Comfortsuites on Federal near 17th St Causeway is nice, has shuttles both ways

non smoking...pool..and can walk to many nice restaurants, wine/liquor store, drug stores etc

There are other good options on the 17th St Causeway....EmbassySuites is nice, great breakfast and a free drinks happy hour weeknights.

Hyatt Grand is good too....Comfortsuites will be the cheaper option

I personally would rather stay in that area than on state rd 84 (sketchy at night)

The Sterling area is OK...but more suburban, lots of chain stores

17th Causeway is right by the Port, also is the Yachting area of Fort Lauderdale. so there are many interesting "boating" stores, shops, NON chain stores, good restaurants

some of the restaurants there are on the water and give a nice feel for kicking off your cruise

This will probably get moved to the Florida board...and you may get other ideas there

We stayed at the Springhill Suites Airport in FLL in June. They have shuttles and a great breakfast. Big rooms/suites to store your luggage over night. We sailed out of Miami, so we had a private shuttle take us to the port, but if you sail out of FLL, they have a shuttle for a small fee and you have to sign up for that. Nice place and very friendly staff.

The Hyatt Place is a wonderful hotel. It's on 17th Street also. They offer free shuttles from the airport and to the port (you have to sign up on the list for the port shuttle). We've stayed here twice. The staff is extremely nice also. Try valuetrips.com for the best price.

We got a rate of $107 at LaQuinta (Hollywood) includes shuttle from airport and also shuttle to Port. Includes continental breakfast. This is for Jan. 1 and I know the price has gone up since I booked a couple of months ago. Holiday season. Glad I booked early. Can't find anything else for this price at any of the hotels in the area. My understanding is that it is quite close, just south of the airport and port Everlades.

My suggestion would be to book early. You could always keep checking and cancel right up to 6 hrs before arriving.

Yes that is close...the airport and Cruise port in Fort Lauderdale are so close together...really well planned I feel...and there are a number of hotels around there

that will offer shuttles free to both :)

This is (brag brag) also a really wonderful area to enjoy pre cruise or post cruise

State Rd. 84 is also known as 24th Ave. Some hotels may give their address as something, something SE or SW 24th Ave. State Rd. 84 is not a bad area, but for someone who is not from the Ft. Lauderdale area, it can definitely appear to be "sketchy" due to the fact that it is not polished. It is a safe area, but, that said, I would not walk down State Rd. 84 at night, but I would in the daytime. The Winn-Dixie shopping plaza on SR 84 is perfectly safe day or night, but don't walk there at night unless you are staying at the Hampton Inn that is directly adjacent to it---just 'cause you never know. That said, anyplace on SE 17th is a better location.

Just got the Hyatt Place FLL Airport North on Priceline tonight for $70 per night for 1/1/10. We got 5 rooms. The hotel offers free shuttles to port and airport, free cont. brkfst, heated pool, 42 in. flat screen tvs in all rooms, and is close to restaurants and Publix (grocery store). Their website lists $237 for best available rate so very happy with the rate I got on Priceline!

Yes we are. What rate did you get and where are you from? I'm sure we will meet up with you somewhere. If you have cruised out of Lauderdale before maybe you can give us some pointers. I haven't cruised in almost 15 years and things appear to have changed a lot since then.

Only 98 more days. Can't wait.

I think my rate is $90 (I booked with AAA). This is my first cruise, and I will be solo. I have never been to FFL either. LOL. Needless to say, I can not wait!! I am ready to go now!! I arriving on the 31st - it was cheaper to fly in on NYE than NYD. I am hoping our roll call increases over the next weeks and we get a meet and greet. I am sooo excited.

We stayed at the bahiaMar Beach Resort & Yachting Club...it was very well priced and we just took a taxi to the ports. Made arrangements for same taxi to pick us up and return us to the airport, he gave us his cell number, he was there pronto.

They have a nice pool & bar area and a walkway over the road to the beach.

Totally agree with this one !

Good sized room, right next to a good shopping mall, nice free breakfast, and a 15-minute cab ride to the Hard Rock Casino !

Yes, free shuttle to port......not far away.

Here is a good site for Fort Lauderdale...

http://www.sunny.org

shhh....here is a tip....many of the things that people pay to do in the Islands can be done here, and often cheaper....parasail, catamaran sails, etc

Yes, it is the Atlantic, so rougher and darker than Carribean...but our beach??> Beautiful....unlike many places (hello Miami, Boca) our laws never allowed the hotels to build on the beach...so the whole beach is public..

we had a big renovation and have beautiful winding "walls" along the sidewalk...on the other side of the street are restaurants, hotels

we have a really neat intercoastal network ...take a little day cruise or just get a water taxi pass and that takes you by all the mansions, you can get on and off the water taxi at many neat bars and restaurants like Shooters, Downtowner etc

Las Olas is a must see...very European in feel, many little sidewalk cafes,

very classy...lots of good restaurants that are not "chains"

The Himarshee area nearby is very trendy and has lots of clubs, gets a younger crowd

You can go to the Hard Rock in Hollywood Florida and gamble, see shows,

party in fantastic clubs...really nice (even tho they have smoking...eeek....cause it is Indian territory)

Malls??? We "got em">>> Galleria is very nice...nice restaurants there...Trulocks....Blue Martini for a drink (Ladies ask ...get a free martini...pickup a tourist guide at your hotel and get a coupon for free martini for both men and women)

in fact we have tons of deals here...coupons and coupon books...check your hotel, check the stands on the street...deals everywhere

Happy hours, free appetizers, free drinks....we have gazoodles of restaurants and clubs. Grab a free newspaper or coupon book

Crazy tee shirts and cruddy souveniers?? anything you can think of

why buy a souveiner from China in Mexico when you can buy it here haha

Oh...also the Sawgrass Mills Mall is good...huge...that is a tourist attraction in it's own right

another idea is the Everglades...pre or post cruise

really a whole other world, an environment that is found only in Florida...

see gators out in the wild....the places usually have other stuff too

Sawgrass recreational Center is nice...airboats, a picnic area...they have wildlife rescured from the wild, (injured) and rehabbed...

they have a 1000 lb gator who is the star of the show LOL

Lots to do here, hopefully you can enjoy it along with your cruise

We always stay here in Fort Lauderdale.... 5 minutes to port.......

http://www.fortlauderdalemarinahotel.com/

Looks great!! I am looking for a place to stay pre-cruise to the Miracle in 2011.

But I could not find on the site anything about airport or port transportation. Do they provided transportation from the airport and to the port??
