Goldstein tells why space is available on Oasis

Bottom line RCI is doing with Oasis what they did with Freedom. They are holding back inventory to give crew time to adjust to the ship. Also they are not planning to reduce prices to fill the ship expecting that publicity will keep current pricing in place.

Time will tell if their strategy works but with Freedom, they only sold 75% of the space avaiable. I guess if they reach that level on Oasis, they will be happy.

So they won't be sailing with a full ship !!

Sounds a bit like BA with Terminal 5 and they're expecting problems !!

Why doesn't he admit the ship isn't selling and be done with it.

Because they did the same thing with the Freedom. Only sounds like BS to someone that has an agenda with the cruise line. I find it interesting that someone that has no interest in this ship seeks out the articles to reply.

Sounds good to me....more space per passenger for the first sailings....got ot love that:)

Makes complete sense if one thinks about it. Give the crew time to adapt to the new ship and keep the passengers happy. RCI is hedging on good reviews from the first couple of sailings.

That's an interesting article, thanks. On the same page is also a newer one which talks about the photo technology they'll be using in order to organize the photo-finding process. Great idea.

When we were on the Mariner Oct 2008 they had the new photo-finding process up and running. I didn't know about it until I went to go searching for our pictures and voila', they were all in one spot. They did have an area of photos where they were unable to identify the people but there weren't many. It's kind of amazing when you think about it.

Thanks for this info Gordon and as I suspected as well. I was on that inaugural Freedom sailing and it went off without a hitch and I personally saw no problems. The staff all told us that we were sailing at Voyager class capacity. That is why I did not hesitate to book the inaugural of Oasis as I was impressed with how smoothly that first sailing went.

Booking tonight online with an agency I use for May and the prices are actually the same or even lower than some of RCCL's other ships for the coming months. Suits me just fine. Live here in South Florida so driving half hour to the port and time to relax, relax, relax. Can't wait. My favorite line is Holland America but I want to experience this size ship at least once!

Given the mammoth number of cabins onboard, it actually does make more sense to sail with some of them empty than to cave on prices and have literally thousands ask for price-matching, which RCL offers after final payment, unlike most lines.

I don't know about other sailings but I can tell you there are exactly 13 staterooms available on royalcaribbean.com for my February sailing. If there are in fact 2700 total staterooms on board and none are being held by other agencies, that would be a 99.5% occupancy. That sounds pretty full to me.

Why can't you admit that

1- That the article is telling the truth.

2- This is a common practice.

3- You are either jealous or envious over not being able to afford going Oasis.

4- You just have no clue at all what you are typing about.

Free to post that in my opinion you stating that your "traveller IQ" is 133 is way, way overstated. 33 seems about right.

And that is being UBER generous.

IMHO.

It will be interesting to see if this marketing strategy works. It seems to me what they are saying is they are not selling out the ship (on purpose) and they anticipate (hope) that once word gets out (GMA), we the people will start flocking to the phones to book a cruise on this ship last minute and at current prices. Haha... good luck! I kind of think there is a little more to their lack of bookings than because they want it that way. The article says bookings are light into the first quarter of next year and IMO, if they don't see a surge of short term bookings by the end of January, then in February we may start seeing Oasis on the Tuesday (new bookings only) sale. I guess it's a win win either way, if the strategy doesn't work prices will go down but if the strategy does work then my stock will go up.

Why don't you goggle "can't fill oasis" and you'll find i'm not the only one talking about it.

" Royal Caribbean CEO Richard Fain told Wall Street analysts Tuesday during a conference call to discuss the company's third quarter earnings. "Neither I nor any prudent business person is predicting when that rebound will occur."
