Inaugural Dream cruisers cheated on entertainment

The roll call thread didn't have much activity either, just remember the comment there on the entertainment, dislike of cruise director, and problems with internet.

I would think with taking the time to post here, it would have been nice if she had provided a little more detail, etc. She seems to be hung up on the lack of entertainment though. I however thought the Med sailings would be pretty port intensive, etc.

I suppose you have to consider the first couple of voyages of a new ship to be "dry runs". I work for a somewhat prominent restaurant chain, and when we open a new restaurant in a new location, very little is perfect the first week or more. You can train a new staff all you want before opening day, but you only get the 'knocks' out when you serve real guests. I think our customers realize that they are the guinea pigs and cut the staff a few breaks in the beginning.

Would be nice if you'd tell us about the ship' date=' what it looks like, how's the shopping, the food and service.....

Guess not....:([/quote']

Or perhaps in the two hours and four minutes between her original post and yours, there hasn't been enough time to compose the much more inclusive review what we'd all like to read.

Sometimes unpacking and life just get in the way. Darn it.

7CK: Will look forward to more info when you get the chance, Thanks! :)

From reading various reviews and posts on here, I agree that shakedown/inagural or whatever cruises can have some bumps and glitches...

surely some good things about the cruise tho?? Did it have that "new car/ship" smell?

Yes it was reported Cigar smoke everwhere. Smoking all over the Casino!!

I am sure that there were more good things about the cruise to even describe, but unfortunately many people feel better about focusing on the negative. Did people really want to be compensated for lack of shows? There was not another thing to do besides go to a show? Hmmm....

In defense of CCL, let me say...

Carnival Dream is to sail a 7-8 day routine (or so), and in that time period they would usually have only two production shows, plus the tidbit at the Welcome Aboard show. To expect more shows than that on a 12 day cruise is unreal. I sailed the inaugural of the Star Princess in 2002, and in 26 days we had only two production shows. I puzzled about that until I realized she was going to be sailing 7 day cruises from LA, and that was all they would need on a week cruise. We did see older shows, scaled down, in a smaller lounge. Shows I had seen three years before on Royal Princess. EM

Common sense seldom helps on Cruise Critic. ;)

I am just excited to be going on the ship.. heck, the warm caribbean in December vs cold CT.. no choice! But just curious, most of the kinks should be worked out by the 12/12 sailing ya think? I know it will be the first western caribbean sailing so I am expecting a few glitches...

I know they were having technical glitches, the web-cam has been down for about three days...and somebody on-board said they were having problems with the computers they have all over the ship......Dennis

Not surprising...

We as CC members have a huge advantage. Most of us have learned that sailing a brand new ship or even one just fresh out of dry dock can be somewhat disappointing.

I remember when I sailed the Miracle the first time, she was about 4 months old, and I was SO happy that by then all the glitches were worked out and had an amazing cruise, because the first couple sailings on her brought back some negative reviews....Glitches up the wazoo.

For people who don't know about CC and don't get all the information and knowledge we get through other people's experiences, getting on a brand new ship would probably seem like a GREAT idea.

But we know better...thanks to people like the OP who come on here.

(Although I'd still like to see more of a review and not just a 2 sentence *poop*-and run)
