tcocktail Posted September 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2009 Next June we will be on Celebrity Century. One of the ports is Salerno. Has anyone docked at this what? What did you do? Where you able to get to Capri and back. We will be there all day 7AM to 7PM. Or would we be better going into Salerno and getting to Amalfi and REvello. Maybe this is a beach day? Rare Hlitner Posted September 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2009 There are jetboats that go between Salerno and Capri, but there are only about 4 a day in each direction. The boats to Capri leave in the morning and most of the return boats are in the afternoon. So, if you want to go to Capri just get yourselves to the ferry pier as early as possible. As to Amalfi and Ravello, you can get to both of those places quite easily by just taking the local bus from Salerno to Amalfi. In Amalfi, you can than get a different bus that would take you up the hill to Ravello. You would have to choose between going to Capri or Amalfi/Ravello since doing both in a port day would be a big stretch. Hank

Hank Hank, thank you, would you go to Capri or is it too much of a risk missing the ship? What would you do if you were pulling into this port? When you mention speed boats are you speaking about the hydrofoil? Thank you Thomas
Rare Hlitner Posted September 21, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 21, 2009 There are some hydrofoils, but there are also jetboats which are somewhat larger than the hydrofoils. They both take about the same amount of time and we are never sure which kind of boat is on which route, but it does not really make much difference. We prefer the larger jetboats because they have an open top deck as well as an enclosed lower deck. The hydrofoils are all enclosed. We would have no problem going to Capri from Salerno as long as you make sure the return schedule works for your ship. Chances are that your ship will offer a tour to Capri that will use the same boats, except they will charge you more money. Personally, we would not be concerned about missing the ship as long as the weather is good. The boat lines that run the Amalfi Coast routes are very reliable and normally very much on schedule. Hank Thank you Hank. RCCL (Brilliance of the Seas) has just changed schedule from Naples to Salerno. We were planning on going to Capri but am wondering whether to go to Amalfi and Positano instead. You said it is easy to get the bus to Amalfi. What about to Positano? How long would the bus take to get from Salerno to Amalfi and then Positano? Any other suggestions? Thank you. As it is September will ferries still be running at normal schedule? Would ferries be a better option in getting from Salerno to Amalfi and then onto Positano?
