cruisesusie Posted October 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2009 Does anyone know how long it takes to get to Heathrow from Southampton? I'm trying to decide on the time for a flight. Thanks, Susan
tally10 Posted October 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2009 If you go by private car, it is about 2 hours. On our last trip, it was an early sunday morning and it took about an hour and a half with no traffic. As far as by bus or train, someone else will have to help you with that one. Good luck. cruisesusie Posted October 3, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted October 3, 2009 Thanks, Tally10, for your response. We'll be going on a Sat. morning so we probably won't have too much traffic either. Susan
sddsddean Posted October 4, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 4, 2009 Does anyone know how long it takes to get to Heathrow from Southampton? I'm trying to decide on the time for a flight. Thanks, Susan Your best option other than a private car (and much cheaper) is the National Express coach. The bus station is only 5 mins from the cruise terminal (about £5 cab) and the coach fare is about £15. There are coaches at 7am, 8am, 8.30am (and then every hour at 30 mins past until...) 11.30am. Timetabled travelling time is about 1hr 50mins (so use 2 hrs for planning). The bus station at Heathrow is under Terminals 1,2 and 3, but if you have to go to T4 or T5, there is a free shuttle. Lets assume you get the 9.30, that puts you at Heathrow at 1130. Although its a hassle to sit around the airport for the 3hr check in period, I don't think I'd go for anything before 3pm, though you would probably be OK a bit earlier if you did 'walk off disembarkation' and got a bus a couple of hours earlier for say, a 1.30pm flight. Your call!! http://www.nationalexpress.com/coach/index.cfm Simon

Susan Saturday mornings is perhaps the worst time to travel Heathrow to Southampton during the summer months. The Motorway down to Southampton is one of the main routes from London down to the coast. As a result on a Saturday morning during the summer months severe traffic congestion is routine as both day trippers and domestic holidaymakers head off to the coast and Devon and Cornwall. This type of holiday traffic its very prone to major accidents as well with the motorway often closed down as a result.

Globaliser Posted October 5, 2009 #9 Share Posted October 5, 2009 Helicopter from Eastleigh airport takes fifteen minutes which is the quickest way.Ha! I'd like to see that! 46 nm in 15 minutes = 184 knots average speed. You'd have to have a pretty super-duper helicopter to achieve such a speed, let alone taking into account all the ATC and slot problems.
