Guest TropicOne Posted October 29, 2009 #8 Share Posted October 29, 2009 Hopefully this post will make everybody see the importance of tipping on a cruise ship. The salary structure does not apply to casino delaers only.
jetskier Posted October 29, 2009 #9 Share Posted October 29, 2009 Also the tips for the casino is pooled fleet-wide. In the past, they were pooled on just the ship. The downside to pooling tips is the slacker with no personality is getting tips that the bubbly fun dealer earned. Dave
pmang Posted October 29, 2009 #10 Share Posted October 29, 2009 AND that is $10 tax free... This is NOT true.... Any American working on a cruise ship has federal taxes taken out of their salary....

Well, I am no tax expert, but I don't think anyone earning $3,600 a year pays taxes. You would get back anything withheld for federal income tax. It is mind boggling that this is the wage if it is indeed $10 a DAY. Wow! I understand why the employees are so aggressive with selling drinks and such. Rare chasinraynbowz Posted October 29, 2009 #14 Share Posted October 29, 2009 It's a Lituanian employment agency and here is what they say: Once approved for training & further employment with Carnival, you will commence 30 day DEALER TRAINING SCHOOL in VILNIUS & will learn 2 major casino games - American Roulette & Blackjack and will have a guaranteed placement onboard Carnival, Princess, Holland America or Cunard vessels subject to successful completion of training, passing medical & receiving the US C1D Visa. Trainee will join CCCD on 5$ per day salary and half tips (average earnings 900-1200$ per months) and will receive a company paid ticket. At the end of 90 days probationary period every Trainee Dealer will be evaluated and if evaluation is successful, and the guest service is up to CCCD standards, trainee will move up to a full tips. Average earnings around 1500-1700$ or more depending on the vessel & itinerary. At the end of the contract trainee will be evaluated once again and should be returning for his/ hers second contract as a regular casino dealer with 10$ per day salary plus tips. If they make $1500 a month (in US $$), the conversion to the Lithuanian Litai is almost $3500 a month.

I only make about $1,800.00 per month and I have to pay extraordinarily high rent to boot, so in all honesty, this is actually quite a decent gig. On the surface, $10 per day plus tips seems a little outrageous, but once you see the monthly figures, it really isn't a bad deal...

Let me tell ya, if I was just out of college this wouldn't be such a bad deal. See the world, live on a ship, the pay isn't *that* bad when you look at it from the monthly perspective, especially when your food, rent, and work clothes are essentially paid for. LemurCat Posted October 29, 2009 #23 Share Posted October 29, 2009 That's kind of standard procedure in all casinos, Las Vegas, indian, etc, etc. You tip the dealers at the table games when you go to cash out or move to a new table. If you're a slots player, or prefer electronic roulette, poker, etc., there's essentially no one to tip. You're not really supposed to tip the pit bosses, ya know? :p
LemurCat Posted October 29, 2009 #24 Share Posted October 29, 2009 I dont play Blackjack on Carnival. But now I guess I better go thru casino and give out tips!! It's considered appropriate to tip a dealer if you're leaving a table. Proper ettiquette and all that. Ultimately, it's your choice. But it might be a good reason to stick to the electronic games if you're gratuity dis-inclined.
