staceyverdino Posted January 5, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2005 We are sailing on AOS on 1/9 and read somewhere that you have to clear customs when you dock in St. Thomas. Has anyone experienced this? Can you lete me know what to expect? Is it a total disaster? Thanks!
alcpa1 Posted January 5, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2005 If everyone complies it is a snap. You just pass by customs officials on board and show them your passport/id. It does take a while, but the ships have it down pat. Don't fret. Enjoy your cruise.
ToddWelch Posted January 5, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2005 I thought that they take your passport when you board the ship? How do you show it to them if Carnival has it? Todd
Konagold Posted January 5, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2005 We will be sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to San Juan, and then to St. Thomas without visiting a foreign port in between. Will we have to clear customs at either stop, or will we be exempt having just sailed from one american port to another?
4cruzin Posted January 5, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2005 We just got off the Mariner and all we had to do was parade through the dining room, show our passport to the officials there, they marked our seapass and we could get off the ship. No waiting around, piece of cake!

smceown Posted January 6, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 6, 2005 Your passport is taken upon boarding if you are not an American citizen - so what do we Canadians do?

BobBeaSea Posted February 5, 2005 #10 Share Posted February 5, 2005 If you are a non U.S. citizen your passport may be held by the ship. If that happens usually non U.S. passengers will go to a different room to be processed and the ship will have your passports on hand at that time. The nature of the beast!:)
stan wood Posted February 5, 2005 #11 Share Posted February 5, 2005 Stormlover, It's like getting on the ship, birth cert. and ID work fine. It was inconvenient getting up early, but if you go to bed the night before (yeah, right) it's no big deal.
