Discounts for future cruise?

I have heard that Carnival offers discounts for a future cruise while you are on a cruise. (I've tried to re-write that sentence a few times, hope it makes sense).

Does anyone know about this? I sail in October and am already looking forward to a birthday cruise in June 2010.

Any help and information would be greatly appreciated.

You can buy probably as many next cruise certificates as you want I guess. I bought 3. Someone else posted they bought 5. How many do you want to buy at once?

 

You dont get a discount. You do get OBC on a future cruise, depending on how many days long the cruise is. They are only sold on 5 ships so far. (you can do a search to find other threads about this which list the 5 ships). Im packing....or Id do it. yippee.

As I understand it, yes. You pay for the voucher which gives you that same amount towards a future cruise. The benefit is that you get an OBC for doing this.

I don't blame ya! If I could be packing right now to leave in the morning and cruising for two weeks, I'd not be searching for threads neither!

 

Alas, I have 41 days more to go before cruising, so here we go, the ships that currently sell the future cruise certificates:

Liberty, Freedom, Conquest, Valor and Splendor

And my ship's name is not in that list. Arrghhh

From what I've read by searching on 'future cruise voucher' it appears you are safe in still only being wrong once before.

We bought "certificates" last year on the Conquest. Each certificate was $100. Good for $100 toward the deposit on a future cruise, plus onboard credits of $50 for a 3-5 day cruise, or $100 on a 7-8 day cruise, or $200 on 12 days or longer cruise. The certificate is good for 5 years. We forgot to use one on the next cruise we booked. But we just booked an early saver cruiser for next year and the pvp said "no problem". We had to pay the full $500 deposit, but we will mail in the certificate to get $100 credit on the cruise. We will keep the onboard credit portion of the certificate and take it with us when we embark and get our onboard credit at the pier. The onboard credit is not good for gratuities or in the casino.

The certificates cost $100 as the post says, however they are NOT worth a $100 discount to me, as the $100 subtracted is the $100 you paid ... to me subtracting your own $100 is NOT a discount, you paid for it.

 

You do get OBC, but not matching what you paid, it depends on the length of the cruise $50 5 day, $75 6 day, or $100 7 day, up to $200 I think if you want to sign up for that Elation panama transit cuise.

 

Ill be on Conquest tomorrow who is one of the 5 ships that sells them. I think the top is $200, but Im sure they will have a sign out again.

 

Im supposed to be out of here and on the road in 10 minutes ... so just hitting the high points while eating breakfast... Crazies here I come.

 

I dont know why people keep posting you get a $100 discount. You send in the certificate which costs $100 and they apply the correct amount of OBC for the length of your cruise and subtract the $100 from your final payment. (or someone told me if past final payment then they refund it, but Iv sent mine in before final payment.).

 

PS to the above poster who thinks instead of following the directions, sending it in certified mail that he is just going to bring it with him and get it applied later ... Id read the back of the certificate. I hear not sending it certified is even a issue.. follow the directions.

 

You do not get money off the deposit... it comes off later when you mail it in. I wouldnt count on getting it applied at the pier!!!! Honestly .... read the directions.

So,,, if I buy two certificates for 200 I can use them on a future cruise and then get 200 OBC on the same cruise? Seems like a good deal to me!

The certificates can only be purchased on the five ships listed above. The certificate costs $100 and that $100 is applied toward your cruise balance. You have to have a cruise booked to send in the certificate because you have to enter your booking number. You still send it in to Carnival regardless of who you booked with. The bonus comes in the form of an OBC which varies depending on the length of the cruise from $50 to $200. We purchased 4 in March and 3 more last week. If you can't use them in 5 years you send them in and get your money back. We booked last week's 7 day cruise after final payment so we got $200 OBC. This is combinable with shareholder credit, past guest, easy saver, and senior. I don't believe it can be used with the military discount. You have to send the certificate in certified mail and you can't wait until you get to the pier to claim the credit.

 

If you're going to sail Carnival in the next 5 years it's a great deal and you can't lose. I just wish they were available on more ships.

I forgot to add that only one certificate can be used per cabin per cruise and only half of the credit is available for solo cruisers.

Ok,, now that makes more sense.. I couldn't figure out why the OBC's didn't match the amount of vouchers purchased.. I can see clearly now..
