Starting Alli on Sunday!

I feel so ridiculous resorting to this! I'm a Lifetime member of Weight Watchers, and I know how to eat healthfully! I know that losing weight is a permanent lifestyle change more than anything else; but once I get down to where I should be, those bad little behaviors always come back...

Anyway, I'm going to start taking Alli on Sunday. I figure it'll be a good way to get me "jump started". Just the thought of those nasty side effects if I don't behave myself should be enough to keep me on track!

Anyone else out there new to Alli? How are you doing? Problems? Results?

Please share with me!!!

Ok, so I'm three days into this...so far, so good! I've been behaving myself (no more than 15 grams of fat/meal), so no icky "treatment effects". Hurray for that! I won't weigh myself 'til Sunday, but I can already tell that my jeans are a little bit looser. :)

One week down...6.8 pounds lost! No treatment effects, either! I didn't do anything other than what I normally do when I'm trying to drop weight: keeping a food journal, keeping my calories to between 1,200 - 1,300/day, etc. I'm a constant snacker, and it's usually something greasy & salty or loaded with sugar that I snack on, but I've managed to keep that in check. So far, so good. I'm going to keep taking Alli for another three weeks, then decide whether I want to make a go of it without it.

And Toonville2, I'm sorry it didn't work for you. It's weird, isn't it, how some people just don't get the desired results?!? I know two people who stopped after a couple of weeks because the scale just wasn't budging.

Hi Jen! I've been on Alli for about 8 weeks now and I've lost 15 pounds. Some weeks I don't lose anything but I make up for it the next. I really don't have much to lose but I'm enjoying the new low cal, low fat diet I'm on. :)

I have had no treatment effects whatsoever and plan on being on Alli until about 2 weeks pre-cruise.

My sister & I went to Kohl's about 4 weeks ago and some of my new clothes are already a bit loose!

Congrats on the 6.8 pound loss in your first week!

I think if dieting plus Alli isn't working then it's just that calories are sneaking in there somehow, like frappuchino's, soda, other things with alot of calories you just don't think about. Even raisins have a ton of calories (all sugar I guess).

Good Luck - though it doesn't sound like you need it as your making awesome progress already.

It seems our bodies are like bank accounts, if we are depositing more than we are withdrawing then the account gets bigger, if we deposit less then we shrink. I truly believe that is the only way it works.

Things like Alli are great because it helps us deposit less of what we actually take in, and it has the 'side effects' that also keep us in check. Being a weight watchers lifer and knowing what you are doing must help tremendously too.

I was able to get a 2 month supply a while back at Costco but it's been sitting around... I sometimes get "treatment effects" without taking it normally. But over the last month or so the scale's been going north for no apparant reason and I think I've got to try something. I'm also supposed to go for surgery in january and after seeing the mri with my "fat pad" (stomach) gives me more reason to do something drastic. Who knows maybe if I can knock off a bit of the weight I've been carrying and get a "saggy" skin on stomach the surgeon could do a little bit of a tummy tuck while I'm under.

Week 2 - 2.2 lbs. lost (9 lbs. total) !

I'm pretty happy with that; my goal is 1.5 - 2 lbs. per week 'til I hit somewhere in the 145 - 150 range. (When I did Weight Watchers the last time I got down to 138, but people told me I was too thin, and it was really hard to maintain.)

Stayed on track all week; ate somewhere between 1,200 and 1,300 calories a day. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, etc. When I wanted a snack I grabbed an apple or ate 10 or 12 almonds, and I was ok with that. The big thing for me is listening to my body, not my brain; my brain tells me I'm hungry all of the time, and I know that's not the case! ;)

BarbaraSails - Nothing on the packaging about not taking Alli if you're on estrogen. The only thing it mentions specifically is not to take it if you've had an organ transplant, because it could interfere with the anti-rejection drugs. (Yikes!)

Sue402001 - Hurray for you! Keep us posted! And I know what you mean about enjoying the new way of eating; I can't believe how much better I feel! (I will admit, though, that I went to McDonalds this morning and had a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit! I hate McDonalds, except for their breakfast sandwiches, and I really, really wanted one! But it's grilled chicken and steamed veggies for dinner tonight, so I should be ok!)

Congrats on more weight loss Jenbo!

I'm finally at the 15 pound mark and I feel so much better. I'm just taking my time and I definitely enjoy my food more now than before. It's fun finding foods you like especially when they have a fat free version that's not funny tasting. Tomorrow will be a challenge for me as we're heading to a casino and will have the breakfast buffet. I will have a alli pill with me though and I pray that no effects get to me. ;)

Have a great week all!

Congratulations!! I swear by ALLI.............it isn't a quick fix method and you definitely have to do your share of groundwork. The website is a tremndous tool for tracking calories in and calories out through exercise.

When I plug in my food choices and see the nutritional facts and calories, I am "trained" to make better choices.

I'm down 13 pounds in 5 weeks and some weeks the scale didn't budge. Hang in there!

Well, I've been debating doing this diet and after reading this I think I will go in the morning and get a bottle to try it. Wow 1200-1300 calories sounds hard, but I've done it in the past so will try. I also, don't like journaling, but understand it helps.

I didn't know they had so much on their website. I'm headed there next to check it out.

I only have 4 weeks until I sail, but even 10 lbs would help me physically and mentally.

Suggestions for snacks, ideas for meals, etc. are welcome!

Thanks!

Congratulations on all the weight loss. For those of you considering this method, here's what the Mayo Clinic says:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/alli/WT00030

Note the side affects and who should not be taking it. Also check out the amount of weight loss Alli creates over and above diet and excercise, over a year's time.

And finally, the FDA is looking into possible liver damage from use of Alli.

Just be aware and take care in using any over-the counter diet aids.

Ok, so at the end of week four I'm down 12.6 pounds total! Very, very happy with these results! I'm writing everything down, staying within that 1,200 - 1,300 calorie range, and if I decide that I just have to have that Coke or a candy bar I do it, and I factor it into my calorie count for the day.

I've got 16 more pounds to lose, and a cruise in 7 weeks. I'm not figuring I'll drop all that before we go, but it'd be nice to drop half of it!

Congrats to everyone else who's doing well; stay with it! :)

Congrats on your weight loss Jenbo. I bet you'll be close to your goal by your cruise. I have heard that if you don't stop the pill taking before your cruise you will have effects sneak up on you. Just for that reason, I'm only going to be on it for another 3 weeks or 1.5 pounds - which ever comes first.

  • 2 weeks later...

Cautiously took one Alli at each meal. No effects... one way or another.

Wonder if I should take 2 pills instead of one to see... each meal did have some fat in it.

Wondering how long the Ali stays in one's system since I will be traveling on Wednesday and won't have easy access to bathrooms. Would just not take a pill AND practically eliminate all fat on Tueday/Wednesday?

Any help would be appreciated.

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn!

My sister has taken this before (my first time) and told us to stop taking it about 2 weeks before we cruise. I've stopped taking it now and my hubby will soon. It can stay in your system for a few days so I'd stay cut back on your fat intake.

I've been thinking about tryin Alli. But, I just started taking estrogen and I'm wondering if it will clash with taking Alli.

I need to get to Walgreens and read to box to see if there are any chemical conflicts taking the two.

Ask the pharmacist they will be able to help you.

funny thing, started it on Friday... haven't been feeling "anything"

and haven't really adjusted diet any more... no effects.

I'm wondering if it's even "working"... to test it out on Saturday I had some steak (rib steak) so it wasn't that lean at all. No effects at all... nothing. Was prepared for some "montezuma" but nada. It will be interesting if the scale budges one iota.

When I first started taking Alli I was doubtful too as I had no side affects whatsoever. My first week I lost 4 pounds! I never did have any loose stools or anything while my hubby still does. It effects each body differently. I'm sure you'll be surprised when you step on the scale. I am now off Alli and maintaining so so far so good.
