kg315 Posted October 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 25, 2009 We're sailing on the Windsurf next June from Venice to Rome and are researching low(er) priced hotels/BB/etc. for 2-3 nights on both ends. We don't plan on spending alot of time in the room, just need a clean place to sleep. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Traval Posted October 26, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2009 We can recommend the Gea di Vulcano in Rome where we have stayed twice prior to taking Windsurf from Civitavecchia. It's on via ****onale and about ten minutes walk from Termini station. In Venice we used the Hotel Abbazia. It's a former monastery and near to the vaporetto stop and not too far from the stazione marittima. We were also very pleased with this choice. danapoint1 Posted October 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted October 27, 2009 we stayed twice in Venice and stayed at Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo. rated #3 on trip advisor. Clean relatively inexpensive and in a quiter neighborhood with great little local restaurants in the area.
mbaskin Posted November 1, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 1, 2009 Have also stayed at Al Ponte Mocenigo and found it to be a delightful place in all respects. Location near a vaporetto stop, staff very helpful, our rooms (we stayed at start and finish of our Croatia cruise) were excellent and we would stay there again any time we are in Venice. Highly recommended!
timandnancy Posted November 20, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 20, 2009 Just back from an Azamara Cruise, stayed 1 night in Venice pre-cruise. Got the Hotel Ala (a Best Western) on Orbitz for around $250. 10 minute walk to St. Mark's and very near a vaparetto stop. Free breakfast, cheap wi-fi, nice room. Also has a stop for a private water taxi.

We have stayed twice at Hotel Teatro di Pompeo in Rome. Very good location and also clean and reasonably priced.
mbaskin Posted December 12, 2009 #11 Share Posted December 12, 2009 How did you like your Croatia cruise on the Surf? We consider doing this on the Spirit in July 2010. Peter We had great weather and enjoyed the cruise very much. Highly recommend taking the tour to Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana. Also enjoyed walking around the other ports, particularly walking the Dubrovnik wall. To avoid the crowds, recommend doing the wall as early as you can. It is one of the better cruises we have taken in terms of overall experience. Marty

jpver Posted February 1, 2010 #13 Share Posted February 1, 2010 How did you like your Croatia cruise on the Surf? We consider doing this on the Spirit in July 2010. Peter In July 2008 I was on Windstar from Dubrovnik to Venice. Simply great. Small ports where big vessels don't comme. At anchor, platform open for swinning, kayak... :):):) 180° from ordinary!!!! Note Wind Spirit and Windstar are identical sister ships with 168 passengers, while Wind Surf has 303 and is the ex Club Med
jpver Posted February 1, 2010 #14 Share Posted February 1, 2010 Enterring in the morning Venice on board Windstar is UNFORGETTABLE! Stayed in Venice at Al Sole 3***. Walking distance from Bus station and cruise terminal, from rail station and Vaporetto bus boats! Cosy and absolutely honnest in price.
