GeriatricNurse Posted November 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2009 Apparantly, sometime in the near future, HAL will be offering specific non smoking staterooms on their ships! Has anyone else been made aware of this information?
madelinerose Posted November 4, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2009 The Cloud 9 Spa Cabins and Suites on the new Carnival Dream are non-smoking. I've heard nothing about HAL, but.....;)
sail7seas Posted November 4, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 4, 2009 Maybe the spa rooms on Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam? Did you read somewhere about soon to be non-smoking rooms?
jtl513 Posted November 4, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2009 Apparantly, sometime in the near future, HAL will be offering specific non smoking staterooms on their ships! Why? We've never had a cabin that smelled like stale smoke. :)
jtl513 Posted November 4, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 4, 2009 ... it might interest you that HAL did a questionnaire on our recent cruise asking if we'd support a completely non-smoking environment. From what I gathered from the staff I spoke with, the questionnaires were coming back very much on the "yes" side of the aisle (in other words, supporting a complete smoking ban). They've been doing that questionnaire for at least two years now, so I would presume they are still getting too many "No, I would not sail HAL again" to implement a ban. Especially in today's economy, they don't want to discourage any potential customers.

Especially in today's economy, they don't want to discourage any potential customers. I wonder why they're still wasting the paper on it. Seems to me they're going to get the same answers, so what's the point? That being said, like you, I've never smelled smoke in my cabin and the only time it is an issue is when you go near the casino. I just avoided the place (that helped tremendously with my budget anyway!) and had a great time elsewhere. So I really don't see the big deal. We did cruise once with a line that had a no-smoking policy (as well as a no-kids policy). Suffice it to say that line is no longer in business. I don't mind smoking in limited areas, but will NOT pay for a balcony I can't use!:(
callmedeb Posted November 4, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 4, 2009 This is a debate that has been going on for as long as there has been smoker and non-smokers. To each thier own. Best Idea is to maybe have smoking balconies on one side and non-smoking ones on the other. Aft will have to fight it out amongst themselves =)

Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted November 4, 2009 #10 Share Posted November 4, 2009 We're not cruiseline-loyal. We currently shop itineraries, price, and ship size, but once a real option comes in for reserving a balcony room and being certain that we can use the balcony and the room without suddenly being gassed--you bet we'll become loyal to that particular line. That line already exists. Celebrity does not permit smoking in either cabins or on balconies.
