PizzaPilot Posted September 17, 2009 #26 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I'm in Charlotte' date=' too. It's all interstate to Charleston, so shouldn't take much more than three hours. Yay! I'm one of the few who would just as soon have an inside or OV cabin and have more money to donate to the casino and bars. :)[/quote'] I'm with you! I'm in Charlotte, and we love the Fantasy class ships. A little closer than Jax will make it a little easier to try to sneak in another cruise next year!! bambam2972 Posted September 17, 2009 #27 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I'm so excited! The port is about to do a big renovation so I was hoping to hear news of a year-round ship. I think it would be smarter to either put the terminal at the old navy base OR let the Yorktown sink and build a terminal over there and leave the current terminal for the ships coming as a port of call. (Holy run on sentence, batman!)
Traveler353 Posted September 17, 2009 #28 Share Posted September 17, 2009 That is good news for Charleston, they should have had a ship a long time ago. the Fantasy is a fine ship with all the new bells and whistles And not the worst news for Mobile, the Elation is the same class of ship and will be getting the upgrades in due time (hopefully). jetskier Posted September 17, 2009 #29 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I'm 2 hours away from Mobile...and planned my 2010 cruise. Give me the highlights about the Elation. :o I had already done my homework on The Fantasy. The ships are the same with different decors. Biggest difference is that the Fantasy has the Waterworks upgrade. The Elation has Camp Carnival on Deck 12 FWD instead of Deck 9 AFT. Fantasy built in 1990 and the Elation in 1998. bguppies Posted September 17, 2009 #31 Share Posted September 17, 2009 So happy we are getting a Fantasy class (THE Fantasy) ship... Our favorite class. Can't wait to price our two annual cruises from home versus the various Florida ports. scchasgal Posted September 17, 2009 #32 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I am so excited since I have been on quite a few out of Charleston and was hoping they were getting something shorter than the Celebrity 10 and 11 day cruises. When the announcement by the Port Authority was made yesterday to clean up the nasty passenger terminal area I just had a feeling something was up - and yep there sure was home port for Charleston is back YIPPEE

bayou cruiser Posted September 17, 2009 #34 Share Posted September 17, 2009 Great news for Charleston. I just got off the Fantasy on Monday and it was an awesome trip. The best advice I can offer is if you can't have a balcony cabin, book an inside on the Verandah level. Walk outside and you have a huge balcony overlooking the Lido and the pool. And you'll never need to wait for the elevator because you're only a couple of decks from everything. This was my first Carnival cruise and I would go back in a heartbeat. No complaints for a short cruise.
pinkmonkey14 Posted September 17, 2009 #35 Share Posted September 17, 2009 Charleston is a great town for pre/post cruise. I hope they add a Bermuda itinerary or something different - Grand Turk. Key West. Half moon Cay. Something different than just Nassau/Freeport. . Go Clemson :)! I agree I hope they do something else then just the Bahamas! navybaby1113 Posted September 17, 2009 #36 Share Posted September 17, 2009 I was hoping the exciting news that John Heald mentioned yesterday was going to be about the Magic. That's awesome for Charleston though.

Many of our sailors served aboard her during her lifetime and the ship is deserving of the much appreciation that's due to her! Put the new terminal at the old navy base! And leave Patriot's Point alone! :cool:Bill

We are only 3 1/2 hours away so it will be nice to have another cruise ship that close.

It should be in great shape and ready to sail out of Charleston. I am excited!! There's already a thread started for a possible group cruise leaving there on the Fantasy on Sept. 11, 2010 with Stowaway Freddy. We cruised with Flamingo Freddy on the Glory in May and had an absolute blast, so I already added my name to the list, because I love that the itinerary includes stops at Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. Who else wants in on the fun? Go sign up if you're interested!
LHP Posted September 18, 2009 Author #43 Share Posted September 18, 2009 One good thing is that the folks around Mobile will be able to cruise on the Fantasy for several months..... then they will have a new ship to explore!!!

DarthGrady Posted September 18, 2009 #45 Share Posted September 18, 2009 Sorry if I missed it, but does this mean that the West coast will have only one ship doing short cruises?
