nycruise Posted October 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2009 Someone who sailed the Dream on the first cruise stated: "We had a cove balcony starboard. It was very private and wind protected while at sea, but on this itinerary we were facing the port one story up from the dock." Was wondering if this could be a security problem, with the possibility of someone getting access to balcony while in port. Particularly on an overnight stay such as Venice. tikimon Posted October 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2009 Highly unlikely that this type of thing would happen. They would have to be carrying around a ladder to make it possiable and I'm sure that security is post on decks in overnight ports.
rosebud6362 Posted October 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2009 I don't really know, but maybe you could just keep the balcony door locked?
jules815 Posted October 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2009 "Private and wind protected" Awesome!! One story up from the dock will be a great view to watch people running to make the ship! More awesomeness! I can't wait to see some pictures!
*Mach* Posted October 8, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2009 Every port is equipped with 'bumpers' that keep the ship from rubbing against the dock and potentially causing damage. You can see them in this image: http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff313/mach_man/Conquest%203/IMG_1960.jpg They're about three feet in diameter. That, and the extra climb required to get to the Main Deck would seem to be deterrent enough. Also, consider that the security at ANY port is quite good since 9/11. I don't think there's a thing to worry about. :)

jules815 Posted October 8, 2009 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2009 Are the cove balconies much smaller than a regular balcony cabin? Not a biggie for us, since it's just my husband and I. Curious though. When I looked at the mock up video on youtube with John Heald, it looks like the balconies might be deeper?

I bet after Dream does it's little sailings out of NY we'll be able to find lots of pictures on webshots.com. Usually cruise lines will do some sailings exclusively for travel agents, and they take pictures during tours and post them.

semichigan Posted October 8, 2009 #16 Share Posted October 8, 2009 Where did I read about the cove balconies being so close to the water line that they may have to close them off if there are rough seas? Anyone else heard that? I don't know that I'm comfortable with water on my balcony...although I don't ever remember water splashing up on the window in any oceanview cabin I've been in. Thoughts? These cabins are one deck lower than the Cat 12 cabins on the Fantasy class that they resemble in balcony design. The last time I was on the Inspiration, in cabin U93, on two separate mornings I walked out on my balcony to find the deck awash... with salt water... Yep... the waves MAY make it to the Cove balconies and that's part of the attraction... :)

oceanseagle12 Posted October 9, 2009 #22 Share Posted October 9, 2009 What exactly is a cove balcony or cove cabin? These are balconies on Carnival Dream, deck 2. They are different because they are closer to the water. They are enclosed.
