Fascination muster drill question-help please

I am taking my mom [aged 85] on her first Carnival cruise, and I am concerned about getting her to and from the muster drill, especially if we meet in one place and have to move to another. She does manage to walk with a stick, but it takes her a while. Also she cannot cope well with stairs. Does anyone know what alternatives or crew assistance would be available. I really want her to start the cruise with a positive experience and not feel uncomfortable.

Thanks for any advice.:)

From my experience if she is unable to make the stairs just let the crew that is stationed around during the drill know. They will let the two of you take the elevator. Be aware that after the drill everyone is allowed to use the elvators so plan on waiting a while.

If you think the muster station is too far from your room you could leisurely arrive to that station very early and let your mom sit. You could then go back to the room and get the lifejackets.

They will work with you. I do know that on some ships I have been told just to stay in my stateroom!

When we did the muster drill in July, we met in a lounge then had to go out and up a flight of stairs.

They did announce that any1 with mobility problems could just stay in the lounge.

On the Fascination, your Muster Station will be one of the lounges on the ship (contrary to muster stations on other ships where you stand right by your lifeboat).

This means that you will be comfortably seated during the muster drill. My recommendation is that you head to the lounge/muster station early (before they even announce the drill) and take a seat. That way your mother wont have to rush or battle the crowds. Once the drill is over, give everybody time to exit the lounge and for the stairs to clear.

The ship crew is trained to handle passengers that are not as mobile, but by doing what I recommended, you'r probably going to make it much easier on your mom...

JMSS Have you considered suggesting to her a rolled walker. The kind with the seat on it. I have found it incredibly helpful if the seas are at all rolling and also for fatigue with the walking. Our room always seems to be on the opposite end of the ship as the dining room.

Also you can request a stool for the shower so that both of you will have something to help balance you when cleaning up if the seas are moving (aren't they always moving?!?)

Call Carnival and let them know your Mom doesn't do stairs....and then go to the Guest Services as soon as you board and confirm they have the information. There is a process in place for folks like your Mom and for those in wheelchairs, etc. They will give you further information.

Not to worry, they will make sure your Mom gets to the muster station easily....she will have an escort.

they make several announcements about people needing assistence- a crew member will assist you Please do not even worry about this- there is no need. A crew member will even come to your cabin and help you get to where you need to be- they will make sure you have plenty of time as well!
