question for GLOBALISER re BA 's just announced new policy

I hear today on the news that as of next month , that "booking a specific seat charge" will become effective.

Does this mean

a) if you choose not to book and pay the charge ( between £10 and £60???) for a specific seat ....are you then left with choosing your seat from the "leftovers" at minus 24 hours?

b) if you want to use any BA miles against a "seat only" purchase will this new policy be involved ?Will it be an extra charge in money or miles accrued?

If you book before the actual start date of this policy how will it impact us?

c) if you allow your cruiseline to book and purchase your flight(s) with BA ( their preferred airline in many cases) how will you be able to make a seat selection through the cruise line if you want to pay the extra cost for a specific choice seat..via the Record locator personally after booking or will this have to be done by the cruiseline arranging it for you????

d) we are already confirmed travellers next month and fly very late in the month...assuming this policy is in force then will we be affected? The new rule on one bag plus charge for second etc apparently should not affect us as we booked before this was announced ...wondered if the same will apply to this new development policy too?

We'd appreciate any answers you can offer, thank you.

Several of your questions may not have working answers yet; the scheme is too new. However, here's an internal .pdf Q & A that might help -

Thank you for your information as in Speedbird... I have had some response from BA to an email to them but they have not given much that helps us.

We are World Traveller clients flying 29 Oct to Newark and back from MIAmi 22 Nov ...does the 10 to 4 days ahead rule mean we will have to try to phone BA from somewhere in the caribbean depending on where we are on that date for the inbound flight ( we think either St Thomas or St Maarten?? depending on whether the 10 /4 days ahead counts the day of travel as day 10 or 4?) and are these islands US or just Caribbean islands and what is their dedicated BA number there?? How do we get the booking to acquire the letters to identify it as "wishing to seat select by payment" as mentioned in the speedbird info???

I greatly appreciate you help, thank you.

That's an internal document for staff reference.

When you pay for the seat assignment the agent will add the letters to some field on your booking to indicate it has been paid.
