HELP - 8hrs to kill post cruise NYC

What can we do for 8 hrs post cruise before our plane leaves JFK? We will have our bags of course. I do not want to sit in the airport for all that time! Our ship docks at Red Hook on a Sat.

How about taking a cab to Schwartz Travel in the west 30's, check your bags, wander around midtown for several hours (Macy's, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Empire State), pick up your bags and take a cab or car service to JFK? I think the cab fare to JFK is a fixed rate, so the only extra is the cab from the Brooklyn pier to Manhattan and the baggage check fee.

Yes...fixed at $45 plus tolls (should be zero) and gratuity.
