getting a SHIP!!!

Great for Charleston, stinky for West Coast cruisers looking for short getaways. Sure Paradise still remains but getting to Long Beach is a pain and Catalina/Ensenada hold zero appeal, at least for me.

Maybe they could move Paradise down to take over the Cabo route.

The seven day cruise is almost identical to the one we booked on the Pride from Baltimore (HMC, Grand Turk, Nassau vs. HMC, Grand Turk, Freeport) so yeah, we'll be driving around 8 hours to Baltimore from NC compared to 4 to Charleston

Oh well, since it's year round that might mean we'll take our next one from Charleston :D

I wonder if they will finish the Evolution of Fun on the Elation BEFORE it starts full time in Mobile????

In other words......do the 15 day Panama Canal...and then go into drydock before starting full time in Mobile????

That's possible because they can do the upgrade in Mobile. I believe that the Fantasy's upgrade was done there. I only hope they add the balconies!

I just checked the dates and the upgrade will not happen when she gets to Mobile. Leaving on April 30 for a 15 day cruise and then sailing from Mobile starting on May 15. I don't think Carnival is being fair to Mobile.

Not likely, as the 15-night repo starts April 30, 2010. The ship starts sailing from Mobile on May 15, 2010. The Elation just went through drydock in March 2009. Why they didnt do the upgrades then is beyond me.

I think I'd rather they had left the Fantasy in Mobile and moved the Elation to Charleston, though I don't really have any reason for saying that other than the age of the ships. In fact, after the Evolutions of Fun upgrade for all I know the Fantasy is actually preferable to the Elation now.

Hmmm, how long would it take to drive to Charleston from my house. Almost 15 hours, according to Google Maps. That's still awfully long, but if it came down to that it's shorter than driving to Florida.

Well, I'm glad Chucktown is getting a ship. But... Mobile is only 3 hours away and I sure was looking forward to frequenting some long weekends on the Fantasy. I guess it doesn't really matter a whole lot, but I sure hope they do the upgrades on the Elation soon!

What?!

We've been praying for a year-round ship. While the Fantasy would not be my first choice, its better than nothing. We had the Norwegian Majesty for half the year (now gone), we get one Carnival ship twice a year, and we will have one Celebrity ship for a few month next year. Charleston is on the rise!!

Was initially excited since we live in Charlotte -- but I just checked out the ship and it's too bad it's the Fantasy -- no balconies ... no steakhouse ... no thanks! :(

I'm in Charlotte, too. It's all interstate to Charleston, so shouldn't take much more than three hours. Yay! I'm one of the few who would just as soon have an inside or OV cabin and have more money to donate to the casino and bars. :)

I was on the Holiday out of Mobile in June and loved it, and it's smaller than the Elation. We got there two days early to see all the sights but there was a dive bar 25 feet from our hotel (Veet's) where we spent all our time before cruising. I think I had fried oysters with every meal for both days.

HOORAY for Charleston! We lived down there for 10 years and it's a wonderful city and well-deserving of a Carnival ship to call it home!

The Fantasy was our first cruise ship and we loved it! It will be perfect for Charleston and the surrounding area. I'm sure it will sail at full capacity every time it leaves the dock.

Although we haven't sailed a Carnival ship twice, it may be quite possible that the Fantasy will be the first.

Congratulations, Charleston! You deserve it!

Charleston is a great town for pre/post cruise. I hope they add a Bermuda itinerary or something different - Grand Turk. Key West. Half moon Cay. Something different than just Nassau/Freeport. .

I think it said that the 5-day would be Nassau and Freeport, the 6-day would include Key West, and the 7-day would be Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay, and Nassau..... that would make quite a few sea days, but sea days are great, too! Especially if you've been to most of the ports several times.

It's all good! :)
